Nowadays, trash is being produced on a large scale. The major attributes contributing towards this phenomenon majorly is industrialization. This essay will discuss the factors ascribing to this phenomenon and suggest measures the state can adopt to mitigate this environmental complication.

One of the primary factors fuelling this trend is the expanding industrial footprint with factories being set-up worldwide. As consumer demands for quality surge, manufacturing has rapidly responded by integrating refining processes, precipitating colossal residue, especially in the pharmaceutical and food sector, that is rarely recycled and discarded without being reprocessed, resulting in piling up of the garbage. Furthermore, the situation is exacerbated by the soaring application of single-use plastics for packing, storing and carrying: this material is dumped after it has met its objective. For example, as per studies by WHO, nearly seventy percent of landfills, across the world, are filled up with this non-biodegradable material, and are likely to add more in following decades.

These issues can be addressed provided policymakers espouse and promote judicious waste management. They are vested with powers to formulate  policies to protect the planet: implementing strict regulations to control industrial waste, and ensuring that companies follow proper waste management practices, and retributing the non-complying offenders by imposing levies and penalties on them. Additionally, they also have the  resources to support such long term initiatives: supporting research to discover methods to alleviate refuse generation at the manufacturing level itself; and spreading awareness and promoting sustainable and environmentally-friendly products to deal with the issue at large.

In conclusion, the amassing of rubbish is mainly an outcome of industrial growth and rising demand for better quality, besides incrementing use of plastics. However, through stringent regulations, promotion of sustainable practices, and public awareness initiatives, law makers can effectively discourage waste generation.
