Photography can’t be trusted

  • advancement of editing tools and artificial intelligence, images can be manipulated to distort reality.
  • images taken out of context can mislead viewers, creating a false narrative

Photography is considered to be valuable sources of information.

  • Visual content can communicate complex situations quickly and emotionally, often more effectively than text alone.
  • Photographs also act as supporting evidence, making reports more engaging and easier to understand.

A segment of modern media consumers remains skeptical of news accompanied by images, arguing that such visuals are untrustworthy due to potential manipulation, while others argue these enhance understanding and engagement. I shall examine both the perspectives, and provide a plausible conclusion.

To embark upon the discussion, those harboring  the pessimistic view asserts that news portrayed  using photographs cannot be trusted as with the advancement of editing tools, and artificial intelligence, images can be manipulated to distort reality. Visuals presented without their original context have the potential to deceive the audience by establishing inaccurate narratives. Illustrating this point, a report recently heralded  by the Times of India highlighted erroneous circulation of footage of a significant aviation accident in Maximo as having occurred in Greenland. This misinformation precipitated widespread alarm, and a sense of crisis of trust, on media houses among the public.

Notwithstanding the former notion, images remain an invaluable source of information. Visual content has the ability to communicate complex situations quickly, and evoke emotional responses that text alone may fail to achieve. For instance, images from disaster zones, or conflict areas, can immediately convey the severity of a situation, making the news more impactful. Moreover, these tools often act as supporting evidence, enhancing the credibility of a report when sourced and verified properly. Likewise, they improve audience engagement; readers tend to clearly comprehend and retain visual information longer as compared to plain text.

To end the discussion, while photographs can be manipulated and misinterpreted, dismissing them entirely would be unreasonable. Instead, the focus should be on ethical journalism, proper verification, and judicious usage. When combined with accurate context, these devices remain an indispensable component of modern news reporting.

We can get knowledge from news, but some people think we can’t trust the journalist. Discuss and give your opinion. What do you think are the important qualities that a journalist should have?

Yes

  • There have been cases, although rare, infrequent, sporadic which have cast a doubt on the sanctity of this profession. Some people are stimulated by commercial compulsions: viewership and readership ratings
  • Political correctness has also had a corrupting influence on them. They are driven by the majority opinion. They avoid derision and indignation of the masses and their fraternity
  • influence of elite and powerful who reward them for the

No

  • Barring a few, most are devoted to this noble task, they never let any kind of inducement interfere with their professional objectives.
  • They risk not on their but also the lives of their family members
  • They are non-judgemental and present news as it is.

Qualities

  • Unbiased, impartial
  • Non-judgemental
  • Empathetic - must practice self censure to avoid presenting news  in such way that could cause social discord
  • Fear less
  • Incorruptible
  • Good communicator
  • Having knowledge of the subject, they are presenting reports about

Although many question the credibility of contemporary journalists, this notion is misplaced. I feel  that excluding exceptions, most professionals in this domain strictly adhere to the fundamental tenets of their occupation, and exercise fairness.

The  apprehension casting doubts on the integrity of correspondents is their craving for gaining visibility together with prosperity quickly. This persuades them to compromise with their principles and resort to either leaning towards political correctness, or distorting the information to create sensation and gain popularity. For instance, some reporters, especially the ones covering ‘the Gulf War’ were blamed for being highly biased, and presenting lopsided details despite knowing that the majority of their audience is  already well-informed about the causes and circumstances of the conflict.

Nevertheless, although the concerns highlighted are not unfounded, such reporters are anomalies; an overwhelming majority remain devoted to their professions, and practice transparency. They always quote all possible angles of an event, and present the news as it is without being judgemental. To exemplify, the award-winning press woman, Ms. Kassa was praised highly for investigative journalism in the famine plagued Ethiopia.

To be considered reliable, news professionals must be incorruptible, fearless, and defiant of  the compulsions - greed for money, and influence of the powerful - that coax them to go astray, and instead comply with the ethics of their trade. To corroborate, it  is easy to find dedicated media men, and women, worldover hopping jobs frequently simply because they refuse to yield to the owners of media houses, or the temptations to amass wealth.

To reiterate, notwithstanding the unscrupulous minority, a majority engaged in journalism remain committed to their work by upholding unbiased character, and demonstrating ethical behaviour. They remain insulated from all kinds of personal and professional influences, and never deviate from their path.

Proliferation of multimedia usage is causing  a profound shift in  reporting; reliance on photographs is seen in negative light, while a section  considers inclusion of this means as crucial for mass-media broadcasting. This essay shall critically examine these views and draw a plausible conclusion.

Proponents cite umpteen benefits of attaching photos with news reports: it allows readers to extract underlying information, for as they can visually correlate and comprehend the circumstances in which an event occurred. Additionally, authenticity of reports is established when news is complemented with related videos and images. To corroborate this, a survey carried out by The Times of India demonstrated that publications containing graphics witness acknowledgement from the audience as comprehensive and informative.

However, critics of this practice hold a negative view of such practice and vehemently oppose using any distraction while news reporting as it misleads users: in some extreme cases, paint a picture which at times is exaggerated. For instance, an article published by a prominent journalist misquoting the make and model of an accident-ridden aircraft led to a swatches of doctored images and AI-generated videos claiming origination of this report, leading to major criticism of the aircraft manufacturer and eroding millions in stock prices and invaluable trust of consumers.

Additionally, avid newspaper readers blame the overuse and abuse of snapshots as a tool to artificially increase the number of pages; through this, agencies can charge exorbitant prices per publication, dodging the main objective. This phenomenon furthered the degrading quality of journalism as it serves none but the advertisers.

Overall, although reports laden with images helps one to grasp the context, it should not be seen as a critical requirement of news as it can be counterproductive in certain  cases and unnecessarily occupy space and attention.

We can get knowledge from news, but some people think we can’t trust the journalist. Discuss and give your opinion. What do you think are the important qualities that a journalist should have?

In the modern era, news plays a major role in spreading information, but some believe that trusting journalists is not possible, while others dissent. This essay will discuss both views and highlight essential qualities that news reporters are expected to demonstrate.

There are valid reasons for people doubting  reporters. In some cases, media houses prioritize viewership and profit over accuracy, leading to distorted reporting. Additionally, some news professionals may be driven by political, or corporate interests, resulting in biased reporting. The rise of misinformation, especially in the digital era, has  further damaged the credibility of journalism, making it difficult for the general public to distinguish between factual and misleading news.

However, these allegations are not true in a majority of cases, for several newsmen and women have been complying with the tenets of ethical reporting, wherein they tend to delve deeper into any event and investigate exhaustively before presenting news to the general populace, and never compromise with their principles. This can be clearly evidenced by constant job switching by reputed correspondents who are shown the door by the media owners for not surrendering to their whims.

An ideal journalist should be akin to being closely connected to the fundamentals of this strategically sensitive profession to uphold credibility: accountability for their work and willingness to correct their mistakes. For instance, while reporting during Covid, pandemic  2020, many renowned newspersons from the New York Times, admitting citing unsolicited numbers of deaths due to infection, issued not only apologies but also republished the whole report.

In my opinion, although there are legitimate concerns about the trustworthiness of newspersons, most remain committed to the principles such as accuracy, honesty, accountability and integrity, except a few non-adhering professionals falling prey to temptation of fame and fortune.

Why Newspaper

  • Authenticated
  • Comprehensive news
  • Printed words have the ability to be retained longer

Why other  media

  • Up to date - minute by minute information
  • Portability - better than carrying clumsy newspapers
  • Graphical content - videos and photos - making it easier to grab news without paying attention to the task of reading

The advent of the digital era has laid multiple sources of gaining updates about occurrences from world over. While many still commit their allegiance to the newspaper, while some are more keen about using other mediums. This essay will analyze this suggestion and emanate a justified conclusion whether the newspaper is better comparatively to other sources.

Newspapers have endured their reputation as the most reliable source of delivering daily news. The reports presented in this tool are accurate and authenticated, always verified from genuine sources; the journalists and reporters involved in gathering inputs are quite professionally trained, have investigative approach, and are generally unbiased, and thus, present the information that illustrates the true picture of any event rather than acting partisan.
Moreover, traditionally, printed words enjoy greater appeal than what is accessed on the screen. Since childhood, one is accustomed to reading books and magazines, and they develop an affinity to these mediums, by virtue of the fact that printed words have the ability to get permanently etched in the minds of readers. To illustrate, many accept that they love reading paper versions of the Washington Post, and New York Times, due to being able to remember  each word of reports thoroughly for long.
However, the other school of thought, especially the younger generation, depend on alternate means such as the internet, social media and radio etc., for this means can provide them minute by minute updates. For example, platforms like twitter, facebook and news portals, and TV-based media channels cover current events as they are happening, often with videos.

In conclusion, I feel that even though other ways of getting informed offer speed, newspapers will remain the best medium of delivering news by virtue of being controlled by genuine sources and professionals.

The government should control the amount of violence in films and on television in order to decrease the violent crimes in society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The government should control the amount of violence in films and on television in order to decrease the violent crimes in society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is commonly perceived that policy makers should restrict content, portraying brutality, being shown on audio-visual media, to stem unlawful acts of violent nature. I partly concur with this notion, and will be elucidating my stand in the following paragraphs.

To start with, television and motion pictures enjoy a profound influence on society,  and the way illegal acts exhibiting savagery are glamorized, viewers, especially juveniles,  try to emulate whatever they see on the screen. They consider such acts being taken as normal, and in the process, expose themselves, and others harmful consequences.   To exemplify, in 2010, a student of Delhi Public School, Bhopal, killed a classmate, and during the police investigation, the child said that he was performing an act from a DXY movie where the actor killed the negative character by pushing them from a 21st floor building for a stunt.

However, violent crimes cannot be controlled just by monitoring entertainment media, there are a myriad of other factors which play an important role such as poverty, mental-health issues, unemployment, well-being, lifestyle, locality, and most importantly,  lack of education. In most cases, it has been observed that those threatened by society, suffering from psychological issues, get involved in criminal endeavors that are brutal in nature. Curtailing such content on visual media will instead make society oblivious of such incidence of law breaking, and make it vulnerable to dire outcomes.

To conclude, restricting the television and movies access may help reduce crime and violence to some extent, but I think this is unlikely to completely eliminate criminal undertaking aimed at harming others unless policymakers take prudent steps like educating society, rendering social security, employment, which will play a major catalyst in mitigating such a malady.

Too much attention is given to headline-grabbing disasters like earthquakes and floods. Government should concentrate their resources on educating people about the risk they face nearer to home, which can cost far more lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion.

Too much attention is given to headline-grabbing disasters like earthquakes and floods. Government should concentrate their resources on educating people about the risk they face nearer to home, which can cost far more lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion.

A debate has ensued in varied sections of society whether policy makers should pay attention towards common perils such as crimes, road accidents, domestic violence, and so on, jeopardizing human life rather than prioritizing natural calamities. Some accept it, while others reject it. I will critically scrutinize this notion and present my viewpoint in the following paragraphs.

To start with, many are not enlightened about the menace, in myriad forms, that is ubiquitous,  and is threatening public safety, but can save themselves if they are informed about it well. For example, rash driving is one of the common hazards causing numerous deaths due reckless driving, and yet no one cares about such irresponsible behaviour. Similarly, trifle crimes are increasing such as chain snatching, assault, and theft, to name a few, posing a question mark on the well-propagated congenial social environment. To corroborate, Brazil  tops, as per the recently released reports, in the crime rate Index, where the population barely knows about their rights, resulting in a thirty five percent  surge  in crimes every year. Apart from that, preparing the populace for first aid, and  CPR is more important than focusing on disasters which happen once in a blue moon; this will help save millions of lives lost due to lack of fundamental emergency aids.

Nevertheless, those skeptical about this idea advocate that policy makers should be prompt in educating people about the deadly disasters. For example, earthquakes, by virtue of striking unannounced, have the capacity to take millions of lives and destroy property worth billions, making it imperative to invest resources: emergency funds, housing, medical treatments, to help minimise the damage. They also suggest this can assist in mitigating casualties, for the populace residing in highly vulnerable areas will be able to embrace safeguards in case some natural event occurs.

To recapitulate, I concur with this notion and opine that greater emphasis should be placed on educating the public about more frequent risk as they claim more lives, for which there is no record though naturally occurring catastrophes should not also be overlooked.

  3. Graphical content - videos and photos - making it easier to grab news without paying attention to the task of reading

Many are still wedded to the idea of accessing newspapers to inform themselves,  but the other section leans in the favor of multiple digital ways to get updates. This essay shall analyze this matter and emanate its inclination towards the former view.

Newspapers have always been considered as the most reliable source of getting daily news. There is still a large part of society that believes that this medium is the most authentic and verified source by virtue of every information being provided is investigated profoundly and without bias since those presenting reports are qualified professionals and duly comply with principles of journalism without compromises, whereas social media and other digital apps are mostly focused on generating TRPs. For example many TV channels telecast news that deliver few productive messages but only generate their channel value.

Additionally, undeniably, the printed word has a greater  impact and when propensity to access it has been ingrained since childhood through schooling,  the majority, especially the older generation, is likely to stick to reading the paper-based material. For example, the young subscribers of the popular newspapers such as New York Times still prefer to buy hard copies; they find accessing these as a better way of gaining knowledge.

However, others think differently and feel that the digital way of learning about incidents is effortless as it provides real time updates and requires less time to gain information. For example, television and the internet fueled web portals and social media provide coverage of events as they are taking place.

In hindsight, both ways have their own significance: where one enjoys an enduring trust, the other tools such a modern technology-driven ones render speed to the process of affording information about occurrences around the world.

Some say that reading newspapers and watching TV news is a waste of time, because it has no direct connection with people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Agree

  • Most media focuses on celebrities, movies, sports, which does not have a relevance

  • Some only present agenda that have limited significance for everyday life

Disagree

  • Announcing government policies,

  • Informing about economic trends

    • Price rise, costs, and benefits

  • business trends

  • Inform employment patterns

  • Happenings in other parts of the world that have a profound impact on business, employment  and well being

  • Enlightening about weather and calamities

  • Caution people about crime and social unrest

Although it is commonly perceived that engaging with newspapers and television for news is wasteful endeavour, I strongly detest it, for there is only one method that can help one stay up-to-date with current affairs, something critical in the modern world.

Those harbouring this belief profess that the contemporary media has taken up the role of acting as the publicity outlet for prosperous business houses and powerful political outfits. They only focus on televising and heralding news about conventions, meetings, and conferences, among others, which fails to provide any useful input to the majority.

Nevertheless, this notion would be of the great consequence if it were true: the events involving business deliberations and political discussions, propagated through television programs and newspapers are keenly/ eagerly/ enthusiastically followed by millions because this can inform them about the potential opportunities for employment and business being created by successful conclusion of such events. To corroborate, giant media publications and media companies extensively covered the convention between the UK government and businesses, in 2021, that marked an end to restrictive policies enacted during pandemic, resulting in employees returning to their offices and businesses opening from the very next day.

Similarly, this information channel has always played a pivotal role in bringing updates about pandemics, calamities, and other jeopardizing conditions, to caution their audiences about probable hazards facing them, in turn preparing them to embrace precautions. For instance, a warning about tsunami aired by BBC in Osaka, in May 2025, saved almost one million lives as residents of coastal areas evacuated quickly.

In hindsight, all forms of media are doing a great service to society by enlightening people about various developments and approaching perils, raising hopes and saving lives in the process, turning this allegation into irrelevant.

Introduction 1: Newspapers and television have become a primary source of informing the general populace about the happenings around the world, but some are critical about this, and suggest that such engagement amounts to squandering time, for this activity has little significance in routine life. However, I fail to concur with this notion in absolute terms since this is the only way to stay up-to-date about the surroundings that can profoundly impact people. Introduction 2: This is a common perception that engaging with newspapers and television for news amounts to squandering of invaluable time, for such engagement is irrelevant for daily life, but this notion can be challenged on several grounds. The following paragraphs shall critically analyse this matter, and share a plausible conclusion. Introduction 3:

Publishing detailed information about crimes in newspapers or on television can have dangerous consequences and should therefore be restricted. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The great public discourse of contemporary times is aligned with a view whether reporting about antisocial endeavors that has detrimental effects on society, should be controlled, or not. I partially agree with the proposal and shall discuss in the following paragraphs.

To start with, a lobby strongly asserts that showcasing savagery via media can cause fear among individuals, especially youngsters. This is to say, when children witness blood, gore, and so on, they become frightened and fear that they might meet the same end; as a result, they avoid interacting with the outer world, turning timid, feeling threatened, and eventually, lead a life in desolation . To corroborate, a recent study conducted by a group of child behaviorists revealed that juveniles watching programs about unlawful undertakings during their childhood on television, grow up as adults who circumvent communicating with others, and some also feel unsafe within the confines of their own homes when they are alone.

Having said that, such broadcasts should not be curtailed since there could be evidence that might catch the attention of the viewers, or readers, and aid in resolving crimes. In other words, the television could show images of the perpetrators, who could be on the run, or at large, could be identified, and reported to the police. For example, in Japan, during the morning news, details of incidence of law breaking and culprits are transmitted over the television and social media, which aids in early identification of the criminals.

In conclusion, considering the aforementioned views,  I believe although it is virtuous to draw a line about what should be presented, a complete embargo should not be imposed: these help in  mitigating and preventing incidents of deviant nature.

News editors decide what to broadcast on television and what to print in newspapers. What factors do you think influence these decisions? Do we become used to bad news? Would it be better if more good news was reported? Discuss.

News editors decide what to broadcast on television and what to print in newspapers. What factors do you think influence these decisions? Do we become used to bad news? Would it be better if more good news was reported? Discuss.

The eminence of news editors has risen dramatically, so much so that the inclusion and exclusion of news from the various mediums of reporting depends on their discretion. This propensity is impacting the audience in multiple ways, mostly in undesirable ways. Nevertheless, reporting more good news is unlikely to help turn the situation around.

Rising commercial pressures has deviated media houses from their true objective of bringing honest reports to the masses, and are competing to expand their clout among masses. Thus, they have resorted to presenting sensationalised news to raise viewership and readership, so that they get more and more followers. This kind of reporting has gradually helped develop an appetite among people for fateful news: they open the newspapers and switch on the television sets to know about only unpleasant happenings.

This has prompted many to propose incorporating more reports that represent pleasant happenings and events. It will go a long way, as per them, to lift the dipping public moods and their spirits. Most have become hopeless about the conditions prevalent in the society, and this is all due to irresponsible conduct of those heading newspapers and television channels, but positive reporting will gradually change the things.

Nonetheless, many are skeptical about the former suggestion, and they feel such moves may prove to be futile and instead predispose people to hazards and unwarranted situations. Prioritizing printing and  telecasting cheerful events or occurrences may make many oblivious to the lurking dangers around them, making them vulnerable to perils which could also prove to be life threatening.

Overall, the founding principle of any news reporting agency is to act honestly and impartially, and not surrender to any temptation or coercion. They must bring news as it is and let the audience judge its nature.

Some people think that newspapers are the best way to learn about current events. However, others believe that they can learn news better through other media. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Some uphold the notion that newspapers are the best medium to stay up-to-date with current affairs around the globe, while some profess that there are other methods that are more convenient. This essay shall delve deeper on this matter and come up with a plausible conclusion. An army of people proposes that the traditional method of gaining knowledge of the happenings world over are irreplaceable; these are considered to be accurate since most of the people engaged in presenting reports in this tool are devoted and unbiased professionals and committed to the task of ethically researching and presenting facts, convincing many that the learnings they find in this method are genuine. Besides this, several experts lean for this way of informing themselves since it does not require any special intervention to access news. For example, these can also be read in the areas where there is absence of electricity and network. Nearly half of the global population residing in remote areas depend on this paper-based tool of enlightenment about occurrences in any domain. However, some contest that electronic mediums are more suitable; one does not need to wait for the next morning to know about events taking place the previous day. At times, there is very little information provided in the newspapers due to the limitations of pages, and words, for an article published; therefore, many have turned to other media such as television channels, or their personal devices, to gain up-to-date in-depth inputs about anything. To conclude, in my opinion, traditional methods of disseminating news, despite lacking facilities that modern tools can offer, boast of enjoying unswerving trust of audiences due to well-researched reports being presented in this medium.

In the future, nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

By virtue of advancement of technological tools and applications and their proliferation in the realm of disseminating information, some believe that the prophecy of paper-based mediums may lose out to soft versions due to comfortability, and disappear. This essay shall profoundly analyze this presupposition and emanate a plausible conclusion.

The ever-growing technology has changed many things around, it has made human work effortless and easier to access, altering the way of collecting information, the younger generation, especially,  has embraced this advancement, making them less familiar with the use of newspapers, or books printed on paper. With the internet being handy, most prefer using their smartphones, or other devices that enable them to update themselves with knowledge about various topics and occurrences, around the world, quickly and without parting with a dime. This phenomenon is expected to proliferate in coming years, making the conventional means of gaining knowledge obsolete,  and eventually, taking them out of favor. Moreover, with environmental consciousness becoming more and more prominent,  it is anticipated that future generations will opt for soft copies and shun the conventional means.

However, this notion is not widely accepted; many believe that there will still be enthusiasts who will remain wedded to access physical copies of newspapers and books in an attempt to get the feel of pleasure by accessing paper-based modes and also their smell. Moreover,  many are likely to stay connected to these age-old tools by using these as a part of leisure activity, in order to gain a healthy distraction from the technology-driven world.

To conclude, I feel that there is a great probability of modern means overwhelming the old ones, and becoming a dominant method of access information, but the traditional ways will still endure due to some dedicated followers of the latter.

The government should control the amount of violence in films and on television in order to decrease the violent crimes in society

The incrementing incidence of murderous antisocial acts has provoked that the content depicting such activities should be prohibited in various forms of media. I completely fail to subscribe to this suggestion and shall elucidate my stand in the following paragraphs.

To start with, those advocating for this policy profess that the current upsurge in unlawful incidents showcasing brutality finds its inspiration in films and programs being presented on television. The violence in such mediums is portrayed in a highly glamorized form, and those partaking in such undertakings are depicted as performing heroic deeds. Consequently, the audience, especially the youngsters and those with perverted mindsets are likely to emulate such precedents. To corroborate, nearly fifteen percent of juveniles injuring themselves or their peers, in the USA, every year is attributed to WWE since a majority of youngsters mimic the acts of professional wrestlers, during quarrels, and hurt themselves in the process.

However, those skeptical  are unconvinced by the rationale presented in support of this suggestion; as per them, criminal activities of brutal nature have plagued humans ever since they manifested on this planet, while the electronic entertainment tools appeared only about a century ago. Moreover, most of the presentations on all audio and visual mediums simply reflect what is happening in the surroundings by presenting it in the form of drama. Likewise, the audience, regardless of its age, is quite smart in differentiating between real and reel life, seldom blurs the boundaries between the two, and uses modern audio-visual content to simply entertain themselves instead of apeing  it.

In hindsight, a few sporadic incidents of murderous felonies cannot represent the aspirations of the majority because portrayal  for entertainment and real world events have no parallels or similarities. Thus, this view cannot be supported.

Nowadays newspapers publish information about private lives of individuals. Some people think the government should maintain certain control over the information that gets published, while others disagree. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Write at least 250 words

Media is a source for humongous information that also provides access to personal lives. Some commentators perceive this as infringement, and call for stern measures to regulate such forays, while others think differently.

There is overwhelming support for free press, even if they sometimes encroach private spaces of celebrated individuals who have gained mileage due to colossal fan-following. It is thus, the privilege of those, idolizing such personalities, to know how the latter behave behind their veil of public persona. It has been often experienced that the philanthropic facade is used by some as a pretext to gain popularity, but behind the scenes they rarely have anything to do anything with altruism.

Such endeavors, informing about private persona of known figures like sport professionals, often impact the populace favorably, inspiring them to embrace the precedents of hard work invested by some and strive to attain pinnacle. A recent story that inspired many, for example, how a young girl, hailing from a destitute family, despite all hindrances of the gender-based stereotypes, continued to focus on her studies and became the first women to graduate from an Indian village, persuaded umpteen families to follow the suit.

However, such invasion is often derided, evooking a call for stringent control on what can be made public: it has detrimental implications on those whose personal lives become public overnight, creating unwarranted pressure and irrefutable reputational damage. Some also get negatively inspired by certain material being published establishing wrong precedents for the youth if their idols are engaged in socially unacceptable behavior.

Overall, news has a massive impact on public pysche,  and thus, it is pertinent for certain controls to be applied on the information being heralded, as personal lives of others can become a benchmark: both positively and negatively.

In the future, nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Digital technology is becoming more advanced in concurrent times, and some anticipate that in the coming days, a majority will shift their reading habits from printed books and newspapers to the virtual platforms. The forthcoming paragraphs shall analyze this notion and share a plausible conclusion.

To start with, some believe that the way people are becoming busier in their daily routines, they are likely to embrace the soft copies instead of stepping out of their comfort zones to procure printed versions already available over the internet, and could be accessed with their single click absolutely free. Consequently, such circumstances will promote online versions of every content, and paper-based material will become a history.

Additionally, few will be keen to bear the burden of carrying heavy books of different  subjects and tedious oversized newspapers when they can read everything on their compact devices; it has been seen university students are already shifting from conventional to the electronic modes - they dread carrying tonnes of books to serve different purposes.

However, the advocates of traditional means of gaining knowledge and apprising about happening around the world are still hopeful that a  majority will remain passionate about reading the printed versions: they will continue using the conventional means as a quality pastime helping them escape the mundane surroundings created by overwhelming presence of technology in every walk of their life. Similarly, there will still be some certain areas that will be out of bounds for technology and network and one will still have to rely on these older means.

Overall, I completely concur that people will move towards the digital era, there has been a decisive shift in the habits of every individual, especially in terms of reading the content online as compared to the printed materials.

Nowadays most information is available online, whereas in the past knowledge used to be stored in books and on paper. Do you think the advantages of this situation outweigh its disadvantages?

Nowadays, knowledge about any subject and topic can be accessed from the websites instead of following the traditional practice of reading books. This new trend offers both benefits and drawbacks.

To start with, the availability of information on the internet has made it easier for people to get inputs about any subject, topic and area of interest without needing to carry heavy books since a web portal can store millions of books in a small hard disc. Besides this, one does not need to go to the shop to buy separate books, or visit libraries to borrow them, they can now sit at their homes or in their offices and obtain any amount of data as per their desire, without paying huge amounts of money.

Additionally,  this new arrangement has brought in a major benefit for the environment. As internet based storage does not need any paper for printing, the need to cut down trees has reduced considerably, which is helping prevent deforestation. For example, many environmental studies carried out over the period of twenty years from 2000 show that clearing of the green cover has phenomenally slowed down due to demand for paper declining.

However, storing information about everything online and obtaining it from this source has a couple of major failings. The data is many times prone to hacking and manipulation, which can make it unreliable and users can be misled unless they are cautious. Moreover, this source of information is dependent on electricity and the network, and thus if both go missing people cannot get any information.

Overall, I firmly believe that even though the benefits of this evolution exceed its pitfalls, the conventional practice of writing and accessing books must not be abandoned to avoid any problems in case of any mishap.

Some people think that newspapers are the best way to learn about current events. However, others believe that they can learn news better through other media.

Some people think that newspapers are the best way to learn about current events

There has been an eternal debate doing rounds to decide as to which medium of informing the masses about contemporary issues surrounding them. While a school of thought asserts that newspapers happen to be the most formidable means of obtaining information about the tropical happenings, others favour alternative sources.

On the one hand, there is tremendous following for the newspapers as this medium is hailed as a platform that delivers authentic information that is duly verified by a competent editorial team for its genuineness. Each detail is substantiated from reliable resources to confirm its validity, and only after a thorough brainstorming it is approved for reporting. Moreover, it has also been seen that editors act extremely responsibly and many a times tend to censor the details that are incendiary and have a potential to galvanize social discord and unrest.

Similarly, this conventional mode is admired for its all-embracing detailing and analysis. The well-versed and committed journalists spend time in covering an event from all possible angles and sometimes even delve deeper to derive exhaustive facts about an occurrence, affording readers a chance to inform themselves comprehensively and also appreciate the gravity of matter more clearly.

On the other hand, a lobby vehemently vouches for the other technology-fuel options such as television, internet and social media. Their opinion is founded on the virtue of speed that these mediums render. Undeniably, one cannot discount the instant updates these modern means can bring to a news hungry audience effortlessly and virtually free of cost.

Overall, after assessing both sides of the coin I feel that, albeit the alternative mediums have swiftness and cost effectiveness to their advantage, newspapers, the conventional mode, shall always remain the most keenly followed way of enlightening oneself about current happenings.

Many people feel that media coverage has been becoming increasingly biased today. Why is this? What can be done to fix this problem?

Many people feel that media coverage has been becoming increasingly biased today.

 Why is this?

What can be done to fix this problem?

Reasons for media getting corrupted

Many people feel that media coverage has been becoming increasingly biased today

  • Craving for fame and fortune, which can only be achieved by favoring affluent and powerful

  • Jumping into the bandwagon and only taking up those issues that are pursued profoundly by a greater proportion of media fraternity

  • A desire for high viewership and readership since media is a big business today

Methods to overcome

  • Greater monitoring by the state to ensure that media does not cross the limits of fairness

  • Severe penalties should be installed for the offenders - those misreporting or distorting facts

  • People should boycott such media houses

Mediums of mass communication are seen exercising partisanship quite blatantly today. This can be attributed to several causes, but nonetheless media houses can be forced to fall in line by adopting certain prudent steps.

The  most prominent reason driving this propensity among media professionals is a strong and overwhelming craving for fame and fortune that can only be attained by gaining favors from the affluent and powerful people. To see this through, those engaged in this occupation tend to conceal certain facts and distort others to benefit their rich acquaintances. Moreover, unlike in the past, media is a big business today  and is owned by corporate giants and rich industrialists, making it natural for those associated with such organizations, to comply with the instructions given by their owners to only present the information that can help yield colossal profits, even if one has to keep certain diverse dimensions obscure from the public.

To corroborate, a study carried out by media mogul  Dr. Harmeet Singh concluded that most media professionals felt helpless and frustrated because of the compulsion of modern times that were reflected in a fight for survival and earning riches, and showing loyalty to their employers, which meant abandoning morality and basic tenets.

Nonetheless, this appalling  trend can be easily countered by prohibiting the entry of business houses; individuals influenced by political, communal, religious and social affiliations; and those who have a strong drive to earn and expand their monetary resources. Additionally, the public should also snub and stop following such agencies, so that these can be forced to behave responsibly.

Overall, the lopsidedness of establishments engaged in mass media is quite evident from their actions and can be considered plausible. Therefore, adopting a zero tolerance attitude to curtail this practice is highly recommended.
