In contemporary times, people in their autumn years find it very hard to cope with the latest technologies. The following paragraphs shall discuss the causes attributed to this and also suggest panacea.

Those in  their twilight years are habitual of devices which require more manual effort, and were not compact in size like keypad mobiles and telephones with multiple buttons. Also, their failing health does not permit them to learn and comprehend modern technology. Additionally, most are suffering from failing memory, slow reflexes and weak eyesights, which act as an impediment in their becoming friendly with the operational aspect of the latest gadgets.

In addition to that, they fail to accept the new change because of the fear of committing a mistake in this age that could fetch them embarrassment  in front of their young ones. Moreover, the young generation does not support them to learn the latest trends since elderly are slow to understand the basic features.

However, there are several ways to surmount this challenge. Undeniably, the elderly are unable to swiftly embrace the use of modern tools, and methods, and the following paragraphs intend to delve deeper into the causes driving this hesitation, besides recommending some plausible remedies.

To begin with, the  primary factor fueling this reluctance is the wide gap between the functioning of the equipment senior citizens were exposed to in their heyday, and the one they are vulnerable to now. For instance,  machines of yesteryears, even those belonging to late 20th century, supported manual operations, which were slow, and had physical buttons, whereas their up-to-date counterparts are digital versions; compact in size; have virtual functional symbols; and respond spontaneously, making it hard for the aged to cope with the speed and the sophistication, and forcing them to stay away from engaging with these.

To add to the woes, their failing health, slowing reflexes, and aging eyes, present a steep challenge in them becoming friendly with these gadgets. A majority is disinclined to use the new introductions, for they fear that handling these might result in malfunctions, and damage, fetching them ridicule of their family members, making them resistant to the idea of operating these.

Fostering a penchant among old individuals can be a seamless task if families decide to intervene. The progeny and the grandchildren  should demonstrate the practical use of these instruments, and persuade them to interact with these actively. Additionally, the devices being manufactured should have optional facilities like voice command to promote ease of use for all, especially for those in their autumn years.

In hindsight, incompatible technologies, and the age, stigmatize indulgence with concurrent equipment and methods; nonetheless, younger family members, and manufacturers can help teach the aging population that one can become tech savvy at any stage of life.
