Old people take a while to begin using new technology, such as mobile phones. Why do you think this is happening? Suggest ways to encourage them to use mobile phones and new technology for their benefit.

The advent of sophisticated devices has left senior citizens, the most vulnerable section, striving hard to take advantage of these. The following paragraph will discuss reasons attributing to this and elucidate panacea to surmount this challenge.

Some believe that elderly people are more comfortable with operating older equipment that runs on manual commands; is small in size and easier to access; and can be handled as per their convenience, but the modern ones are faster in operations and have complex functions, making it hard for the aged to familiarize with these. Moreover, by virtue of their failing health: slow reflexes, failing memory, weakening eyesight, and so on does not allow them to learn about using modern apparatus, thereby making them averse to concurrent technologies.

Additionally, they are recalcitrant about embracing the change as they ponder that they might become a butt of jokes if they commit any mistake, keeping them away from embracing contemporary gadgets. Furthermore, as they tend to forget things frequently, young members feel irritated, resulting in the latter becoming uncooperative with the former; creating a huge gap between newer applications and them.

Nevertheless, despite the presence of umpteen obstacles, a lobby sees a ray of hope, and suggests embracing certain prudent steps: manufacturers should introduce certain features to help the aging become friendly with the appliances by adding voice message buttons, incorporating manuals in audio form. Also, family members must enlighten them about the  advantages of updating them with the recent developments and encourage them to engross themselves in activities like watching movies, listening to music, and so on.

Overall, I vehemently confirm that appropriate guidance should be afforded to those in their golden years to overcome barriers, so that they can enjoy the amenities availed by every one.

Some old people today struggle with the use of modern technologies such as smartphones and computers? What are the causes of this? What are the solutions?

Some old people today struggle with the use of modern technologies such as smartphones and computers? What are the causes of this? What are the solutions?

Causes

  • They are used to operating older systems that needed manual efforts,  and were not compact in size

  • Their failing health makes it hard for them  familiarize with the modern equipment

    • slowing reflexes

    • Weakening eyesight

    • Failing memory

  • Reluctance to accept change, for they fear that they might become a butt of jokes if they make a mistake

  • Young members of family not cooperating

Panacea

  • Manufacturers should include voice commands, and bigger and more accessible buttons

  • Special manuals to help them learn about new devices

  • Family members helping them learn by showing them the benefits of such devices like making video calls to loved ones, showing them their favorite programs and playing them  the music they have a penchant for

In contemporary times, people in their autumn years find it very hard to cope with the latest technologies. The following paragraphs shall discuss the causes attributed to this and also suggest panacea.

Those in  their twilight years are habitual of devices which require more manual effort, and were not compact in size like keypad mobiles and telephones with multiple buttons. Also, their failing health does not permit them to learn and comprehend modern technology. Additionally, most are suffering from failing memory, slow reflexes and weak eyesights, which act as an impediment in their becoming friendly with the operational aspect of the latest gadgets.

In addition to that, they fail to accept the new change because of the fear of committing a mistake in this age that could fetch them embarrassment  in front of their young ones. Moreover, the young generation does not support them to learn the latest trends since elderly are slow to understand the basic features.

However, there are several ways to surmount this challenge. They profess  that smartphone manufacturers should integrate features like voice command, larger and easily accessible buttons for the convenient use by the aging. Similarly, they can create audio, video and special manuals to help learn about devices. Besides this, families can help their aged members in learning about the benefits and usage of mobile phones and computers, for various tasks such as making video calls, chatting with doctors and ordering food online, so that they develop affinity with the new methods.

To conclude this, mobiles act as a boon for the society, and the same is true for the elderly and they can take the  benefits of learning it with baby steps, overcoming impediments created by their inability to cope with modern technology and their poor health.

Nowadays more and more older people who are looking for work have to compete with younger people for the same jobs

It is commonly observed today that those above 55 are predisposed to cut-throat competition from their younger counterparts. This has made them vulnerable to umpteen complications, making it imperative to discover panacea for this predicament.

The most prominent of the troublesome circumstances resulting out of this phenomenon is that the elderly are left out of the fray by virtue of being oblivious to modern  technology and methods, something the younger generation is quite familiar with: the current curriculum involves disseminating knowledge about these methods. To corroborate, most companies, world over, prefer to hire personnel who are tech savvy and friendly with up-to-date working procedures, and the older generation stands a rare chance to be selected for such jobs.

Moreover, this is predisposing the older generation to extreme struggles as they have to rely on either part time work - that rarely helps them make  their ends meet, or survive on their savings, resulting in financial troubles, and forcing them to survive in extreme penury. To exemplify, post pandemic, when most businesses started hiring personnel, they selectively choose healthier young workers; consequently, many seniors had to sell their belongings, or do menial jobs to scrape a living.

Overcoming this challenge is possible provided policymakers take pragmatic steps: affording free of cost training to those above 50, so that the latter can get on a level playing field; and use the upgraded knowledge to be deemed as eligible. Similarly, employers should be persuaded to alter their hiring strategies and allocate equal priority to the experience besides adroitness in modern ways of working.

Overall, the stiff competition being  posed by young job aspirants is making the older workers prone to unemployment and impoverishment, and to ameliorate this, the state should intervene and afford free education and modify certain norms.
