Some argue that teachers should focus on academics more than motivating students. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In the contemporary education system, there has been a profound debate whether tutors should prioritize formal curriculum over persuading learning, or not. This essay shall examine both prospectives, and provide a plausible conclusion.

To embark upon the discussion, allocating precedence to the study plan is crucial:  the primary objective of education is to foster and perpetuate structured knowledge, and intellectual abilities. Moreover, educators are responsible for ensuring that learners comprehend core subjects such as mathematics, science and technology, among others, that render a solid plinth for their future occupational endeavors. Those, for instance, preparing for competitive exams rely heavily on clear conceptual teaching rather than mere encouragement. Without a rigorous academic focus, pupils may lack competence required to succeed in standardized assessments, often used as benchmarks of educational achievement.

Notwithstanding the former notion indeed, encouragement plays an important role in determining effectivity of  the grasping levels, and retention capabilities. Similarly, even well-structured lessons could possibly fail if pupils were disenchanted. A motivating tutor could engender curiosity, encourage participation, and foster a positive learning environment, all of which contribute to better academic outcomes. To exemplify, youngsters are more likely to excel in subjects taught by enthusiastic teachers who make education engaging, despite the subject being challenging. Apart from that, motivation often helps develop a long term interest in learning, and pushes one to explore varied topics beyond the classroom, helping one become independent learners, a critical requirement in the competitive world.

In the end, although paying more attention to the syllabus may be pivotal to fruitful education, persuasion enhances learning efficiency and student engagement. Thus, tutors should strive to maintain a balance between delivering high level educational content, and inspiring students, as both elements are essential for holistic scholastic development.

A common perception that educators are responsible for delivering syllabus rather than persuading learners, evokes mixed responses: while some support this, others reject it. The following paragraphs shall profoundly delve into this matter and share a logical conclusion.

To start with, undeniably, academic knowledge always provides a strong foundation, which is essential in shaping the future of the learners. Those with a commendable education track record are always preferred when seeking opportunities in higher education, like appearing for competitive exams, or enrolling in renowned universities and colleges. To illustrate, those being exposed to strict academic pursuit while in school, are able to crack competitive exams like GMAT, effortlessly. Not only this, they can develop invaluable academic skills, besides traits such as public speaking, problem-solving, and critical thinking, to name a few, helping them settle in their desired careers successfully.

However, those skeptical about this approach assert that encouraging young learners is equally important. Motivated learners tend to be more attentive, curious, and creative. They always try to think out of the box, to learn new skills and subject matter. Moreover, it is a natural phenomenon when educators inspire young minds, they are instilling critical traits of perseverance in them, keeping them positive till the completion of the task and not surrendering when faced with small debacles and hurdles.  A study has shown that when people are persuaded to keep going, they become enthusiastic in chasing their goals, and they influence their classmates too, by creating a positive environment around them.

To recap, a balanced approach is recommended: it  can do wonders in tailoring the future of children by laying a strong foundation of education, inspiring them to pursue their objectives enthusiastically, something pivotal to attain pinnacles in life.

There is a profound debate raging among varied sections of society about whether teachers should prioritise education over motivation. Some subscribe to the notion that the focus should be on academic syllabus and not on acting as motivators, while others dissent. I will critically analyze this matter in the following paragraphs and share my opinion about it.

Undeniably, there is profound debate raging among varied sections about whether academics should be prioritized over encouraging students. Some subscribe to this notion, while others dissent. I will critically analyze this matter in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, some professes that teachers are the main pillar in helping carve the careers of students: they build the educational foundations by disseminating the syllabus containing the deep knowledge of the world. Therefore, imparting knowledge for academics makes youngsters accomplish their task to fulfill the needs of their future career which is based on academics only. Moreover, students must know that learning all subjects will persuade them to compete among themselves, and excel. Also, it is imperative to keep academics on the top since only this can inculcate knowledge about professional domains, helping learners discover their interest areas, such as healthcare, engineering and IT, to name a few.

Nevertheless, there is another lobby that opposes the former notion and asserts that educators must don the role of mentors, along with delivering scholastic knowledge: this can assist even the average performers to try to harness their abilities, get clarifications and augment their performance, prevent them from abandoning education, a common feature and growing concern in several countries, where pupils are dissuaded from continuing schooling due to poor academic performance. Likewise,  this can also help them discover their latent talents. Several accomplished people like APJ Abdul Kalam Azad, the former president of India, credited his achievements to the guidance rendered by his teacher.

To capitulate, I vehemently align myself with the view that teaching professionals must not overlook any aspect of their job: delivering subject knowledge can help foster acumen required for later life as adults, while mentorship can assist learners to continue despite facing pressures.

Should tutors solely prioritize delivering academic content and ignore persuasion of learners?

Why focus only on imparting lessons?

  • The job of educators, as per modern theorists,  is to only engage with scholastic abilities of learners

  • This can help them to effectively cover the syllabus and also revise, and test the learners

Motivation is a critical part of teaching

  • Schooling means overall development and teachers are the agent of this process

  • This can inspire behavior change

  • Persuasion by teachers is pivotal to excellent academic outcomes

  • This can motivate learners to attend schools, enhancing interest in schooling and education

  • Let learners discover their latent talents and strengths

While some say that the role of tutors should be confined to only delivering the syllabus, and exclude the task of acting as motivators, I strongly detest this, and find this suggestion lacking in substance.

Those advocating this policy feel that a faculty must only commit themselves to planning and disseminating lessons; this will help them to structure their classroom sessions better, and ensure timely delivery of all the topics included in the study plan without distraction, and leaving them with ample time for revision, and testing pupils, allowing assessment of abilities more objectively, polishing scholastic acumen, of learners, critically needed to progress professionally.

However, if this  system were to deployed, the fundamental purpose  - that transcends the mere imparting of the bookish knowledge - of  schooling would be defeated; it is the sole medium of ensuring all round development of the persona of learners that goes beyond the scholastic dexterity, and also guarantees inculcating a positive approach towards life through fostering and promoting change in behavior, and perceptions towards surroundings, and educators are the primary agents of this process.

Similarly, teaching professionals are the only source in the outer world that can help students discover their latent talent, and inspire them to develop capabilities to pursue their goals in various domains: academics, personal, social and professional. To illustrate, several successful personalities, such as Ellon Musk and APJ Abdul Kalam Azad credit their achievements to their teachers who besides tutoring them, also took up the roles of mentors, helping them chart a certain course in life.

In hindsight, the role of those engaged in teaching cannot be limited to simply preparing their audience academically, for they have access to the capabilities of students, and thus can persuade the latter,  using this knowledge, successfully.

Introduction 1

The debate surrounding the role of tutors in education is the most heated, with some proposing that these professionals should only invest their efforts into only delivering the syllabus and avoid acting as motivators, while others highlight the critical role these individuals can play in helping learners bring out their best. The latter view is more convincing and supported by various facts.

Introduction 2

The modern school of thought proposes that tutors must only invest their efforts into delivering the syllabus, and not act as motivators. In my opinion, this suggestion lacks substance, and thus, cannot be accepted in any measure.

Should educators only prioritize delivery of syllabus and overlook their roles as mentors, is a matter that evokes mixed responses. I feel this matter needs a profound analysis before delivering a well-reasoned verdict.

Some  say that the role of tutors should be confined to only delivering the syllabus, and exclude the task of acting as motivators. This notion can be challenged on various grounds.
