Impoverishment plagues humanity even in the modern world, and despite adopting several measures, this social malady has endured. This can be attributed to a slew of causes, making it imperative to discover panacea to get rid of this challenge.

Destitution is prominently conspicuous in developing nations; they have perennially  struggled owing to paucity of fundamental resources, conspicuously visible when it comes to provisioning elementary amenities: shelter, food, clothing and so on. Similarly, education plays an important role in human upheaval and lack of it in economically weaker nations has been a major obstacle in upliftment of the deprived, leaving them fending for themselves without sufficient resources to support themselves because of poorly paid jobs. Moreover, there is an unequal distribution of wealth between communities, and corruption adds to the woes as the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer.

As far as mitigating this miserable condition is concerned, international communities can play a pivotal role in this endeavor by helping poverty-stricken countries financially: extending monetary aid and also bolstering programs with expertise and resources to help engender and augment infrastructure, so as to create employment venues. Judiciously planned undertakings should be initiated for the alleviaition of the poor: establishing programs to afford free education - awarding scholarships for the deserving;  affording essential facilities, free of cost healthcare, and so on. Likewise, strict policies should be enacted to quell corruption to ensure even dispersion of among disparate popualtion segments.

Overall, undeniably, penury is a serious issue, nonetheless if the global efforts afford relief and support in the form of financial aid and benefits, and the local governments act transparently and aim at extending facilities to all, this phenomenon can be minimized if not eliminated.

The differences between countries are becoming less and less evident, as people all over the world wear the same fashions, use the same brands, have similar eating habits and watch the same TV channels. Do the advantages of this trend outweigh its disadvantages?

Advantages/ups/favorable outcomes/ pros/

  • Homogeneous thinking and aspirations among people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds - which is paving way for harmonious relationships

    • This will help mitigate the possibilities of conflicts

  • It has  become easier for people to travel to different parts of the world to fulfill their travel objectives: jobs, education, leisure, seeking medical attention; establishing business

  • This has helped proliferate awareness, education, development in various parts of the world

Pitfalls/downsides/cons/ detriments/ unfavorable outcomes/ drawbacks/demerits/ disadvantages/ darker-gray shades

  • This is leading to demise of distinct cultures, especially of those regions which are economically weaker

  • Tourism is also losing its charm

  • Many also term it is a new form of invasion that might lead to neocolonialism

The contemporary times have been witness to the blurring of dissimilarities, in terms of choice of food, clothing and entertainment, across the world. This phenomenon is believed to be having a domino effect, which has appeared in favourable and unfavourable manifestations.

To start with, this trend has come in as a boon for mankind: people all over the world are abandoning their heterogeneous aspirations and tastes and are embracing homogeneity. This evolution has been hailed as extremely beneficial, it is helping people develop a broader and liberal perspective and understanding about other cultures, aiding in bridging the gaps based on culture, ethnicity, geography and nationality, and establishing enduring harmonious relationships among the citizens of the global village. This raises the possibility of resolution of conflicts without firing a bullet, and peace  descending on the planet.

Moreover, it is undeniable that this shift towards the global preferences has ushered in an era of unprecedented convenience. Now, people travelling to different parts of the globe to fulfill their objectives of gaining education, finding suitable employment, receiving appropriate medical assistance and intervention and exploring for leisure and enjoyment, rarely need to worry about easily adapting to the alien surroundings, they feel at home anywhere on the planet now.

However, this dilution of distinct aspects of diverse global cultures has a major flaw, it is causing demise of unique traditions and ways of life, especially of the weaker cultures. Many fear this will lead to an irreversible loss of invaluable knowledge that has been accumulated over several ages, for mankind.

Overall, I feel even though this swing towards the global preferences has exposed many customs and beliefs to the possibility of extinction, the advantages derived from this tendency eclipse even the direst of the failings.

Globalization has many positives but its negative effects should also not be ignored. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Globalization has many positives but its negative effects should also not be ignored. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Globalization has caused an upheaval in almost all walks of life. However, some people believe that a substantial amount of adverse outcomes has also been associated with its advent. I disagree with this notion and believe that the merits of globalisation surpass/outstrip the drawbacks of the same.

With the emergence of globalisation, markets in the global economy have integrated. This new arrangement has given rise to social media, as a result, people can communicate with others, regardless of political boundaries or geographies, helping create harmonious relationships between people who now happily identify themselves as global citizens rather than being those limited to their nationalities or ethnicities. This has also rendered businessmen a platform to reach prospective customers anywhere, aiding in flourishing their businesses, thereby, the economies. From this perspective, globalisation has fetched great advantages.

Moreover, the advent of MNCs and global brands has created an upsurge in the bundle of opportunities. The inflow of investment has led to creation of more employment in all the countries which eventually has boosted economies. This has subsequently helped in alleviating poverty from the developing nations and driving in prosperity. Thus,  mitigating economic disparities between the countries.

In addition to the above, globalisation has assisted the consumerist society to satisfy their growing requirements. Due to the cross-border trade, a plethora of products and services are easily accessible, blessing the population with a rich profusion of luxuries and comforts at similar prices and of identical quality. Most businesses launch their products across the globe at the same time,  allowing consumers to enjoy the produce without worrying about accessibility.

To reiterate, globalization has united the national economies leading to mutual benefits. Thus, it can be safely said that the negative aspects of globalization do not eclipse the advantages.

Ielts Essay - Globalization

Globalization has become a synonym with the politics of the planet earth and every nation across the world is grossly influenced by this phenomena. Almost all countries are reaping huge benefits out of this trend, but going global has its own perils are highlighted by its critics on parallel footing.

Globalized trend has generated enormous advantages for all societies and has helped them earn visibility and acceptance across the world. Due to this people are getting to know each other more closely and are readily accepting the diversity and difference of opinions. This has created a surprising harmony among people as they celebrate happiness and share sorrows on common platforms and with same fervor.

Besides the harmony among the global citizens, globalization is also bringing in advantages in form of the parallel economic opportunities for people across the globe as people are easily able to traverse through countries in search of jobs and get better compensations for their skills. Education has also received a big boost and the people residing in poorer countries are able to access the educational avenues in developed countries with an unprecedented freedom.

On the contrary, the critics to the theory of going global fear that this phenomena brings in bad news for weaker economies as more developed and advanced economies are easily able to suppress industrial potential of poorer countries and instead create niche for their products and services in the developing nations ultimately annihilating the business talent of financially weaker economies.

In my opinion, even though, globalization has some serious drawbacks but as this trend has opened many new horizons for the betterment and development of human society by creating venues for pooling talents and resources and harnessing them in achievement of common objectives.
