The world should have only one government rather than a national government for each country. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

The world should have only one government rather than a national government for each country. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

Some  propose a unified global government instead of each nation having one of its own. This essay shall delve deeper to determine the pros and cons into this matter, and evaluate whether the notion of merits of such world order surpass its demerits.

Undeniably, a single world-government could promote global cooperation and nearly eliminate conflicts between nations as having one central authority, issues like climate change, global health crisis, cross-border terrorism, and border disputes could be effectively addressed by discovering remedies sans impediments. Also, this arrangement can engender a conducive environment for travel and communication across borders, by affording uniform laws and policies, which would simplify trade and unify commerce across stratas of society.

However, the idea of one worldwide authority undermines cultural diversity and representation of people hailing from diverse backgrounds and regions with unique traditions, values, and political systems dating way before the conceptualisation of governments;  hence, it would be extremely difficult for universal governance to fairly address distinct local issues. Such centralisation would lead to loss of local autonomy, and could result in unequal and inefficient distribution of resources as managing the needs of a global population is highly complex.

Furthermore, vesting power in a global governing body poses the risk of misuse of authority: without sufficient checks and balances, such representation might become too powerful, potentially leading to authoritarian control, and eventually a collapse in the not too distant future. To corroborate this, the fall of the Soviet Union was largely credited to rampant corruption and neglect of accountability with blatant exploitation of the people and resources of Baltic nations.

Overall, although a universal regime might offer benefits such as improved coordination and reduced conflicts, those rejecting this stress on the pitfalls - particularly the risks to cultural diversity, representation, and political freedom - and state that these are far more significant than any rewards this proposed world order might afford.

The world should have only one government rather than a national government for each country. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

The idea of installing a global governing body, instead of having separate establishments administering their own countries, has long been debated. While such a system might have some merits, I strongly believe that the drawbacks clearly outstrip the former.

Advocates of this arrangement argue that having a unified regime for the whole world can help resolve numerous global issues, and help develop harmony and respect among diverse cultures.  Additionally, a majority of  international conflicts arise due to the hunger of capturing territorial rights of the others, but engendering this system would outrightly eradicate  cross-border disputes.  For instance, a major portion of the budgets of every country is allocated to strengthen defense systems, to safeguard their borders from potential threats from the neighbouring countries.

In contrast, many believe that such a set-up can prove to be disastrous, rather than a positive development. This could lead to the government acting arbitrarily at their own whims and fancies, thereby neglecting the actual issues influencing localized circumstances, causing chaos rather than bringing clarity. Additionally, it would undermine the true essence of democracy and would prove to be regressive, by paving the way for authoritarian rules. For instance, in many countries, authoritarian regimes have failed to establish social harmony, rather they have instilled fear and have taken control,  whereas democratic settings extend absolute freedom in almost all walks of lives.  These two different ways of lives would prove to be compatible and thus result in conflicts of interest causing disorder.

In conclusion, this proposal fails to emanate optimism, as the shortfalls are much more disastrous which cannot be overlooked. The concept of uniform global government does not sit well in a fragmented world, wherein some are placed as democracies, while others are autocratic: the root of all conflicts.

In recent times, there has been an idea that uniform  governments could find social and economic benefits in collaborating with each other and removing the natural borders. This vision has forced many global leaders to ponder on the merits, demerits and efforts involved in joining forces together. This topic requires a deeper analysis.

A group of centralized policy makers can bring about significant positive changes to the way the world operates. In recent times, miscreants have found loopholes to escape the law and find refuge in countries without an extradition policy, which would be automatically eliminated with the arrival of a central order of command.

Moreover, many are in favor of a borderless world: a recent survey by the travel week magazine, showcased that the number one priority for people was for unity among policy makers to make it convenient to explore different continents. This would also lead to ease of trade between organizations and government bodies alike who do not have to go through additional red tape created by law makers today.

However, the critics feel that a unified world leadership may not provide adequate importance to certain minority communities and their respective needs will not be catered to in the long run and probably would lead to their existence being diminished. There is a fear among sections of various societies that it could lead to a few power-hungry leaders having excessive control over the world which could be detrimental to society in the future.

Overall, a united front for policy makers is a unique concept and the pros of this arrangement eclipse its cons. However, it is essential to  critically analyse  both the aspects, before embarking on the idea of uniting the world, by targeting greater good it would do for humanity at large.
