Crime is a problem all over the world. Some believe that crime prevention will make no difference, others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion

In contemporary times, antisocial endeavors  have become a major concern, and some profess that there is no measure that can mitigate these, while others vehemently reject this notion, and are quite optimistic about prudent efforts indeed making  a difference. In this essay, I shall examine both perspectives, and render a plausible conclusion.

To start with, a school of thought argues that strategies aimed at alleviating incidence of infringements have little impact since these are often driven by deep-rooted social and economic problems. Factors: poverty, unemployment, lack of education, and social inequality, push individuals toward deviant ways. Moreover, despite governments introducing  strict laws or increasing police presence, these underlying causes may still lead people to commit crimes. For instance, in many cities around the world, the incidents of antisocial undertakings remain high in spite of heavy policing and surveillance systems. Consequently, no policies can fully solve the problem until fundamental reasons fueling illegal undertakings are addressed.

Nevertheless, methodology  espoused to curtail illegal endeavors can go a long way. Measures: improved law enforcement, better street lighting, security cameras, and community policing could discourage potential offenders. These factors act as deterrents, by virtue of generating psychological impact: law breakers know that there is a higher risk of being caught, and they are less likely to break laws. A recent survey conducted in The USA revealed that there was a slump of nearly sixty percent in unlawful acts, by virtue of implementation of strict and stringent security measures.

In nutshell, there is a notorious saying “Gems and crime are equivalent”: antisocial endeavors cannot be eradicated completely, but prevented. Thus, strategies deployed to control illegal undertakings could still make a meaningful impact if implemented effectively. The intent is to render a safe social environment to citizens; thus, effort must continue.

In contemporary society, it is increasingly evident that a significant number of offenders re-engage in criminal activities after completing their initial sentence. This essay will examine the underlying causes of this growing trend, and suggest effective strategies to reduce reoffending.

To embark upon the key factor behind this phenomenon, offenders often commit more crime due to lack of rehabilitation in prisons. Many prisons focus only on punishment rather than improving their behaviour. As a result, they do not learn any additional skills, and when they return to society with the same mindset with which they entered.

Moreover, the stigma of having a criminal record reduces the chance of getting a job in this swiftly changing world. When an individual is unable to earn an honest living, they may choose to return to illegal activities for survival. Another reason is that prisons often expose first time offenders to hardened criminals, which can increase their likelihood of committing more serious crime after release.

Reformists believe that several measures could be embraced to mitigate recidivism. The government should introduce proper rehabilitation programs, including education, vocational training, and psychological counselling. These regimes could help offenders reintegrate into society by giving them practical skills, and emotional support. Apart from that, lawmakers must create employment opportunities specifically for former prisoners, such as partnerships with companies willing to hire them. Finally, improving the overall prison environment by separating non-violent offenders from dangerous criminals, could help prevent negative influences that contribute to reoffendering.

In the nutshell, repeated crimes occur mainly due to poor maintenance in prison, and limited opportunities after release. By offering skill-based training, mental support, and fair employment options, societies can significantly reduce the number of offenders who return to criminal activity.

Crime is a problem all over the world. Some believe that crime prevention will make no difference, others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion

Crime remains a persistent issue across the globe, and there is an ongoing debate about whether mechanisms embraced to quell unlawful endeavors can help: while some believe that these make little difference, others exhibit optimism. This essay shall delve deeper into both perspectives and draw a plausible conclusion.

Those critical of policies deployed to curtail incidence of antisocial acts argue that deviant behaviour is deeply rooted in human nature and social inequalities, and claim that factors: poverty, unemployment, and lack of education push individuals to commit infringements, and these issues cannot be solved easily through preventive measures alone. To corroborate, a survey related to the background of prisoners reveals that 70 percent of convicts were uneducated, socially and financially not well off, and were earlier involved in multiple petty crimes, and were likely to re-engage in their deviant ways after serving their terms.

Moreover, some unlawful elements may continue their activities regardless of strict laws or security systems, by virtue of fostering a penchant for deviant ways since these bought them easy money and notoriety. For example, even in countries with advanced policing and surveillance, many are unlikely to relinquish their unlawful ways of life.

However, advocates of this policy strongly believe that preventative methods  play a significant role in reforming criminal behaviour through rehabilitation, asserting that well-implemented measures such as increased police visibility, advanced security systems, and community-based initiatives can act as solid deterrents. In addition, social interventions like skill development, employment opportunities, and so forth, can tackle the underlying causes of crime, helping mitigate antisocial undertakings.

In conclusion, although some doubt the efficacy of crime prevention, it is a vital tool in maintaining public safety. When supported by broader socio-economic reforms, preventive strategies can significantly contribute to a safer and more stable society.

Parents should be held legally responsible for their children’s acts. What is your opinion? Support it with examples from your experience.

In some countries, it is believed that crime among young people is increasing. What do you think are the reasons for this trend? What types of punishment or approaches are most suitable for young offenders?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

In several nations, it is widely argued that crime among young people is rising. This trend can be attributed to a combination of social, technological, and familial factors. To address this issue effectively, rehabilitation, rather than harsh punishment, is the most appropriate approach for young offenders.

One major reason for the spurt in youth crime is the weakening of family supervision. In several households, both parents work long hours, leaving young individuals without adequate guidance or emotional support. Consequently, they seek belonging in peer groups that may encourage risky or illegal behaviour to get their acknowledgement. Likewise, another contributing factor is the influence of social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, where violent or antisocial content can sometimes be glamorised. Easy access to such material  may desensitise young minds and normalise aggressive conduct. Additionally, economic inequality and limited educational, or employment, opportunities could persuade  disadvantaged youth towards theft, drug-related offences, or gang involvement.

The panacea for surmounting this complication lies not in punitive measures alone. Young people are still developing cognitively and emotionally; therefore, rehabilitation programs are more suitable. Community service, counselling, mentorship schemes, and vocational training can help offenders become  responsible and foster practical skills. For example, in countries like Norway, the justice system emphasises reform and reintegration rather than strict imprisonment; as a result, unlawful undertakings involving the youth have declined considerably. Similarly, schools can also be instrumental in preventing young minds from going astray by incorporating life-skills education and conflict-resolution training into their curriculum.

In conclusion, rising youth crime is largely influenced by family neglect, media exposure, and socioeconomic challenges. However, instead of resorting to retribution, societies should prioritise supportive and rehabilitative measures that guide the upcoming generation to grow up as lawful citizens.

Crime is a problem all over the world. Some believe that crime prevention will make no difference, others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Illegal endeavors have always remained a major concern globally, and some see  little hope in measures meant to halt these, while others are quite optimistic in these preventive policies. This essay will discuss both notions profoundly, and conclude with my opinion.

Some social behaviorists believe that deterrents aimed at eradicating unlawful undertaking are bound to fail. They argue that, despite the presence of laws and policies, infringements continue to rise with each passing day, for these stem from social and psychological factors that cannot be addressed only by making stringent laws. Unless social and economic disparities are diluted, it is going to be impossible to prevent perpetrators from resorting to deviant ways.

On the other hand, another section of society argues that a strong legal framework, including stringent punitive provision, acts as a powerful tool to dissuade antisocial undertakings, discouraging individuals from engaging in instances of breaking laws, out of the fear of punishment. When preventative methods, like  increased surveillance, are clearly defined and consistently enforced, potential offenders are more likely to think twice before committing illegal acts: none are keen to be taken away from active life, or be slapped with a capital punishment, often awarded in extreme cases. To corroborate, the UAE follows a zero tolerance policy for thwarting unlawful activities, and awards strictest penalties; consequently, this country has the lowest rate of crimes.

In conclusion, while some believe that criminal activities will continue to plague society in spite of steps taken to curtail these, I strongly support the opposing view because there have been several instances, wherein tools used to mitigate incidence of crime have proven their worth: these instill a sense of fear of consequences among potential offenders,  and contribute to the smooth functioning of society.

Many offenders commit more crimes after serving the first punishments. Why is this happening and what measures can be taken to tackle these problems?

Many offenders commit more crimes after serving the first punishments. Why is this happening and what measures can be taken to tackle these problems?

The world is witnessing an unusual behaviour where those convicted for the first time tend to repeat their deviant behavior upon completing their first sentence. This essay will share a few reasons for this propensity, and suggest some viable solution to overcome this predicament.

To start with, a lobby strongly asserts that the first retribution may not be severe enough to make the culprit realise the intensity of the wrongdoing. In other words, many serious crimes: murder, assault and many more, are handed a nominal punishment: doing community service. This motivates antisocial elements to indulge into more unlawful activities since they know that there will be a petty punishment for major offence. For example, a recent survey revealed that many first time law breakers seldom shy away from partaking in endeavors aimed at infringing laws since they know that they would be let off with a light penalty, which they can easily fulfill.

Having said that, there are a number of solutions available at hand. The lawmakers should resort to strict punitive measures to dissuade criminals, thereby  inciting a fear that illegal actions will fetch serious consequences every time they engage in any unlawful undertakings. Moreover, the government should endeavor to train such people in alternative trades so as to allow them to join the mainstream after their first sentence. This will help effectively  disengage them from their deviant ways, provide them employment and meaning to life, and keep them away from hideous thoughts.

In conclusion, the causes for repetitive unlawful behavior is absence of strict punishment for, which motivates the first-timers to continue with antisocial means, but the remedies are imposing stringent laws to make them understand the gravity of their misdemeanors, and policy makers could create jobs to keep them busy and employed.

In many countries today, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more and more popular. Why do you think these books and TV shows are popular? What is your opinion of crime fiction and TV crime dramas?

Fiction and TV dramas of crime genre have witnessed a surge in popularity, largely due to their suspenseful storytelling and insight into human psychology. This yearning stems from numerous causes, but it offers a chance to escape and explore thrilling mysteries, and understanding complex, often flawed characters.

Crime  fiction draws people in with its suspenseful storylines and complex plots. Readers and viewers enjoy piecing together clues alongside the characters, which engages them actively in the narrative. For example, in shows like Sherlock or books by Agatha Christie, the thrill of solving puzzles keeps audiences on the edge, providing a mental challenge that is both engaging and satisfying. Additionally, these stories often delve into the psychology of both criminals and investigators, offering a unique look into human behavior. The fascination with grounds persuading unlawful acts,  and how adventurous unraveling  of mysteries adds intrigue, appealing to those craving for  psychological complexity.

These  often reflect social issues and moral dilemmas, making them relevant and thought-provoking. Umpteen crime series, like Mindhunter, examine real-life issues such as corruption, justice, and ethical decisions, giving audiences insights into societal problems while entertaining them without experiencing these in their real life. Also, this often resonates with audiences because it highlights the darker side of human nature, while also emphasizing justice and moral clarity, disseminating essential lessons about righteous ways, and also gaining mentally engaging with a crime scene without actually partaking in such endeavors, satisfying animal instincts harmlessly.

To conclude, crime fiction and dramas offer both entertainment and intellectual stimulation, making them a valuable genre. They keep audiences engaged with complex storylines and appeal to the  curiosity about human behavior, offering a chance to engage as a victim, a lawbreaker and a detective without being one, and absorbing essential learning.

Without capital punishment (the death penalty) our lives are less secure and crimes of violence will increase. Capital punishment is essential to control violence in society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The death sentence has long been a contentious issue, with arguments for and against its necessity in maintaining societal order and preventing criminal endeavors of violent nature. Some argue that it is critical for deterring such offenses, while others question its relevance.

Supporters of the death penalty emphasize its deterrent value. They believe that the existence of such an irreversible penalty discourages potential offenders from committing grave offenses like murder and terrorism. For example, countries such as Saudi Arabia, which has enforced strict statutes of putting perpetrators of brutal acts to death, report relatively low rates of illegal acts of savagery. Advocates also argue that it ensures justice by delivering the ultimate punishment to partakers of the most heinous acts, thereby providing consolation to victim families. Furthermore, they highlight its role in reinforcing public confidence in the legal system by ensuring severe consequences for grave violations.

Opponents, however, challenge the efficacy of this arrangement, in mitigating acts of barbarity. Studies from countries like Canada and Germany, which have abolished this penalty, show no significant increase in unlawful undertakings that cause physical harm. Critics argue that other factors, unless education and socioeconomic development proliferate to every section of society, such deviant behaviour cannot be curbed.  Similarly, not every offender breaks a certain law deliberately because inherent animal tendency makes humans incapable of controlling themselves. Therefore, unless such individuals are trained to control their emotions, no severity of punishment can incite fear among offenders.

In conclusion, while condemning to the gallows for unlawful undertakings intending harm to victims is viewed as necessary for ensuring public safety, some see it as an outdated and flawed practice. Its effectiveness as a deterrent remains inconclusive. I feel that such awards must be handed over discreetly where antisocial elements are irredeemable.

In some countries, it is believed that crime among young people is increasing. What do you think are the reasons for this trend? What types of punishment or approaches are most suitable for young offenders?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Reasons

  • Economic factors: lack of jobs and impoverishment

  • Social factor: peer pressure and advent of social media, and the situation is exacerbated by lack of proper counseling

  • Lack of parental monitorings and guidance

Suitable punitive measures

  • Engaging the young perpetrators in restoring the damage caused to places or assets

  • Reformation and redemption through rehabilitation

  • Educational support

  • Community initiatives should be run to involve youngsters in constructive activities

  • Warnings and retention

This surging incidence of unlawful endeavors involving young individuals has become a pressing concern across the world, making it imperative to delve into attributes driving this phenomenon, and discovering probable remedies to stem this trend.

The most prominent factor driving this tendency is a deterioration in familial, and social values and circumstances which has made the young generation lose its sense of direction, and stop distinguishing between right or wrong. Perpetrators, as young as those in their teens, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds, are reportedly found engaging in activities such as mugging, robbing,  vandalizing public property, and so forth, in all urban centres on the globe, as has been reported by the Washington post.

Likewise,  another factor underpinning the propensity to break laws amongst youngsters is abject poverty, and accompanying unemployment, forcing young people to resort to deviant ways to earn livelihood and survive. To corroborate, as per WHO, nearly ninety percent of pickpocketing and snatching in cities like London and New York, to name a few, can be ascribed to the jobless poor youth, unable to earn lawfully.

This social malady can be cured effectively provided families, community, and lawmakers join hands, to afford counseling, alternative skills training, and community services and activities, to the delinquent young. Moreover, selective punitive measures such as detention in correction facilities that san hardened criminals can also help curtail this development. For example, Singapore Police has successfully reformed numerous young offenders by sending them to rehabilitation schools and offering them occupational training.

To conclude, most young unlawful elements embrace anti-social ways of life owing to absence of appropriate enlightenment about righteousness, resources for survival and jobs. However, concerted efforts by every responsible component of society can help mitigate this complication, and reform the youth.

In some countries, a high proportion of criminal acts are committed by teenagers. Why has this happened? What can be done to deal with this?

Incidence of lawbreaking by teens is witnessing an astronomical surge due to the lack of education and guidance. This essay will discuss the attributes of this complication in detail and the preventive measures which can be taken.

The rising incidence of unlawful undertakings perpetrated by teen-aged individuals is propelled by the belief that this is an easy source of income and there are myriads of people misguiding them; they are uneducated and do not have the right knowledge about things. It is observed that many adolescents partaking in unlawful endeavors were impoverished and illiterate. Consequently, to overcome their miserable condition, they indulge themselves in illegal activities. For instance, the latter belonging from a low-income group indulge themselves in unauthorized activities like robbery, murder etc. in order to meet their end needs.

Moreover, parental negligence can also have a huge impact on those in their teens. Moreover, since friends have a great influence on the character: acceptable or unacceptable; therefore, an unfavorable influence can affect the behavior of such growing minds. To exemplify, as per New York Police Department, most shoplifting instances involving trends stem out of peer pressure and an intent to be a part of the group.

Policy makers can play a great role in surmounting the issue by making stringent laws such that people do not get involved in unethical behavior. Further, since education is paramount in every society, it is extremely important to educate young people about right and wrong things. Moreover, parents and friends can also counsel tender minds to prevent them from going astray.

To recapitulate, it is the utmost duty of parents to keep a vigil on their wards and explain to them the criminal activities and its consequences. Also, governments should take necessary steps to control  anti-social acts.

Some people believe that it is better to keep criminals in  prison for longer ,while other’s disagree and say that we must find a different solution .Discuss both views and give your opinion?

Some people believe that awarding longer prison sentences is the most appropriate way to mitigate crime, while others claim that alternative measures would be more beneficial. This essay will examine both perspectives and provide my opinion.

To start with, those advocating awarding stretched penitentiary terms, feel this can help alleviate incidence of antisocial endeavors, by ensuring that criminals remain away from society for a stipulated period, thereby guaranteeing public safety.  Moreover, the likelihood of repeated partaking will also attenuate; the fear of being locked up in a prison cell may serve as a deterrent from engaging in deviant behavior. Studies have proved that such penalties can significantly reduce illegal acts since one is forced to think twice before resorting to breaking the law.

On the other hand, it is suggested, nowadays, that alternative approaches: education, rehabilitation programs and early intervention, can also be extremely  effective in quelling antisocial undertakings. Rehabilitating perpetrators  seeks on reintegrating them with the mainstream by equipping them with soft skills, education, and psychological support. Programs that provide vocational training, mental health therapy, and substance abuse treatment, help reduce relapsing rates by addressing the root causes of criminal behavior.

Moreover, many infringements are by-products of poverty, illiteracy, and unstable family conditions. Investing in early education, mentorship programs, and skill development initiatives can prevent individuals from engaging in instances, wherein  they have to take the law into their own hands. These methods can  go a long way in reforming deviant minds and also saving invaluable tax money invested into creating jail infrastructure.

To conclude, while lengthening prison sentences can play a role in crime prevention by deterring potential offenders and ensuring public safety, alternative measures that help nip the evil in its bud can  be equally significant. A balanced approach is thus suggested.

Young people committing crimes should be treated the same as adults by the authorities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Young people committing crimes should be treated the same as adults by the authorities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Contemporary crimilogists and human behaviorists suggest that juvenile crimes should be considered fit for punishments as the grown-ups. This essay shall examine this proposal, and shall elucidate my inclination in the following paragraphs.

There is a prominent lobby that vouches for the idea of punishing the young perpetrators in the same manner as others and propounds that the leniency towards the younger ones has encouraged the crime in small towns and cities as they are not scared of the courts anymore, taking the judicial precedents into consideration. A recent survey suggests that in countries like India, the juvenile criminal cases have increased manifolds owing to the laxity in proper statutes to deal with such activities.

Some commentators further propose that incorporating such a step is the need of the hour since many antisocial elements have started taking the advantage of this arrangement, and have begun to use minors to undertake unlawful endeavors. Moreover, an illegal act, whether it is vandalism, rioting or harming others, should invite punitive measures since  these cause loss and immense pain to victims. Also, this will persuade parents to become more vigilant and start adopting methods to prevent their wards from going astray

Having said that, another school of thought argues that the young minds are bereft of maturity, lack requisite knowledge and guidance of what is lawful and what can be prejudicial to the public at large, such as using illegal weapons for self defense, and drink and drive cases, to name a few. Thus, they should be spared of punishments accorded to adults.

To recapitulate, controversies and disputes aside, I completely second the proposal to treat misdemeanors as they should be, irrespective of the age of the person involved in illegal activity. This will have an enduring impact on antisocial acts involving minors as their use as a medium to escape punitive consequences, will be discouraged.

Many studies have shown that the most criminals have a low level of education. Some people say that to reduce the crime rate, criminals must be educated within prisons. It will improve their prospects of employment when they are released. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Many studies have shown that the most criminals have a low level of education. Some people say that to reduce the crime rate, criminals must be educated within prisons. It will improve their prospects of employment when they are released. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The great discourse of contemporary times is aligned with the issue of whether imparting education to perpetrators while they are in the prisons can help to reform their ways after serving their sentence and eventually mitigate  anti socal endeavors , or not. The following essay will delve deeper into both aspects and share a plausible opinion.

Some eminent psychologists propound that education can render umpteen number of ways in transforming the conduct  of criminals: provision of vocational and rehabilitation skills in correctional facilities can help such people to find a suitable employment after their release, which not only will offer  financial support to them and their families but also render a new chance to lead their life with respect and dignity. Furthermore, societies can also utilize the potential of these antisocial elements in a more productive manner by affording them an environment where unlawful people can work safely with their counterparts, and thus alleviate  unlawful activities in the long run.

However, a lobby of skeptics asserts that this arrangement will only waste humongous efforts of authorities and hard-earned money of taxpayers as businesses will not offer employment opportunities to such perpetrators, by virtue of their past and hence, eventually make it hard for the latter to get fairly compensated jobs. Moreover, it has been observed that criminals are more inclined towards unlawful activities rather than other professional endeavors in order to earn money by easy means. This propensity cannot be altered  by implementation of a few educational classes in prisons, thus having little impact on behavior of these people.

To conclude, barring a few downsides, I feel that education is the only means to readjust the perpetrators back in society by reforming their behavior. Hence, I completely  concur with the given notion completely.

Crime is a problem all over the world. Some believe that crime prevention will make no difference, others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Globally, unlawful activities are increasing drastically. Some believe that dissuasion from such endeavors will remain a far cry despite use of various deterrents to cull such acts, but others are optimistic about the outcomes. In the forthcoming paragraphs, I will analyze both the sides of coins and share my inclinations.

To start with, a majority believes that poverty and unemployment are main factors driving antisocial elements to break laws as they find it easy to earn a livelihood effortlessly. Moreover, many are becoming addicted to partaking in these endeavors due to rising costs of surviving and shrinking incomes, undertaking deviant  ways can help them supplement their earnings. Similarly, some consider these illegal activities as adventurous that help them portray their bravery to others surrounding them such as peer groups and communes. These factors cumulatively influence the impact of steps taken to alleviate the number of felonies adversely, rendering every policy enacted to discourage criminal activity useless.

However, some believe that punishment can even turn even the hardened lawbreakers meek as it incites a fear among them about the consequences such as imprisonment, levies and even capital sentences. These measures can disincline them from taking laws into their own hands since no one wants to stay away from public life, or be executed. A survey by Law Firms found that in 2020 there were more than 100 cases of antisocial activities registered in a city, and when they compared their data with 2021, they found that the felony rate had reduced by 50% by just slapping stringent sentences on those committing  illegal acts.

To conclude, I strongly believe that law enforcement needs to come down with an iron hand to curtail incidence of unlawful acts. This can help in mitigating crime if not eliminate it completely.

Crime is a problem all over the world. Some believe that crime prevention will make no difference, others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Antisocial activities, undoubtedly, are a menace for society, and several policies are adopted to vanquish this social malady, but can something really help make surroundings safer from unlawful elements is fiercely debated. While some express pessimism, others reflect optimism.

Some lobby behind the notion that measures adopted to impede unlawful acts can make a huge difference. Reformation is a potent tool that makes those engaged in illegal endeavors to reform themselves and join back the mainstream. These include training criminals in alternative trades to allow them to make a living without harming others. Too corroborate, in India, in the 1980s dreaded dacoits of the notorious Ravines of Chambal were offered general amnesty and land to help them to adopt socially acceptable ways of life. This had a phenomenal impact as most of the notorious brigands such as Phoolan Devi reverted to civil life and also served as the member of parliament.

However, the skeptics argue that antisocial activities are driven by socioeconomic conditions like poverty, unemployment and illiteracy, forcing the affected individuals to resort to illegal methods to fulfill their needs. Moreover, the class struggle between the affluent and the deprived also causes people to embrace unlawful ways  to bridge the gaps. Further, it is undeniable that unless the nexus between the antisocials elements and their patrons from influential class is not breached, nothing can bring a change as those committing infringements walks scott free and are emboldened to repeat those endeavors. Thus, if the root causes are untouched, all efforts will remain futile.

Overall, while measures of dissuasion might not completely eradicate crime, it can significantly mitigate its impact and contribute to safer society. Combining a variety of approaches and engaging all stakeholders can lead to a more comprehensive and effective crime prevention strategy.

Crime rates are likely to decline due to the advancements in technology, which will help prevent and solve crimes in an easier way. Do you agree or disagree?

Do you agree or disagree? (no middle path in the conclusion)

  • Crime rates are likely to decline due to the advancements in technology, which will help prevent and solve crimes in an easier way.

Do you agree or disagree with the notion that use of technology will help in alleviating crime.

Yes?

These factors can help detect unlawful activities and also dissuade such endeavors.

  • Application of modern methods like DNA mapping can help not only discover the severity of crime but also nab perpetrators

  • Use of equipment such as CCTV cameras and devices supported by artificial  intelligence, can record the footage and also movements of antisocial elements, and help collect  evidence for prosecution

No

  • Illegal elements are always a step or two ahead of lawful agencies and always find ways to camouflage their acts.

  • Crime is an outcome of animal instinct that can never be eliminated, use of technology of any kind can hardly help

Intro I

Crime has always threatened human society, but as per some, the advent of modern crime detection and prevention methods bring some hope, and guarantees elimination of this menace. However, the other lobby vehemently challenges this.

Intro II

There is widespread optimism about the impact of modern methods on incidence of unlawful acts. Although this notion seems to be plausible to some, there is skepticism among critics who challenge the validity of this view.

Those  rallying behind this idea assumed that the contemporary methods, procedures and equipment being used to investigate, examine and prevent anti-social activities have a persuasive impact on potential perpetrators. They now know that it is hard to escape the punishment since it is an extremely straightforward task to uncover the trail of their deviant endeavors with the help of sophisticated tools, like DNA mapping and artificial intelligence, that can assist in collecting evidence to be used in the trials.

Moreover, equipment like closed circuit television cameras has come in as an effective medium of monitoring public places, strategic locations, streets and alleys, and places that are prone to illegal acts such as vandalism, mugging, shoplifting, and pick-pocketing, to name a few. This factor incites fear among law breakers and dissuades them from partaking in unlawful undertakings as they are aware that they are under surveillance and their movements are being recorded and this could lead to them to be apprehended.

To corroborate, various studies carried out by criminologists have helped establish the plausibility of this claim. In several countries such as the USA, the UK, Japan, and so on  where law enforcement agencies have resorted to using these methods, the incidence of illegal undertakings has registered a dramatic fall, and the  public is finding it easy to lead a safer life.

Nevertheless,  there is a lobby of criminologists that is quite cynical of such postulation. As per them, criminal activities stem from several influencing factors such as inherent animal instincts, socio-economic differences in society, poverty, adventurous attitudes of some, and so on. Until these aspects are addressed efficiently, any measures including use of modern technology to mitigate crime, are likely to fail miserably.

In hindsight, the claim of latest crime prevention methods helping alleviate unlawful acts, although might hold some substance, it is very unlikely that endeavors of criminal nature will completely disappear from the face of the earth.

To recap, despite doubts being raised by certain quarters, there is a great likelihood of the modern means of crime prevention taking effect and dissuading antisocial acts as such means have just come into existence that infuse a sense of fear of being caught red-handed.

The government should control the amount of violence in films and on television in order to decrease the violent crimes in society

The incrementing incidence of murderous antisocial acts has provoked that the content depicting such activities should be prohibited in various forms of media. I completely fail to subscribe to this suggestion and shall elucidate my stand in the following paragraphs.

To start with, those advocating for this policy profess that the current upsurge in unlawful incidents showcasing brutality finds its inspiration in films and programs being presented on television. The violence in such mediums is portrayed in a highly glamorized form, and those partaking in such undertakings are depicted as performing heroic deeds. Consequently, the audience, especially the youngsters and those with perverted mindsets are likely to emulate such precedents. To corroborate, nearly fifteen percent of juveniles injuring themselves or their peers, in the USA, every year is attributed to WWE since a majority of youngsters mimic the acts of professional wrestlers, during quarrels, and hurt themselves in the process.

However, those skeptical  are unconvinced by the rationale presented in support of this suggestion; as per them, criminal activities of brutal nature have plagued humans ever since they manifested on this planet, while the electronic entertainment tools appeared only about a century ago. Moreover, most of the presentations on all audio and visual mediums simply reflect what is happening in the surroundings by presenting it in the form of drama. Likewise, the audience, regardless of its age, is quite smart in differentiating between real and reel life, seldom blurs the boundaries between the two, and uses modern audio-visual content to simply entertain themselves instead of apeing  it.

In hindsight, a few sporadic incidents of murderous felonies cannot represent the aspirations of the majority because portrayal  for entertainment and real world events have no parallels or similarities. Thus, this view cannot be supported.

Some people believe that it is better to keep criminals in prison for longer, while others disagree and say that we must find a different solution. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Those who commit crime are kept in jails, but there are multiple views about the duration of their stay in lock-up. Many people say that law should put a culprit behind the bars for extended periods, whereas others demand some alternative remedies.

Detaining offenders in correctional facilities for stretched durations can set an example in society that anybody who commits heinous crime will get the same treatment. To exemplify, if a person convicted for violent criminal activities like homicide comes is released within a few days, it will lessen the fear of law agencies among the perpetrators of unlawful activities, thereby, increasing the crime rate. Therefore, confining lawbreakers in a prison for extended sentences is required in public interest.

Having said that, long term imprisonments can put a financial burden on government since the operating expenses of prisons are very high .For instance, basic things like food, clothes, electricity bills and many such things are required for the jailed convicts, and in most of the cases there is no tangible benefit generated from these centers which subsequently impacts the budget of the country. Hence, the government should find some alternatives to punish criminals.

Moreover, sending someone behind the bars for extended tenures may not help. There is a need to establish initiatives aimed at rehabilitation of such people such as training them in alternative trades, instead of confining them for longer stretched, so that they can earn livelihood without causing harm to the society and rejoin the mainstream.

In hindsight, subjecting someone to longer confinement just to set an example is of no use since it will amount to wastage of a lot of public money used for maintaining daily expenses. Using rehabilitation as a way to reform such people can go a long way.

Without capital punishment (the death penalty) our lives are less secure and crimes of violent nature will increase. Capital punishment is essential to control violence in society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Death penalties have been used  since eons, but in the contemporary times, there have been proposals repealing this statute. This has fetched flak from various quarters since such a move, as per many, could jeopardize public safety.

Continuation of capital punishment is the only way, as many criminoligists perceive, that can help minimize the incidence of acts of brutality, if not completely eliminated altogether, thereby rendering a crime-free environment. It is an accepted fact that there is hardly anyone who will like to be executed, and this factor can act as a strong deterrent against antisocial elements undertaking such activities that might cause physical harm of any kind to the victims.

This can be clearly elucidated by citing the precedents  of the countries which follow an unforgiving  code in dealing with the acts of savagery, and liberally award death sentences. In such societies, incidents of violent nature are either sporadic, or a once in a blue moon phenomenon. The inhabitants of such countries lead happier lives which are not overshadowed by the evil influence of barbarism.

However, the sceptics to this policy feel that no punishment of any severity can help contain incidents that involve violent behaviour since such conduct is an outcome of the inherent animal/primal instincts that surface many times at the slightest of provocations. This lobby feels unless steps are taken to reform and rehabilitate people with the devent mindsets, to encourage them to switch to nonviolent ways, the society will have to bear the brunt of the murderous acts.

In hindsight, despite scepticism being expressed about the usefulness of the capital sentences, I strongly feel this provision should continue since when the safety of the public is in question only proven methods like death penalties can bring comfort to the people.
