International travel makes people prejudiced rather than broad- minded. What are its causes and what measures can be taken to solve this problem?

International travel makes people prejudiced rather than broad- minded. What are its causes and what measures can be taken to solve this problem?

A general perception is emerging where undertaking overseas travel fuels bias rather than fostering broader perspectives. The reasons seem to stem from several factors, which will be discussed in the following paragraphs, along with their possible solutions.

To start with, a lobby strongly propounds that cultural misunderstanding is one of the major causes of this mindset. In other words, many tourists, who are ill-informed may misinterpret local customs, gestures, or traditions, leading to inculcating a negative impression. Moreover, individuals also face immense difficulties in some parts of the world: scams, poor services, or lack of safety, which may cause generalisation about the entire culture or a country. For example, a recent survey revealed that those visiting Paris were not content with the services provided: public toilets, drinking water, and so on, for tourists, and would avoid visiting again in the future.

Having said that, there are plenty of viable remedies available at hand. One of them is that travel and tour organizers could conduct orientation for the tourists, where they are exposed to basic knowledge of local customs and etiquettes to reduce misunderstanding and aid them to integrate well with the locals. Additionally, the lawmakers could deploy teams, especially in the tourist spots to curb the unlawful activities, and ensure there are adequate would-class facilities available for visitors in order to extend the best experience, which would encourage a favorable engagement and revisits.

To conclude, the reasons are lack of familiarization with the host norms and customs, safety concerns and inadequate facilities. These can be tackled if the lawmakers can provide services, create a safe environment for tourists, and tour operators offer orientation about the native culture and customs of destination societies.

Some people believe that tourists should be responsible for protecting the environment. Do you agree or disagree?

Some people believe that tourists should be responsible for protecting the environment. Do you agree or disagree?

It is often argued that tourists should take the onus of safeguarding the environment of the locations they are visiting, while some believe that tourists are not as responsible as citizens and the government. I strongly believe that exploitation as well as protection of the planet is the primary responsibility of locals and policymakers; However, ,visitors should be advised to comply by environmental rules.

To begin with, environmental protection requires long-term planning, strict regulations, and proper infrastructure. Tourists usually stay in a destination for only a short period of time ,so they cannot manage complex issues such as waste disposal systems, water conservation, or wildlife protection. These matters require government policies and financial investment. Without proper facilities like recycling bins, or sewage treatment plants, even responsible tourists may unintentionally cause environmental harm.

In addition, businesses engaged in this sector earn significant profits from visitors, and thus, they should take greater responsibility. Hotels, airlines, and tour operators can adopt eco-friendly measures such as reducing plastic use, conserving energy, and limiting visitor numbers in fragile areas. Since those organizations operate for a longer period and have more resources, they are in a stronger position to protect the environment than individual travelers. Moreover, placing too many responsibilities on tourists may discourage them from traveling, which could negatively affect local economies that depend on tourism income. A balanced approach, where authorities set clear rules and regulations, and companies follow sustainable practices, would be more effective.

In conclusion, although tourists should act responsibly, they should not be held mainly accountable for environmental protection. Governments and entities involved in facilitating leisure travelers entering a region for tourism should take the leading role in ensuring sustainable development.

Some suggest that safeguarding the natural surroundings of the destination locations is the onus of those undertaking journeys for tourism. However, this view can be challenged on various grounds by virtue of not being pragmatic.

Some people believe that tourists should be responsible for protecting the environment. Do you agree or disagree?

Agree

Disagree

  • Tourists are using services created and afforded by hosts and their governments

  • Policymakers of host nations should take the onus

    • Tourists are helping raise revenues which should be used responsibly for creating sustainable tourism

  • Locals involved in offering services and products should ensure eco-friendly policies

Some suggest that safeguarding the natural surroundings of the destination locations is the onus of those undertaking journeys for tourism. However, this view can be challenged on various grounds by virtue of not being pragmatic.

Those lobbying for this proposal propound that it is the leisure travelers who behave irresponsibly and erratically by littering, disposing plastic refuse and resorting to resource abuse: water and electricity. Therefore, it is assumed that making them accountable for the imbroglio they are causing will help nip the evil in its bud, but such harsh steps are likely to produce undesirable outcomes: people will be deterred from visiting such societies, impacting tourism and its associated sectors unfavorably.

Ones undertaking voyages to tourist destinations must completely rely on the locals for every need - boarding and lodging, and traveling and other activities- and consume whatever facility or resource is laid at their disposal; they cannot act independently in alien surroundings. Hence, expecting them to espouse (embrace) the burden of protecting ecology is unwarranted (unjustified). For instance, a European visitor traveling to Asia is likely to be oblivious of local environmental circumstances, and cannot act on their own to protect the planet.

Similarly, the tourism sector is helping generate colossal revenues, through various channels, for natives and policy makers of the host society - direct beneficiaries of this industry, making it imperative for them to devote a part of resources earned for the cause of insulating the environment from the impact of tourist activity. To corroborate, Japan allocates some portion of its annual budget for the upkeep of tourist locations and surroundings.

Overall, this view cannot be concurred with under any circumstances as this will only mean shifting the blame instead of acting concretely: host should don the mantle (take responsibility) of detaching tourism and the environment.

Nowadays, international tourism is the biggest industry in the world. Unfortunately, international tourism creates tension rather than understanding between people from different cultures. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

DISAGREE

  • Rendering a window to the people - both hosts and guests - to appreciate diversity and interact with each other in a cordial and conducive environment: helps remove misplaced notions about disparate ethnicities by providing an opportunity for an open interaction. This is a two way communication, both appreciate the differences, building bridges and fuelling a feeling of brotherhood.

  • A strange but pleasant  bonhomie develops between both the sides, the visitors and the visited, when former come and appreciate and shower praises for the hospitality.

  • Advent of alien travellers opens up venues of employment and business for the locals, both directly and indirectly. This makes  the natives proud of their society and persuades them to adopt a friendly attitude towards the aliens, which is reciprocated in similar manner

AGREE

Tourism is hampering relations rather than building bonds

  1. Contra view is held by conservatives and purists: it is their fear that aliens bring along their mannerisms - which may be incompatible with the local aspirations and customs -  and influence locals, especially youngsters, in undesirable ways. This can cause distortions in local ways of life.

  2. Some tourists, although rarely, behave erratic and which can offend locals

  3. The litter and pollution that results due to foreign tourists, is cleaned by levying taxes on the local inhabitants.

Although tourism has become a prolific sector that is generating humongous economic opportunities, it is often criticized for engendering discord among people hailing from disparate cultural backgrounds. However, this perception is misplaced and can be challenged on several grounds.

The  resurgence nomadic culture of bagpackers has led to opening doors for a conducive dialogue between peoples belonging to diverse region of the globe; those travelling to experience the diversity of traditions and ways of life, tend to interact with hosts with liberal and empathetic mindset, and are reciprocated with warm and friendly  treatment, helping generate harmony among both the parties. To corroborate, a long term study by the World Travel and  Tour Organization, spanning over 20 years, has found that an overwhelming number of tourists admitted returning home with enriching experiences about different ways of life. Similarly, the destination societies also expressed satisfaction about receiving visitors from other parts of the world, serving them, and getting to know about the customs and beliefs of the guests.

Nonetheless, those critical of this activity  quote quite infrequent incidents to  malign the image of this industry. They say that alien visitors bring along their mannerism, disregard local aspirations, expectations and ways of life making hosts feel (very cautious) wary of foreigners entering into their country. Nevertheless, these allegations have little substance, especially in the modern times that are dominated by information revolution, and those travelling for leisure and enjoyment have developed the propensity to not only inform/ enlighten themselves about the food, language, and clothing, but also about the native etiquettes overruling any chance of conflicts.

In hindsight, disputes aside, this notion cannot be deemed acceptable at all, for this sector is bridging gaps between heterogeneous societies, and helping forge a congenial global environment that sans bitterness.

Some people think that cultural traditions may be destroyed when they are used as money making attractions amid at tourist. Others believes that it is the only way to save these traditions. Discuss on both sides and give your opinion.

Some people think that cultural traditions may be destroyed when they are used as money making attractions amid at tourist. Others believes that it is the only way to save these traditions. Discuss on  both sides  and give your opinion.

Why some people think commercializing culture and traditions for the sake of tourism, can dilute them

It is the view of purists

Exhibiting ways or life and customs to generate revenues from alien tourists can cause irreversible damage since

  • it is possible that many authentic customs may be compromised to make them more comprehensible for aliens - like abandoning traditional clothing, musical instruments and replacing them with modern ones

    •  This could precipitate / result in the youth adopting those methods and tools

  • Everything becomes commercialized and those engaged in demonstrating cultural aspects may start working only for money and lose the passion to preserve the traditions

Why some people believe that this is the only way to prevent cultures from dying out

  • In the concurrent times, only something that is visible can be guaranteed perpetuation, especially when cultures of rich countries are overwhelming the whole world.

    • This  will encourage youth to follow their native ways of life with more enthusiasm

  • This is a good way of keeping the indigenous art and culture alive as those engaged in these undertakings will be able to earn money.

The great public discourse of contemporary times is aligned with the  topic of use of indigenous customs to earn revenues from alien tourists. While some feel that this could help preserve the local ways of life, others fear that this might cause irreversible damage.

The lobby of purists is up in arms against this arrangement as they resent the use of traditions as a part of tourist attraction. They profess that this might result in distortion of cultural practices by virtue of making them lose their originality since certain aspects of local beliefs make the things more attractive and comprehensible for the audience. To exemplify, it has been observed that quite often the musical instruments and the attire of folk singers are switched to western and modern alternatives, as has happened in the case of folk music of Punjab where the performers are seen playing guitars while wearing a tuxedo.

Nonetheless,  the former view can be justifiably challenged by citing certain facts about the concurrent conditions of a highly globalized world that entails visibility, especially when dominant cultures are overwhelming the global community. Therefore, this method is the need of the hour: demonstrating traditional rituals and beliefs in lieu of revenues does not only help sustain the novelty value of such customs and encourage foreigners to know more about them but also allow the practitioners to earn a livelihood for their subsistence. Moreover, this is considered to be an effortless method of persuading the youth  to return to their roots and perpetuate their cultural values.

In hindsight, the vexation of critics is unfounded and their fears lack substance since it is not possible to preserve and promote traditional values and lifestyles endemic to a society without making them conspicuous to the global community.

Some people think that cultural traditions may be destroyed when they are used as money-making attractions aimed at tourists. Others believe it is the only way to save these traditions. Discuss on both sides and give your opinion.

Showcasing local customs is becoming one of the prominent means of generating income from the travellers hailing from other parts of the globe. Many are in the favor of the above notion and feel that this will help preserve the native culture. However, there are a few who register their disapproval.

Some are cynical about portraying traditions with commercial objectives, out of fear that this might prove detrimental for the authenticity of customs. There is a potential danger, these traditions may gradually become simply the modern means of entertainment, which will initially blur the distinction of customs, by virtue of being altered to make things comprehensible for aliens, and finally leading to extinction since many might start following those greatly modified practices.

Nonetheless, a few are quite optimistic about this exercise and are of the view that many cultures have already disappeared due to the rapid development of modern society. Thus,  it is the need of the hour to make the native cultural traditions witnessed and appreciated by the tourists, so that these could be acknowledged across the globe, and hence visible.

Moreover, using these to make money to engage leisure travelers is considered quite practical since many would consider it as a novelty and hail it. Beside this, it might become a tempting profession amongst local youth, who may be overwhelmed by the financial benefits such work might help drive in. Consequently, preserving and perpetuating tradition to the next generation may become an easier task, and thus prevent them from being lost forever.

To conclude, I personally feel that although making cultural traditions profitable attractions can save them in some respect, the potential perils should by no means be ignored as it would eventually make the values and authentic flavor fade in the future.

Tourism is a modern form of colonialism. It distorts local economies, causes environmental damage and ruins the places it exploits. To what extent would you support or reject this idea?

The attitudes towards tourism being a form of  imperialism are ambivalent; there are sections that affirm that this sector is bringing several accolades for the nation, while others feel it is engendering environmental issues. In this essay, I shall elucidate my stance on this matter by deliberating upon the various aspects of this industry.

At the outset, those rallying behind this notion base their rationale on the fact that tourism brings forth people from diverse cultures and ethnicities together, empowering harmony between disparate communities, and promulgating bonhomie. Moreover, in order to  cater to the growing need of the industry, many professions have been founded, especially in the hospitality and transportation sector . This has seen multifold increment in the employment opportunities for the masses and bringing colossal revenue owing to the tourist developments leading to generating monetary benefits.

However, the opponents might argue that tourism leads to expanding carbon footprint and tourists act in an irresponsible manner by creating a menace by littering around and defacing places.Nevertheless, this underlying notion can be challenged as the benefits reaped from this industry are umpteen: Owing to this, invaluable foreign exchange is being generated leading to reforming economies. More and more tourist destinations are being developed, making people aware and proud of their own cultural heritage.

Therefore, it can be asserted that this industry has witnessed an unprecedented influx of tourists in the contemporary times and aids in fetching unmatched yields such as facilitating cultural exchange, development of infrastructure, and generating sumptuous revenue.

Tourism is a modern form of colonialism. It distorts local economies, causes environmental damage and ruins the places it exploits. To what extent would you support or reject this idea

Yes / no? Justify by giving an explanation

Yes: many are wary of this activity, as it allows the powerful societies to overwhelm weaker ones and eventually gain control through cultural interaction that leads to economic dominance.

+No: there are no parallels since imperialism was all about slavery and exploitation, while this activity is helping bring cultures closer.

   I disagree

  1. + this sector has opened the way for bringing people from diverse cultures and ethnicities together, creating opportunities for friendly exchange of views and ideas and fostering bonds.

  2. Helping generate revenues for the countries in invaluable foreign exchange.

  3. It is helping generate business worth billions and employment across a cross-section of skills - directly or indirectly related to this industry - for millions.

  4. Helping generate revenues for the upkeep of places of tourist interest.

  5. Creating awareness among natives about the relevance of their heritage.

Agree

  1. Tourists act irresponsibly and go around littering and defacing places.

  2. This industry is also causing an expansion of carbon footprint in areas frequented by visitors.

  3. They with their mannerisms become a subject of wrath of locals.

  4. They are causing a distortion in local trades and employment patterns.

Tourism, the modern phenomenon, despite being the largest sector globally, has earned the wrath of detractors who blame it for predisposing society and environment to an array of complications: economic, cultural, and environmental, and even compare it to imperialism. I fail to concur with these allegations in absolute terms, and shall elucidate my stand in following paragraphs.

To commence with, those harboring cynicism profess that this industry is promoting cultural invasion by virtue of alien travelers overwhelming the locals, especially the youth, with their mannerisms and clothing, thereby creating demands for foreign goods, and causing the advent of consumer companies, who eventually, take (wrest) control from local governments. Moreover, many are leaving their jobs to associate themselves with this industry, in turn, becoming susceptible to seasonal unemployment. Additionally, this is also leading to expansion of carbon footprint.

Nonetheless, these accusations lack conviction since influx of tourists into a country facilitates intermingling of cultures, and thus, helping forge harmonious relationships unlike slavery, an outcome of colonial settings. When guests and hosts interact with each other, they attempt to comprehend the distinct customs and ways of life, broadening the mindsets and creating bonhomie between the two.

Similarly, undeniably, the economic impact of this domain is unmatched: it has been responsible for creating direct and indirect employment - across a cross-section of skills - for millions, and businesses worth billions. Not only this, the state is also a direct beneficiary of this activity, for it collects taxes from all the nodes (venues) serving tourists, along with direct revenues in the form of foreign exchange.

In hindsight, the fears being expressed by critics of tourism are not well-founded since this form of leisure travel has benefitted the destination societies and travelers alike, churning out economic activity, and enabling the creation of cross-cultural bonds.

Today more and more tourists are visiting places where conditions are difficult, such as the Sahara desert or Antarctica. What are the benefits and disadvantages for tourists who visit such places?

Today more and more tourists are visiting places where conditions are difficult, such as the Sahara desert or Antarctica. What are the benefits and disadvantages for tourists who visit such places?

In contemporary times, tourism to destinations where life sustainability is critical has increased immensely over the past two decades. This scenario has outcomes that are positive and negative for the visitors. In subsequent paragraphs, I will discuss both the perspectives.

To begin with, a prominent school of thought propounds that those visiting such locations can easily appreciate the difference of facilities that are being provided to them in their own home towns in comparison to the locales being traveled to. This will elevate their intellectual level, and they will start appreciating the things that they have, and further, will put a halt to the wastage of resources such as food, water, electricity and other sources of energy which are of prime importance and are fast depleting. Moreover, they will be able to educate their children and neighbors, which will create more and more awareness among other inhabitants.

However, a lobby points out the hazards that some might encounter in unwanted emergencies, and at that time, it will be an uphill task to obtain the aid quickly. These places experience extreme climatic conditions that are sometimes unbearable for many, and absence of adequate hospital services multiplies the risks involved. To exemplify, as per the recent survey concluded by National Geographic, every year, an umpteen number of sick travelers are transported by helicopters from the Sahara Desert to the nearest cities because of them falling ill due to extreme heat and inhospitable conditions.

Overall, traveling to the remote locations on the planets carries an unprecedented benefit of affording education to visitors about the essential role of natural resources in the environment even though some do face jeopardy  due to scarcity of even skeletal facilities there. Therefore, I feel such tourism should be promoted, but with caution.

Tourism is a modern form of colonialism. It distorts local economies, causes environmental damage and ruins the places it exploits. To what extent would you support or reject this idea?

Although the tourism industry is booming, it has invited flak from various quarters asserting that it is destroying local economies and the places of tourist interest, and is regarded as imperialism.

To start with, no parallels can be drawn between the two since imperialism was all about slavery and exploitation, while this activity opens windows for bringing people from different corners of the globe together, helping to create exchange of different perspectives and ideas; thus, creating harmony and appreciation for diversity.

Along with this, the platform helps in building the global economy: churning out business worth billions and employment for millions. To corroborate, a study conducted by the Tourism Board of India indicated that the industry has offered forty precent  jobs in hotels, travel agencies and taxi businesses and is anticipated to further rise to sixty percent by 2040. Moreover, governments generate revenues, mostly, in the form of invaluable foreign exchange, a part of which is also used for the upkeep of tourist places, infrastructure and transportation.

Having said that, despite being unfounded, the skeptics assert the ramifications of growing tourism on environment, local trade and tourist spots: visitors tend to overuse or overexploit the natural resources; expansion of carbon footprint due to greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles and improper disposal of trash. Also, they tend to cause accidental offenses, for instance, wearing an inappropriate dress in temples, leads tourists to become a subject of wrath of natives. Above all, the locals tend to abandon their traditional occupations to be  a part of tourism and become vulnerable to seasonal unemployment.

In hindsight, I completely fail to subscribe to the idea that the activity is colonizing and pernicious to nature and tourist spots; rather, it is offering humongous benefits: enhancing the GDP and diversity.

Foreign tourists must be charged higher fees than local people to visit cultural places and historical sites. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give your own opinion including relevant examples.

It is generally seen that tourist attractions such as monuments, historical sites and various cultural places impose higher entry charges on overseas travellers. I do agree with this notion and believe that similar access free shouldn’t be charged from everyone.

Many are in favor of this arrangement. When tourists are charged higher, this will help in boosting the economy of the host country and developing the tourism industry. As this access fees will help local governments generate money for the maintenance of the heritage sites. Otherwise, they will have to channelize funds from the public budget. From this perspective, having higher fees for foreign travellers has a better impact.

In addition to the above, imposing higher fees will also help in maintaining the novelty value that means when people pay for something, they value it more. For instance, the Louvre Museum in Paris costs a lot to enter, attracts a cluster of people every year while the Cathedral de Paris has no entrance fees thereby, doesn’t experience such an influx.

Similarly, the local people must be aware of their national cultures and the past associated with historical sites. The government should keep low access fees to encourage them to visit such places and imbibe the knowledge regarding their country. Furthermore, the residents cannot be charged higher since they pay taxes and are the true owners of such locations, along with being informal ambassadors of such locations.

To conclude, having the same ticket fee, both from local people as well as foreign travellers to visit various cultural and historical places like monuments, parks, regional fests and so on, will be unfair to the natives and unfavourable to the economy as well. Hence, I concur with the statement.

The visitors should adopt and take up the customs and traditions of the country they are visiting

Traveling has become a ubiquitous phenomenon in contemporary times, raising a controversial question that whether those undertaking this endeavor should embrace native customs of host society, or should the latter welcome diversity. The following paragraphs will critically analyze this matter.

An army of people suggests that travelers should subscribe to customs of the destination society: this would help them explore native practices more closely as they would be accepted by locals without reluctance, creating a bonhomie between the two cultures and establishing a dialog that helps the former the experience the host society and its aspirations elaborately. Besides this, they would also be able to circumvent any possibilities of offending the natives by desecrating their conventions and beliefs.

However, the former view holds little substance in the concurrent era when the world is becoming highly globalized. This approach reflects a hostile attitude and is likely to fetch similar responses from other societies, thereby affecting the harmonious environment of the world. Those visiting a country are there to observe and experience the difference of traditions and rituals, but not to abandon their own.

Moreover, such an inhospitable attitude is bound to have a long lasting impact on tourism of the host country that will be extremely adverse. The affected visitors will carry home the negative opinions and spread them far and wide; consequently, the influx of the alien travelers will dramatically reduce, impacting not only the local employment in businesses that heavily rely on this trade and also the foreign exchange earnings.

Overall, disputes aside, the unfriendly approach towards foreign individuals entering a country for a short term is unwarranted; they should be afforded freedom to continue with their legal native practices. It will not only boost the reputation of destination countries but also promote tourism.

Nowadays, international tourism is the biggest industry in the world. Unfortunately, international tourism creates tension rather than understanding between people from different cultures. Discuss and share your opinion.

Global tourism, despite being a major money-spinner for many economies across the globe has failed to stay out of controversy of it being an activity that is promoting discord among diverse cultures. But, this view is not held by another lobby.

To start with, those skeptical of this activity cite some sporadic incidents to tarnish the image of this industry. Most of such events usually take place due to the lack of familiarization of alien visitors with the local customs and ways of life. However, it has been seen that today most travellers before departing from their home country, tend to inform themselves about the culture of hosts so that they can avoid uncomfortable circumstances and also the wrath of host citizens.

Nevertheless,   the real picture is far from what is painted by the critics of tourism. As per them, tourists have become a medium of conveying messages of friendship and harmony that they carry from their own countries to the destination societies. They do not only enthusiastically absorb the information about distinct cultures from alien surroundings but also impart knowledge of their ways of life among the host citizens, who in turn accept those in a friendly manner, fostering a sense of brotherhood among both.

Similarly, the economic perspective attached to this activity renders it an essential role of bridging gaps between civilizational fault lines. When aliens travel to a society, they generate employment and business for the hosts by virtue of which they are received by natives warmly, aiding in fostering bonhomie between the former and the latter.

In hindsight, quite contrary to the allegations levelled by the cynical lobby, arrival of foreign tourists in a country paves way for fomenting harmonious relationships between diverse nationalities and ethnicities, rather than fomenting a rift.

Nowadays, international tourism is the biggest industry in the world. Unfortunately, international tourism creates tension rather than understanding between people from different cultures. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Tourism industry across different countries has given people the opportunity to expand their horizons and create new experiences beyond borders. While in some cases, this has created a collaborative effort for the hosts and visitors to enrich the experience of each other, multiple sections of the demography believe that it could also be counterproductive. This topic needs a deeper analysis.

In contemporary times, a trend being observed is the resurgence of a nomadic culture for travelers. This pattern is complemented by the empathetic nature of tourists  which often includes living, sharing and most importantly, caring for the natives of the host countries they are visiting, creating opportunities for the guests to naturally blend into a new cultural environment. The locals, who draw economic, as well as cultural enrichment,  also reciprocate by offering a receptive atmosphere, in which those visiting feel at home. In a recent survey by Travel digest, it has been observed that 70% of host countries make it a cultural priority to ensure tourists feel welcome which helps create a strong and long-lasting bond with the native residents.

Nevertheless, the critics, as always, cite instances,  despite these being sporadic, where there have been tourists who have blatantly disregarded regional practices in a country even though such behavior stems from the entrants being completely oblivious of native ways of life. The disrespectful approach, as this lobby alleges, could occasionally create a sour experience for the hosts who often carry an incorrect impression of aliens. Another reason often cited for disgruntlement is the expansion of carbon footprint due to tourist activity: to cater to tourists, various services are established for which natives are made to bear taxes.

In conclusion, the exaggeration of some inconsequential events to tarnish the image of this industry seems quite irrational and lacking in substance. Like every coin has two sides, tourism also has some darker shades, but it is surely doing a commendable task of creating bonds along with employment and business.

Today more and more tourists are visiting places where conditions are difficult, such as the Sahara desert or the Antarctic? What are the benefits and disadvantages for tourists who visit such places?

Rising inclination among those wedded to the idea of exploring untrodden paths to gain unprecedented excitement out of leisure trips is taking them to  untamed and pristine locations, they are even prepared  to face the hostile environment. This, however, has both the pros and cons for such individuals.

Exploring unknown and remote realms of the planet help the travellers satisfy their lust for adventure; address their adrenaline rush; and also fetch unorthodox experience. These places, with their unpredictable conditions present a challenge- not usually experienced in conventional tourist locations- which upon overcoming fuels a sense of achievement and satisfaction, thereby quenching the thirst for doing something unique that has not been tried by others. Many can also drive an enriching experience of braving the inhospitable climate and surroundings and thus earning immortal memories.

Similarly, another major benefit that visitors to far-flung areas can obtain is the first hand experience of the unspoiled and immaculate nature in all its glory such encounters make them enlightened about the environment and its relevance for the planet. Numerous accounts shared by those who have undertaken journeys to such locations elucidate the fact that on returning back home, most have become more responsible towards nature.

However, those visiting uninhabitable conditions and areas are exposed to several hazards, as many suggest. Being away from civilization makes them vulnerable to unexpected twists and turns, which in extreme conditions could even become life threatening. For instance, falling sick, or meeting an accident could result in serious consequences due to absence of appropriate medical help.

Overall, embarking upon journeys to harsh environments and corners offer exciting opportunities to the Backpackers though the experiences can turn sour if one encounters unannounced incidents. Hence, one must be prudent about choosing such places before travelling to them.
