Nowadays we are creating more and more rubbish. Why do you think this is happening ? What can the government do to help reduce the amount of rubbish produced? Give reasons for your answers and give relevant examples from your experiences.

Nowadays, trash is being produced on a large scale. The major attributes contributing towards this phenomenon majorly is industrialization. This essay will discuss the factors ascribing to this phenomenon and suggest measures the state can adopt to mitigate this environmental complication.

One of the primary factors fuelling this trend is the expanding industrial footprint with factories being set-up worldwide. As consumer demands for quality surge, manufacturing has rapidly responded by integrating refining processes, precipitating colossal residue, especially in the pharmaceutical and food sector, that is rarely recycled and discarded without being reprocessed, resulting in piling up of the garbage. Furthermore, the situation is exacerbated by the soaring application of single-use plastics for packing, storing and carrying: this material is dumped after it has met its objective. For example, as per studies by WHO, nearly seventy percent of landfills, across the world, are filled up with this non-biodegradable material, and are likely to add more in following decades.

These issues can be addressed provided policymakers espouse and promote judicious waste management. They are vested with powers to formulate  policies to protect the planet: implementing strict regulations to control industrial waste, and ensuring that companies follow proper waste management practices, and retributing the non-complying offenders by imposing levies and penalties on them. Additionally, they also have the  resources to support such long term initiatives: supporting research to discover methods to alleviate refuse generation at the manufacturing level itself; and spreading awareness and promoting sustainable and environmentally-friendly products to deal with the issue at large.

In conclusion, the amassing of rubbish is mainly an outcome of industrial growth and rising demand for better quality, besides incrementing use of plastics. However, through stringent regulations, promotion of sustainable practices, and public awareness initiatives, law makers can effectively discourage waste generation.

Some people believe that manufacturers and supermarkets should minimize the packaging of material used. However, others think that consumers should avoid heavily packaged goods. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Some people believe that manufacturers and supermarkets should minimize the packaging of material used. However, others think that consumers should avoid heavily packaged goods. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

There has been a profound debate on mitigating surfeit packing being used on goods by producers and grocery stores: while some believe this practice should be halted at the manufacturing end, others are of the opinion that consumers should boycott such goods.

Some suggest that the onus of stopping this unsustainable practice should be borne by those engaged in producing and selling: this would help nip the evil in its bud. With the increasing competition many brands  have reported overpacking their merchandise to make it look more eye-catching. However, customers are least affected by the attractiveness of the wrapping, and admit as per several studies that they are primarily concerned with the content rather than how the packing looks. Furthermore, this will help preserve natural resources that are exploited to create packing, and also alleviate pollution caused by burning of fossil fuels while producing material to wrap products.

However, consumers should also pay close attention towards details and must opt for goods that are not heavily packaged because if they boycott such goods, retailers and manufacturers would be forced to reduce their production, for they would not want their goods to remain unsold and cause them losses. Moreover, customers play a crucial role in setting market trends, and thus, with them opting for more sustainably-packed  products, producers and retailers would shift towards prudent packaging policies. For instance, a majority of people in Denmark avoided stores that sold goods in non-biodegradable  packaging in 2008, which compelled the businesses to abandon this system, and embrace eco-friendly policies.

In conclusion, although consumers can influence the market by making responsible choices, manufacturers and retailers hold greater responsibility in reducing excessive packaging. Therefore, a combined effort from both producers and consumers is essential to effectively tackle the challenge of over-packaging.

Politicians are more responsible for the environment than individuals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some believe that policymakers should be more concerned towards the protection and conservation of the ecology, while others argue that citizens should also don the mantle. I partially agree with this idea, as although the former plays a major role in negotiating this pressing task, it cannot be achieved  without the support of the latter.

Many believe that law makers have been elected, and vested with powers to formulate  policies to protect the planet, and render hospitable surroundings to the populace, and thus, it is their obligation to sustain livable conditions. Moreover, they enjoy jurisdiction and the resources to support such long term initiatives, something out of bounds for common people. They can deploy laws to regulate activities and functions of businesses and households that can disrupt ecological balance. To corroborate, stringent emissions norms have been successfully used by regimes across the world that have led to decline in release of pollutants from the industry and domestic sector.

However, governments alone cannot be made to bear this burden, citizens must also play their part; they are the ultimate root cause behind the deterioration of the environment. Hence, it becomes their responsibility to act prudently to undo the harm they have done to the planet. In addition, if they choose to take ownership of their surroundings and act prudently: conduct cleanliness and tree plantation drives, and so forth, in their residential areas; and create awareness while inspiring others through their actions, the upcoming generation will incorporate sustainable ways of life as a ritual, nipping the evil its bud.

In conclusion, despite the state boasting of power to frame policies, in my perspective erecting safeguards to buttress the ecological vitality is a joint responsibility and must be borne by everyone, regardless of whether ruling or being ruled.

In recent years, there has been a significant decline in the diversity of plant and animal species across numerous countries. What are the potential causes of this issue? How can we mitigate it?

In recent years, there has been a significant decline in the diversity of plant and animal species across numerous countries. What are the potential causes of this issue? How can we mitigate it?

Of late,  a significant decline in biodiversity has been observed world over. This can be attributed to myriad reasons: human endeavors, making it imperative to discover remedies to preserve this ecologically critical factor.

The primary cause of shrinking range of flora and fauna is the loss of habitat caused by deforestation. Diminishing forest cover prompted by urban, industrial, and agricultural expansion, is pushing numerous species into oblivion: with some becoming extinct. Incrementing population has resulted in speeding up industrialisation, posing an immense pressure on the ecosystem. Similarly, illegal hunting and exploitation of flora are adding to complications: animals are killed for their body parts, and trees are cut for their valuable produce like sandalwood.

Moreover, the things are exacerbated by pollution engendered by industrial waste and effluents  causing soil enervation and destruction of marine and land-based habitats. Moreover, pollution has resulted in global warming, greatly contributing to extreme weather conditions and abrupt climate shifts, making it hard for these organisms to survive in such harsh conditions.

This catastrophic trend can be countered using a variety of prudent methods at micro and macro levels. Governments should create sanctuaries to preserve green and natural habitats. Additionally, strict laws should be implemented to curtail unlawful activities: poaching, and perpetrators should be penalised severely. Furthermore, sustainable development should be promoted through campaigns and encouraging everyone to become responsible citizens. Likewise, waste produced by manufacturing units should be thoroughly monitored, and industry should be stipulated  to comply with environmental norms and install and upgrade waste treatment facilities and technology. These coherent steps can help avert inevitable disaster.

In conclusion, the alarming decline in biodiversity is driven by increasing industrialisation and global warming, and  mankind is the primary culprit. However, judicious measures and initiatives can help protect and restore versatile habitats.

Most pollution, especially air and water pollution, is caused by industry. If we want to protect the environment, we should make factories and other forms of industry pay of all the pollution that they cause. That is the only way to make sure that the owners will make a serious effort to reduce the pollution that they cause. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

If we want to protect the environment, we should make factories and other forms of industry pay of all the pollution that they cause. That is the only way to make sure that the owners will make a serious effort to reduce the pollution that they cause. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Although some believe that taxing manufacturing units alone can act as a reliable medium of coaxing them to switch to greener technologies, this is highly questionable: it is prone to failure. I believe there are more potent tools of convincing manufacturers to act.

Those advocating environmental tariffs found their argument on the assumption that this move would make the produce expensive, and thus uncompetitive, forcing organizations to spring into action and embrace eco-friendly methods. However, these enthusiastic lobbyists conveniently disregard  an infallible fact that the pollution is not the outcome of an isolated exception, but the industry as a whole, and every manufacturer will espouse evasive strategies. They will compromise with the quality and quantity, and shift the extra burden to the end users, turning the policy ineffective.

Nevertheless, the need of the hour is to find remedies that can produce tangible outcomes rather than just doing lip service. It is essential to engage businesses by making them partners in the endeavors aimed at ensuring a sustainable environment, and this goal can be achieved if they are made stakeholders in research projects that target discovery of environmentally-friendly fuels, manufacturing techniques, and waste disposal policies.

Similarly, affording monetary stimulus, in the form of tax holidays and rebates, subsidies and support funding, can do wonders in convincing companies to take ownership, and make efforts to phase out old unsustainable and unviable technologies and equipment, and replace them with environmentally-sound procedures and processes. This system has been welcomed by industrialists in countries like China and Germany, for it is a persuasive rather than a punitive measure.

In hindsight, taxation is likely to encourage the industry to resort to unfair means, but partnering with them, besides extending financial inducements, will provoke honest and devoted efforts for environmental protection.

Global warming is one of the biggest threats humans face in the 21st Century and sea levels are continuing to rise at alarming rates. What problems are associated with this and what are some possible solutions?

Dramatically-incrementing temperatures pose a significant threat to humanity, especially in the current century, as it contributes to rising sea levels, extreme weather patterns and ecological imbalance. This has precipitated major concerns for coastal communities and nations around the world. I would like to discuss problems associated with this phenomenon and propose remedies.

One of the most concerning complications of this phenomenon: the rising sea levels presented is the displacement of millions of habitats in low lying coastal areas. These  regions are increasingly at risk of flooding, leading to loss of homes, infrastructure and livelihoods. Countries like Bangladesh and islands, such as Maldives, are particularly vulnerable to this threat. In the long run, this could lead to mass migrations, creating a humanitarian crisis as people will seek refuge in safer areas. In addition, this has also precipitated distortion in weather patterns such as typhoons and storm surges. These events can cause widespread damage to cities and agricultural lands, threatening food security and economic stability in many regions.

However, there are several potential antidotes to these menacing circumstances: alleviating greenhouse gas emissions, the primary driver of global warming, holds the key. Renewable  energy sources such as solar wind, and hydropower, should be prioritized and quickly supersede fossil fuels. Moreover, investing in more reliant infrastructure to withstand flooding tides can help. Coastal cities can build seawalls, levees and other protective structures to prevent flooding. Additionally, sustainable urban planning strategies should be adopted such as, restricting construction in flood prone areas, and implementing green infrastructure like parks and wetlands to absorb excess water.

In conclusion, the increasing influence of greenhouse effects presents serious challenges, from displacing populations to impacting economies. Thus, a combination of steps like emission reduction and sustainable development should be embraced to mitigate these impacts.

Some believe that tackling environmental issues should be managed by a global organization instead of being handled individually by national governments. Do you agree or disagree with this belief?

Some believe that tackling environmental issues should be managed by a global organization instead of being handled individually by national governments.

Do you agree or disagree with this belief?

Why a universal approach?

  • Environmental problems transcend political and geographical borders, and must be responded jointly

  • There is uneven distribution of resources, which could create an imbalance in implementation, but an international body can effectively bridge this void

  • A global approach can help resolve differences between different nations and engender cooperation

Why locally?

  • National governments are better informed about the complications affecting local populations

  • Decision making fast

  • There is a lack of trust between the the prosperous and destitute nations, the latter fear that the former may try to impede their development in the name of development

The fast deteriorating health of the planet has drawn a profound interest in finding ways to alleviate this threat, and a majority believes that a task of such multitude requires international action. I subscribe to this notion because such a critical job cannot be negotiated effectively at the regional level.

Undeniably,  pollution transcends geographical and political boundaries and has a domino effect on other areas miles away, sometimes continents apart, from the source. This is likely to impact all forms of life far and wide, and jeopardize people, flora, and fauna. To corroborate, the arctic is getting contaminated by the residue of industrial effluents released from thousands of miles away in Egypt, India, and China, among others, killing the plankton, a food source of myriads species of fish. Such complications must be handled jointly by all countries if any tangible outcomes are to be achieved.

Similarly, individual undertakings aimed at resolving the environmental imbroglio will certainly  be hampered by uneven distribution of resources and expertise while elite societies have these at their disposal, the impoverished lack these. However, global cooperation can help make available essential elements and ingredients to enable discovery and deployment of mitigation tools and strategies

Nevertheless, although the skeptic lobby does raise its concerns regarding the developed nations overwhelming their underdeveloped counterparts to push their agenda of gaining control over the latter, these fears are unfounded and lack substance; the consequences of inhospitable environment will affect everyone in equal measure, and will be more pronounced in destitute countries owing to absence of mechanism to offset the environmental impact.

In hindsight, taking steps to avert ecological catastrophe should be the onus of a multilateral world body as only it can engender policies to enable concerted efforts from every part of the globe.

Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective?

Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective?

Amplifying environmental consciousness has prompted a suggestion about tackling rising traffic congestion and pollution through costly fuel. I completely disagree with this proposal and shall discuss the other plausible steps that can aid surmounting these issues.

To start with, it is wrongly assumed that by making propellants dearer would  dissuade a majority from purchasing petrol-driven vehicles; it would pose an unbearable economic burden, especially on the lower and middle income groups. Consequently, decreasing the number of cars on the road, easing traffic density, and eventually, mitigating emissions

However, those cynical of this suggestion assert that such initiatives lack substance and viability. There are areas sans public transport, due lack of proper roads, forcing people to use personal vehicles for commutes everyday, and thus, expensive fuel will only add to their woes, raising their expenditure. Moreover, the elite  - the majority users of personal four wheelers - will remain unaffected with higher prices, and will continue to buy fossil fuel driven vehicles, and a negligible minority of lower and middle income groups will face the wrath instead.

There are a few practical measures that can be considered to surmount this pressing challenge. Investments  in better infrastructure: roads, which could connect most parts of urban locales effectively, can create motivation to forgo their own and switch to mass transit. Additionally, campaigns could be launched at various levels to engender enlightenment about the ramifications of pollution, and encourage resorting to public commutes and carpooling.

To conclude, one cannot be lop-sided and push through impractical approaches. Many locations lack connectivity due to absence of roads, and such a proposal will not influence the affluent. The solution lies in investing into building roads, launching campaigns,  and stimulating participation from the society can aid in overcoming this challenge.

As countries develop and people’s standard of living improves, environmental damage naturally increases and cannot be completely avoided. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

As countries develop and people’s standard of living improves, environmental damage naturally increases and cannot be completely avoided. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In the contemporary era, many are inclined towards better living standards, which has myriad implications on nature and the global environment. However, I fail to subscribe to this notion because advanced technology and awareness can play a significant role in protecting the earth.

To commence with, improvement in living standards has incremented needs in all aspects, such as food production, urban infrastructural development, and setting up industries and projects to meet all demands. This has increased the demand of rural and urban land to accommodate housings, factories, ports, food industries, and so forth, thereby resulting in deforestation, releasing carbon, creating pollution not only in air, but water, and land, affecting the overall environment adversely. For instance, many developing cities like Delhi, are facing humongous air pollution due to a surge in the number of vehicles on roads and increased demand for industrialisation.

However, these environmental damages can be controlled by various state-of-the-art methods and practices, government intervention plays a crucial role here, strict regulations towards recycling and reuse holds great promises for safeguarding the environment from reckless abuse of natural resources. This will allow enhancements in the quality of life without impacting the environment. Additionally, usage of solar and wind power, sustainable building infrastructures and materials will reduce the demand of natural resources, as well as render all necessary comforts and commodities necessary for human consumption. For example, governments of Asian countries are promoting solar power for their residential buildings to alleviate the production of electricity and encouraging environmental awareness.

To conclude, better living standards can be achieved by awareness among the people and policy makers, sustainable concepts, stricter guidelines for manufacturing industries for pollution mitigation, these introductions methods will definitely control the damage to the environment.

Environmental problems such as pollution and climate change affect all the people in the world. Although global decisions are made to reduce these problems, the solutions are not effective. Why are the solutions ineffective? How can these problems be solved?

Environmental problems such as pollution and climate change affect all the people in the world. Although global decisions are made to reduce these problems, the solutions are not effective. Why are the solutions ineffective? How can these problems be solved?

Problem stems from following reasons: (why are solutions ineffective)

  • Ever rising population which must be provided with the facilities and thus, the situation continues as it is
  • The democratically states fear earning the wrath/ anger of their  constituents: applying those solutions might mean penalizing their own people.
  • The governments also do not want to risk economic performance: implementing decisions might lead to closing down of factories and offices, this will not only impact employment but also economic productivity.
  • There is lack of knowledge and expertise
  • There is a lack of trust among nations: many poor nations feel that these decisions have been taken by rich countries to impede the development

Ways out

  • Allocating responsibility to each nation and also installing a system of credits to the countries that comply with
  • Sharing of technology
  • Penalizing and boycotting the countries that fail to adhere to norms.

All global efforts invested into meeting the challenges facing the planet posed by pollution have comprehensibly failed to produce any tangible outcomes. This can be attributed to several reasons, and it is imperative to discover plausible solutions to surmount this complication.

The implementation of international action such as the Paris Resolution, to counter environmental deterioration is marred by unwillingness of governments to apply the universally adopted resolutions, locally. They are either compelled by the need to fulfill the requirements: food, shelter, and clothing, of the ever-rising population - coercing them to put environmental concerns on the back seat, or forced to put all actions on hold, out of the fear that embracing such policies might hamper economy quite severely, and creating joblessness.

Similarly, a great imbalance in the distribution of resources and expertise required to resolve this imbroglio is also partly to blame. While the elite nations have access to technologies and money needed to deploy for climate mitigation, the underdeveloped societies face a deep dearth of these, and to exacerbate the situation, the cooperation between both the lobbies is missing.

Although the panacea for this situation is not readily available, things can be improved by enhancing collaboration, and taking joint responsibility for addressing issues arising out of current circumstances. Technology transfer and liberal access to resources for all, can help persuade every nation to switch to greener technologies and methods. Additionally, every inhabitant of the earth should be apprised about surroundings becoming inhospitable for future generations in case the current occupants fail to respond to concurrent problems.

In hindsight, deriving intended results from universal  endeavors aimed at resolving the environmental puzzle is contingent on closer cooperation at the international level and engendering pragmatic foresight about imminent catastrophe awaiting humanity, in case warnings are disregarded.

Politicians are more responsible for the protection of the environment than individuals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Politicians are more responsible for the protection of the environment than individuals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

When it comes to protecting the planet it is said that policy makers are the ones who have a greater responsibility to undertake this endeavor than citizens. I partially agree with the notion and believe the change can only happen when both the parties contribute to this critical task,  and shall elaborate my stand in the following paragraphs.

To start with, those watching the role of policy makers feel that they can make the changes to preserve the ecology by making various laws, and everyone  will follow this without questions, having a wider impact on the populace and surroundings; no one will be prepared to face the wrath of authorities. For example; Indian government prohibited mining on the outskirts of New Delhi, and imposed heavy penalties on offenders. Consequently, this activity was completely halted, helping protect the natural ecology of the region. Similarly the government has the resources like money and expertise to save the atmosphere.

Nevertheless, some believe that it is not only the state that should don the mantle of this essential mission, citizens should also come forward  because the damage that has already been done cannot be undone by a single entity, but can only be cured if all will join hands and work for the betterment. To illustrate, any law cannot take effect unless inhabitants comply with those and adopt sustainable practices. They  are the root cause of all the mess: they are cutting down trees, using and littering plastic, burning fossil fuel, and so on. Thus, they must also share the onus.

In hindsight, disputes aside,  saving the planet for future generations cannot be a task that should be negotiated by only the state, it is necessary for inhabitants of a country to contribute in equal measures.

Some people say industrial growth is necessary to solve poverty, while some believe it should be stopped due to the environmental problem it creates. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Some people say industrial growth is necessary to solve poverty, while some believe it should be stopped due to the environmental problem it creates. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Incrementing environmental challenges are becoming central to every future planning, prompting a proposal that further industrial progress should be halted in order to safeguard the planet, but propose continuing it to help in upliftment of the deprived. However, I believe a balanced approach will be more suitable  for a sustainable future

Industrial advancement is helping create more jobs for disparate skills, ensuring a steady income for the needy, and aiding them in meeting their basic needs. Additionally, this is facilitating boosting production and discovery of new technologies. Growing economies allow governments to amass resources to support improvements in amenities and infrastructure, besides research into discovering greener technologies and  fuels that hold great promises for a safe future of the environment. Thus, expanding industrial footprint is critical to meet the needs of mankind and sustain ecological vitality.

Nevertheless, nowadays, environmental complications have surged owing to deforestation. The planet is being denuded to create space for industrial farms, factories, which is releasing carbon dioxide into the air, and speeding up global warming. Similarly, effluents from industry and other sectors are polluting all spheres of the environment, affecting land-based  and   marine life: fish and other animals die because of chemicals and plastic. Similarly, humans are also being affected adversely due to the contamination caused by chemical fertilizers and  waste: they are becoming vulnerable to several diseases like diarrhoea, and skin infections. These factors support the suggestion that it is necessary to decelerate industrial progress for a larger good of the planet.

Overall, undeniably, growth in manufacturing industries creates jobs, but it has also engendered myriad environmental issues which can prove to be catastrophic. Nevertheless,  a turnaround is only possible with further advancement. Thus, striking a balance between both the aspects will ensure a hospitable environment and better lifestyles.

Most people don’t care about environmental issues. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Most people don’t care about environmental issues. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Environmental issues have become a major concern nowadays. Some argue that a majority is indifferent towards these challenges, while others reject it. I will analyse this matter critically and share my viewpoint in upcoming paragraphs.

A significant portion of the population neglects the imbroglio facing the planet, and prioritizes short term gains. To corroborate, despite knowing that plastic has been prohibited owing to the jeopardy it presents to nature and human health, many use it to save money and circumvent inconvenience. Similarly, in cities like Delhi, rampant deforestation is  leading to poor air quality, but many still prefer living in low-rise buildings. Likewise, mindless littering is affecting the surroundings , and making things difficult for others, and animals and birds. To illustrate, disposing of plastic bags around without a second thought is a common urban malady, often consumed by oblivious animals that perish, or it enters the marine environment, menacing marine life.

However, there is still hope: a growing number have started actively participating in campaigns, webinars, educational programmes to spread enlightenment about the plight of the planet, and the need to embrace eco-friendly methods: recycling, and so forth. Moreover, volunteering in neighborhoods to collect plastic garbage, execute community clean up drives, and plant trees is becoming common. For example, “Seed” , an organisation led by youngsters, is tirelessly working in various cities of India, collecting plastic trash for recycling or incineration, and has recently achieved a tremendous feat: it was involved in planting 96,000 saplings in Delhi NCR region last year, raising hopes for climate mitigation.

In hindsight, undoubtedly some are apathetic towards the earth, but one cannot ignore the fact that many are making significant differences by adapting to eco-friendly methods, creating awareness and implementing strategies to surmount challenges.

Damage to the environment is an inevitable consequence of worldwide improvements in the standard of living. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Damage to the environment is an inevitable consequence of worldwide improvements in the standard of living. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Is rapid strivings for lodging development to improve quality of life causing environmental damage

Yes?

  • Large scale deforestation is taking place to create  spaces for farming, residential units, commercial complexes and industry - causing a loss in natural habitats: the forests act as lungs for the planet and their clearing is reducing the capability of the environment to recycle the air.

  • There is humongous pollution in all spheres of environment

- air due to smoke from factories,  vehicles, and household

           appliances

- Water bodies are being polluted due to discharge of contaminated

water from industries, farms and households

- plastic that is driving modern lifestyles is choking the planet

  • Reckless milking of nature to fuel industry

No

  • The recent developments in technology are ensuring improvements in environment - use of non-fossil fuel energy source is improving air quality

  • Introduction of concepts like vertical farming and vertical cities is helping restore green cover

  • Recycling is helping slow down exploitation of natural resources.

While historically forays for economic development have led to surge in pollution and resource depletion, I believe that sustainable technologies and strict policies can significantly mitigate environmental harm, detaching further advancement from abuse of ecology.

Admittedly, as countries become more prosperous, consumption levels tend to increase. Higher incomes often lead to greater demand for private vehicles, modern housing, electricity, and manufactured goods. This surge in production and consumption can result in deforestation, air pollution, and excessive waste. For example, rapidly developing nations have experienced severe air quality issues due to industrial expansion. and increased fossil fuel usage. In this sense, economic advancement has traditionally come at the expense of the natural environment.

However, as per researchers, environmental harm is no more a consequence of improved living standards. Many developed countries have demonstrated that economic growth can coexist with environmental sustainability. By investing in renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, efforts are being made to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining economic productivity. Furthermore, stricter environmental regulations, waste management systems, and public awareness campaigns encourage responsible consumption. Likewise,  technological innovations, including electric vehicles and energy-efficient buildings, also play a crucial role in minimising ecological damage.

In addition, the concept of sustainable development emphasises meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their ends by conserving the resources and alleviating environmental deterioration. Prioritising green policies, and ensuring businesses adopting   environmentally friendly practices, can help improve quality of life without irreversibly harming the planet.

In conclusion, although rising living standards have historically contributed to environmental problems, I firmly believe that such damage is not unavoidable. Through strategic planning, technological advancement, and global cooperation, economic development can be achieved in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner.

Many countries today are experiencing problems associated with noise pollution (excessive noise above a normal background noise).  What are the causes of this phenomenon, and what effects does it have on the people affected?

The contemporary world is facing a new form of pollution emanating from noise, primarily due to human activities such as traffic congestion, construction, loud music, and so forth. The affected populace faces physical and psychological health risks. In the following paragraph, I will discuss the reasons and how it harms individuals and society.

To commence with, the primary  cause of increased decibel levels is traffic chaos caused by cars, trucks, trains and aircraft occurring owing to horns, engine sounds, especially in urban areas. As per studies, most modern urban locales are exposed to  ceaseless deafening humming of vehicles and blaring sounds of airplanes flying over cities.  Moreover, factories and construction sites, where heavy machinery is used: generators, cranes and drilling equipment,   create intense loud sound throughout the day. Moreover, in weddings, festivals, parties and other events, people often play music at deafening volumes, making the surroundings noisy.

Consequently, this pollution affects people profoundly in a myriad of ways, prolonged exposure to loud noise can lead to tinnitus, and later result in  loss of hearing ability, particularly the vulnerable sector, including juvenile, the elderly and pregnant women. In extreme cases, it can lead to hospitalization. Additionally, it raises stress levels and causes anxiety in every age group. In 2023, a study conducted in  Northumberland Hills hospital   found that loud noises were one of the common reasons for frustration, stress among children. Furthermore, high pitch sounds affect students detrimentally as they are unable to focus properly on their studies; consequently their grades in exams suffer.

In conclusion, noise pollution is mainly caused by transport, industrial and commercial activity, and irresponsible behavior of households, and is harmful for physical and mental well being. Therefore, governments should take appropriate action by imposing fines and making strict laws against it.

A general perception is emerging among the environmentally conscious that further progress  should be halted, while others believe that advancement is critical to alleviate impoverishment. This essay will discuss both sides and share a plausible opinion.

An army of people propounds that the planet is facing a serious threat from every industrial activity. This is to say, fumes from every commercial endeavor are polluting the air by releasing a colossal amount of carbon dioxide, precipitating detrimental health concerns: asthma, lung infection, and many more. Additionally, the waste from manufacturing is being dumped into the water bodies, jeopardizing marine life by contaminating the water. For example, in Australia, the Great Barrier Reef and its underwater animals are on the verge of extinction since it has become a dumping ground for industrial waste.

However, businesses: fishing, mining, transportation and so on, are the largest supporters of employment.  They provide jobs to thousands, especially to the younger generation; consequently, augmenting the employment index and eradicating poverty. Moreover, such growth strengthens economies, enabling regimes to invest in public services: healthcare, and education; consequently, improving the overall standard of living.

Additionally, the key to resolving ecological imbroglio lies in accelerating development and not impeding it: the furtherance is bolstering research and exploration of the innovative technologies and methods that hold great promises for mitigating environment complications such as greener fuels, eco-friendly agricultural practices like vertical farming, and introduction of vertical city concepts that support rewilding. These will not only protect the planet but also afford economic opportunities.

To conclude, although the concerns expressed by the environment lobby are valid, it is hard to walk forward looking backward. The panacea for the resolution of menace facing the earth does not lie in curtailing progress but in rendering it impetus.

Nowadays we are creating more and more rubbish. Why do you think this is happening? What can Governments do to help reduce the amount of rubbish produced? Give reasons for your answers and give relevant examples from your experience?

Undeniably, it has always been a pressing concern among societies regarding the increment of garbage. There are multiple reasons for this trend, but policy makers can play a pivotal role in controlling it. I shall analyze causes and remedies in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, a school of thought opines that the rising amount of refuse is due to umpteen reasons:  people are quite busy in their daily routines, and do not pay attention towards cleanliness. They are not much aware about the side-effects of having garbage spread outside their homes.  Beside these, industries keep on manufacturing plastic bottles as there is a high demand for these; people tend to consume them more and discard them without reusing them. Moreover,  businesses try to refine their products,  and in an attempt, they produce more residue that is discharged without being recycled.

To surmount/overcome  this challenge, environmental authorities can take initiatives to control hazardous problems:  enlightening citizens about the benefits of clean surroundings through advertising and campaigns,  and disseminating information about taking necessary actions to halt spreading waste and control over plastic usage, and more importantly recycling, so that the public can become aware of the relevance of this practice in preventing the proliferation of waste. .

Furthermore, policy makers should levy excessive taxes on the manufacturing of plastic products; as a result, industries would minimize the production and start taking this seriously. For instance, a survey conducted by the California environmental department revealed that eighty percent of the population has stopped spreading wastage after taxes imposed upon them.

To capitulate, I vehemently profess that the public and government both are equally responsible to reduce the waste and sustain nature. If they can work together, they would get an appropriate result for the safe and clean environment

Politicians are more responsible for the protection of the environment than individuals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Politicians are more responsible for the protection of the environment than individuals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some profess that it is the responsibility of the state to preserve nature, while some are with the notion that this is the collective effort, the public at large should intervene, as well. This essay shall delve deeper into this matter and emanate a partial agreement on this notion.

Those who uphold the opinion that it is the sole duty of the policy makers to take measures to ensure that the planet remains hospitable, feel that they are elected to take decisions on behalf of citizens, to afford a safe living condition, and life-supporting ecology forms one of those components; hence, it is their job to surmount this challenge.

Moreover, they have the jurisdiction to make policies and statutes to help mitigate destruction of the planet, and these laws are followed by the masses without reluctance;  as they are aware that non-compliance will fetch them severe consequences such as penal punishments, pushing them to environmentally  friendly practices.  Similarly,  lawmakers have a broader global perspective about this menace,  as well as resources to coordinate with other nations to develop strategies that can help reduce deterioration of the ecology.

However, some suggest that the power lies with individuals to make constant changes that protect nature: they are the foundation and a root cause of this imbroglio. Thus, they must share the onus. For instance,  if individuals, at their own devices,  adapt to using environmentally-friendly methods,  they will help engender sustainable methods at all levels, stimulating business to eco-friendly techniques.

To conclude, undeniably, regimes enjoy an overwhelming influence on citizens and have a profound knowledge of the causes and tools that can help mitigate environmental damage, nonetheless people cannot shirk away from sharing this responsibility, for they are the ones who can help make policies effective.

Nowadays the most important task is the environmental protection of our planet for future generations. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Nowadays the most important task is the environmental protection of our planet for future generations. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Yes. why?

  • The way planet is being stripped of its resources, it seems that upcoming generations will not have anything to use and survive

  • The pollution is rising dramatically and the surroundings are becoming toxic; if steps are not taken now, the next generation will be predisposed to a hostile environment

  • The planet does not belong to the current occupants: it is the legacy of ancestors and the real owners are the future inhabitants is a habitable condition

No. why?

  • Every generation has its own set of challenges and derives solutions according to the prevalent conditions, that’s why

    • It is important to address the contemporary issues such as poverty, making facilities available to all, so that a secure future can be ensured

In the modern world, some perceieve preserving the valuable resources for the succeeding generation, is a top most priority. I would critically analyze this notion, and share a plausible conclusion.

This  opinion is founded firmly on the belief that the way the pollution is rising dramatically,  and will affect the environment adversely if allowed to continue at the same speed, making it inhospitable for those populating this planet in some years from now. Thus,  not embracing steps for overcoming this menace will predispose descendants to harmful gasses: carbon dioxide, methane, and many more, and eventualy, life-threatening ailments. Moving further, overwhelming consumption of resources will leave nothing for tomorrow, and those living in those times will have to struggle to find material to survive.  Moreover,  it is essential to safeguard the resources as the planet does not belong to those living in the current, but it is the legacy of the ancestors, and the rightful owners are the children, and hence, it is obligatory to pass a liveable environment to them as it is.

However,  the skeptics dissent with the view that there are several critical issues such as poverty, and unemployment, among others, that are forcing the concurrent populace to suffer,  which cannot be ignored for the sake of future. Moreover, resolving current issues  will only guarantee sustenance of the hospitable environment.  Therefore, focussing on impediments currently facing society is essential, so that progress can be made in various areas to allow discovery of better survival mechanisms for tomorrow.

In hindsight, even though the concern is important for the future, the struggles of current occupants cannot be neglected. Therefore, the resources should be used according to the need without wasting. I feel that protecting the earth for tomorrow is important, but not at the cost of today
