Do you agree or disagree?

  • Some people think that everyone should look after their health as a duty to the society they live in, rather than their own personal benefit.

Should personal well being be considered more of a social obligation than personal motive?

Yes. Why health should be social duty than personal advantage?

  • The health of one influences everyone around: pandemic is a live example, and jeopardize safety of the society

  • If the fall sick,  they will consume invaluable public resources and cost society dearly

  • They will not be able to contribute to society

  No. Why?

  • If health of a person is robust, they can lead an independent life without sufferings and misery

  • They can also pursue their dreams and ambitions, and earn success

Intro

It is commonly argued that one should look after their well being as a part of their social obligation and not just as their personal asset. In my view, this matter needs a profound analysis.

Intro 2

Health of an individual and welfare of society are intricately entwined (closely related). This has persuaded many to suggest that one should take care of their wellbeing more of duty towards society than their personal comfort. Following paragraphs shall critically analyse the relevance of this notion.

Intro 3

The great public discourse of contemporary times is aligned with the issue whether robust health of an individual is more of an obligation towards society than personal welfare, or not. Following paragraphs shall delve deeper into this matter and share a plausible conclusion.

To start with, those considering personal well being as social commitment feel that people living in a community impact each other: both positively and negatively, and in the current paradigm when social interaction has become paramount,  it is important to protect each other from infectious diseases. For instance, the recent pandemic has proven the significance of this perception. It was a personal initiative taken by people at their own level as a part of their responsibility that helped stem/stop/halt proliferation/spread of coronavirus.

Moreover, undeniably sick individuals tend to drain public resources by requiring an elaborate healthcare framework that includes establishment of hospitals for diagnosing and treating diseases; training medical professionals; and compensating healthcare practitioners at various levels for dispensing medical interventions. It has been observed that health budgets, across the world, take away a major chunk of invaluable public money. Besides, experts suggest that every citizen should strive to contribute economic productivity and not consume resources like falling ill.

However, the other school of thought considers physical and mental well being as an advantage for oneself rather than caring any social relevance since this allows individuals to lead an independent and satisfying life where they can pursue the dreams and ambitions without having to rely on others or medications and interact with family and friends.

Overall, even though a healthy mind and body must benefit individuals personally, it has a greater relevance for society and the nation as a gregarious creature and is influenced by those around in terms of health and happiness.

Nowadays many young people deliberately damage public places

Cause

  • Lack of counseling about how to vent their anger
  • Lack of education about the relevance of communal properties - youth are completely oblivious of this fact that public places are funded by taxpayers’ money and hold a great importance for society
  • Lack of empathy towards surroundings
  • Lack of accountability
  • An intent to highlight their fearless  attitude
  • Absence of proper measures to counter such acts

Measures to counter such acts

  • Educating them about the significance of such places and the impact of their actions
  • Holding them or their families accountable for such damage and making them bear the expenditure of such damage
  • Punitive measures: penalty and punishment
  • Installing proper security for such location
  •

In concurrent times, a startling phenomenon seems to be surfacing around where the youngsters  are found defiling public spaces. Many attribute such conduct to lack of education and accountability among them. As per experts, certain judicious steps can help curtail such acts.

The primary reason behind such disruptive behavior among the youth is absence of adequate enlightenment about the relevance of such places, and their obligations as lawful citizens. It has been observed that youngsters are completely oblivious about the role of communal property, why it is there and how it is to be used; and moreover, why it is necessary to protect it from being desecrated. This lack of knowledge also leads to apathy, encourages anti-social acts, and many end up taking such properties for granted, and defiling them for either pleasure,  or vent out their anger.

Additionally, dearth of adequate measures to ensure prevention of such conduct is adding fuel to fire and exacerbating the situation. Across the world, as it has been surveyed, governments are yet come up with ways to surmount such unruly behavior, and vandals have a free run, who go around damaging the property that belongs not only to society but also them cumulatively, at their will fearlessly.

Nevertheless, this menace can be curbed provided families and  schools join hands in informing young ones about their civic obligations towards society - that should mandatorily include teaching about significance of such places. Besides this, the state should resort to punitive methods: penalties and punishments for perpetrators and their families to discourage such endeavors.

Overall, although vandalism involving young individuals is a pressing  problem today, it is not unconquerable. Appropriate social education  and prudent steps by authorities can go a long way in overcoming this issue.

Ielts Essay Taxation

Taxation, in various manifestations, despite being historically practiced, and also being deemed essential, fails to dissuade critics from questioning the very relevance of this policy, who quote some interesting views to support their view.

Levies   form the basis of revenue generation of the state, since it does not have any other source of income, which in turn are used for ensuring smooth functioning of the government machinery, as well as delivering development. Establishment and development of infrastructure – ranging from transportation, communication, utility generation and supplying like that of electricity and water; subsidized health care and education; and housing, has an overwhelming reliance on the taxes. If these were not collected, where a nation would be, as the supporters suggest.

Similarly, the funds generated through tariffs and duties are used to support and afford the most critical service to the citizens: security and protection. Every nation must ensure that the natives are protected from  internal and external threats, and for this  maintaining robust law enforcement agencies and military forces is pivotal which of course is funded with the help of public money.

Nevertheless, those cynical perceive it as an act of robbing people of their hard earned money. They profess, when individuals struggle at their own expense – in  employment or business, and fend for themselves  without any external intervention – and  face various uncertainties, like loss of jobs or failure of commercial endeavors, why not  retain the money for own  pleasure and future.

To recap, controversies apart, taxes are a way to ensure a safe and productive social environment. Every citizen should be obligated to fulfill this responsibility since governments have been vested with these powers by the people only. Except for sporadic failures,  authorities use the funds sourced from such levies for public good.

Ielts Essay - Government Assistance and Unemployment

With the global economy reeling under public debts, and private sector passing through a lean phase, retrenchment has become a common practice. This has led to a spurt in unemployment across the world. To overcome this desperate situation, governments should intervene and help the jobless people.

Employment is not only the basic criteria of personal and social life but also a way to earn money to ensure a comfortable living. If the governments intervene and start extending assistance to the jobless individuals, by way of rendering financial grants, and providing subsidized services, it would come in handy for many, since it would help ensure minimum subsistence for those undergoing a crisis of sorts, as well as ensuring sustenance of quality of life. For instance, many affluent countries follow a similar practice of helping their jobless citizens by extending all kinds of financial and non-financial assistance. This has helped the people of those countries to weather all kinds of crisis.

Apart from that, with the governments coming out to assist the jobless people, it would be easier to prevent a rise in crime – that may result due to jobless people resorting to crime to make some money. Besides this, it is worth making a note here that going without a job does not only create financial crisis but it can also have an adverse impact on the mental wellbeing of individuals – due to loss of self esteem.

However, there could be some unwarranted outcomes, as the unemployed people might become completely dependent on the government help, and shun the idea of getting another job altogether, this would adversely affect their productivity. Such propensity has been observed in various countries where the state offers such grants, that jobless people abandon efforts to seek employment altogether.

To sum up, I feel that unemployment can tax people mentally and physically, and government assistance can help mitigate some of the misery and pain.
