When asked to choose between a life without work and working most of the time, people would always choose not to work. Do you agree or disagree?
Nowadays, it is commonly perceived when given a choice, most would opt for a life without professional engagement. I disagree with the notion, as I believe that people are much more workaholic than what they used to be.
A majority are more work-oriented than before, as stable jobs give purpose to their lives, and they feel motivated, and none wants to be plagued by a feeling of worthlessness, something that can affect their mental wellness. For example, many studies observe that those unemployed for long term, are afflicted by depression, and struggle with social isolation. Hence, to avoid such consequences, they keep themselves involved in some kind of occupation, in turn keeping them content in the longer run.
Moreover, another factor outrightly debunking this assumption is the rising number of educated individuals, especially females, across a cross-section of skills in diverse fields, giving rise to a generation of workaholics. This has invigorated professional ambitions, persuading investment of ample time in undertakings to guarantee acknowledgement and advancement, making one feel persuaded to consistently strive for their goals, leaving little time for disengagement from their work, or imagine staying away from it.
Similarly, the deeper penetration of educational facilities has encouraged many to engender and pursue their goals, and they relentlessly chase those without even needing a break. As per a study by MIT, with education - both primary and advanced - becoming affordable, a growing number, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds, are gaining qualifications in disparate trades appealing to them, and are enthusiastically chasing their dream careers than ever before.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that people nowadays are more willing to work rather than staying idle. This is not because of the monetary fulfillments but because of the resulting contentment and social respect working offers.
