It is commonly suggested the number of road mishaps can be mitigated by implementing speed thresholds. Although this policy carries numerous benefits, it is hard to overlook the drawbacks associated with it, making it imperative to blend it with other tools to ensure better outcomes.

This  arrangement affords a major favourable aspect: giving drivers enough time and space to monitor the conditions of traffic and road ahead, and respond accordingly. Most accidents occurring are a result of speeding vehicles crashing into slow moving, or stationary cars, buses, and so forth; or potholes. Thus, if one has enough time to observe the circumstances, they can take evasive actions. To corroborate, countries like Australia, Great Britain and France, to name a few, have successfully used this law to curb mishaps and slash fatalities by seventy percent.

Nevertheless, this approach can stretch travelling times, and cause traffic snarls, especially during the rush hours, and precipitate higher stress levels among motorists, making them irritable. To exemplify, cities like Manila and Delhi, among others, witness umpteen road rage cases every year, and these are primarily attributed to slow statutory speeds.

Several experts propose that to counter detrimental effects of forcing a ceiling on how fast one can drive, a stringent licensing policy should be enacted to help ensure that those intending to sit behind the wheel are trained appropriately, and have the correct temperament to handle driving. Moreover, zero tolerance should be exercised against infringements, and repeated offenders should be permanently barred from sitting in the seat of drivers.

In conclusion, despite having certain shortcomings, curtailing the speed of traffic is the most credible method of making roads safer for users and commuters. This strategy can be made more effective by deploying other schemes to derive and enduring outcomes.

Rising incidence of road accidents has prompted many to suggest imposing speed limits to afford road safety. This approach has its own set or favorable and unfavorable outcomes, but on a serious note there is hardly any alternative available to this setting.

Many who are sceptical  of the proposal of prohibiting high speed driving claim that the mishaps occur due to poor road sense and negligent attitude of the drivers, which stem from the liberal approach adopted by authorities  in extending licenses and imposing penalties. They suggest that if zero tolerance were exercised, and  offenders severely penalized, those driving recklessly would be forced to adhere to driving norms.

This lobby cites  the detrimental impact lowering speeds can have on the people and the environment. Slower traffic will cause an increment in travelling times, stress levels, and pollution. People will be forced to leave their homes or offices earlier to reach their destinations on time, or run the risk of reaching late, causing unprecedented stress. Additionally, vehicles moving at a snail’s pace will result in traffic snarls/jams, thereby raising the emission levels due to increased use of fuels.

However, notwithstanding all the criticism, which lacks substance, curtailing the driving speed is a practical solution. With such a law in place, drivers will be persuaded to limit their instincts of driving fast; thus, giving themselves room and time to judge and react to an abrupt situation on the  road ahead which may include conditions of the traffic and the roads, and also pedestrians appearing out of nowhere suddenly, consequently, averting accidents.

Hence, controversies apart, I strongly feel that imposing a speed control law is the need of the hour even though this may have certain drawbacks, but the safety of those using the roads cannot be compromised.

Ielts Essay Speed Limits
Over-speeding is a modern evil fuelled by adventurous spirits of humans which can sometimes, result in unwarranted outcomes, often fatal injuries. This makes it imperative, as per many, to curb speed though this practice has its own benefits and of course, some drawbacks. I am quite convinced about using speed control mechanism: there is no other alternative to ensure road safety.

It is commonly felt, reigning in speeding drivers is the only solution to make roads safer, or else drivers would never be able to overcome the temptation of pushing gas pedals of their vehicles further down. If this law is implemented strictly, people will, instead of finding excuses to drive faster and displaying their fearless attitudes, will adjust to the conditions and adopt safe driving habits.

Installing speed limits on roads, highways and streets, can prove to be highly productive a step: it would make drivers drive responsibly and safely, thus, reducing number of accidents, and thus injuries and causalities. It has been observed quite often that when driving at high speeds, people have little time to respond effectively to any situation since their reflexes cannot function as fast as the speed of their vehicles. This jeopardizes safety of not only the occupants of erring automobiles but also of others around.

However, critics of the speed limit arrangement often cite certain shortfalls of slowing down the vehicles. This, as per them may lead in rise in levels of air and noise pollution: vehicles moving at a slow speed tend to consume too much fuel, and their engines also tend to generate more noise, due to higher rounds per minute.

To summarize, applying speed control norms can help a great deal in ensuring that people remain safe while plying on the roads; hence it is advantageous.
