Most people don’t care about environmental issues. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Environmental issues have become a major concern nowadays. Some argue that a majority is indifferent towards these challenges, while others reject it. I will analyse this matter critically and share my viewpoint in upcoming paragraphs.
A significant portion of the population neglects the imbroglio facing the planet, and prioritizes short term gains. To corroborate, despite knowing that plastic has been prohibited owing to the jeopardy it presents to nature and human health, many use it to save money and circumvent inconvenience. Similarly, in cities like Delhi, rampant deforestation is leading to poor air quality, but many still prefer living in low-rise buildings. Likewise, mindless littering is affecting the surroundings , and making things difficult for others, and animals and birds. To illustrate, disposing of plastic bags around without a second thought is a common urban malady, often consumed by oblivious animals that perish, or it enters the marine environment, menacing marine life.
However, there is still hope: a growing number have started actively participating in campaigns, webinars, educational programmes to spread enlightenment about the plight of the planet, and the need to embrace eco-friendly methods: recycling, and so forth. Moreover, volunteering in neighborhoods to collect plastic garbage, execute community clean up drives, and plant trees is becoming common. For example, “Seed” , an organisation led by youngsters, is tirelessly working in various cities of India, collecting plastic trash for recycling or incineration, and has recently achieved a tremendous feat: it was involved in planting 96,000 saplings in Delhi NCR region last year, raising hopes for climate mitigation.
In hindsight, undoubtedly some are apathetic towards the earth, but one cannot ignore the fact that many are making significant differences by adapting to eco-friendly methods, creating awareness and implementing strategies to surmount challenges.
