Children should play Indoor games on the computer more than outdoor games. Do you agree or disagree with the statement ?

The perception that juveniles should play games on computers at home more than going outside to play, is a topic that invites a fierce debate. While these offer certain advantages, they cannot supersede their outdoor counterparts. I fail to concur with this; outdoor games should not be overshadowed by indoor ones.

Technology-based games have their merits, particularly in developing cognitive and technical skills. Many of these aim at bolstering problem-solving abilities, strategic thinking and hand eye coordination. Additionally, engaging with these can help young minds familiarize with digital environments, an essential requirement for progressive future careers. Moreover, certain multiplayer online games allow them to socialize with others virtually.

However, those disapproving the former practice assert that it will deprive growing individuals of the benefits of playing games outside can fetch, especially when considering physical, mental and social development. While indulging in undertakings  in a playing field, encourages one to indulge in physical exercise, helping them stay fit and healthy. In contrast, too much time spent playing computer games can lead to a sedentary lifestyle, increasing the risk of obesity and other health problems like poor posture or weak eyesight.

Involvement in games played in open surroundings like playgrounds can foster social skills through face-to face interactions with peers. Sports like soccer, basketball, or even playground activities, teach juveniles about effective communication, cooperation and negotiating competition, which is essential for their emotional and social growth. In comparison, the social interaction of computer games are often limited to virtual spaces, lacking the richness of personal connection.

In conclusion, while computer games have their own relevance, holistic benefits of indulging in outdoor undertakings, that youngsters can reap, will be given a miss. Thus, this practice should not be promoted, and  instead a balanced approach should be embraced.

Some suggest that youngsters should prioritize involving themselves with virtual games over outdoor recreation. This notion arouses mixed views. I strongly dissent with the notion, and would bolster my opinion in the forthcoming paragraphs and would elucidate my view.

Opting for indoor activities: video games, may  foster problem-solving skills, and enhance creativity and innovation as it could be beneficial for the overall growth of tender minds. For instance, many games entail overcoming umpteen challenges, and provide growing minds with complex tasks to solve.  Such  an arrangement boosts critical thinking by virtue of requiring to think spontaneously, and could enable them to transfer these learnings into academics and in the professional domain, and excel in those realms.

Nevertheless,  skeptics vehemently debunk the former perception fail to lend support to this practice, for they  fear that adopting such a system will have detrimental effects on the health as young ones will abandon physical endeavors that lead to sedentary lifestyle, and expose them to obesity, diabetes and many more, making them incapable of handling strenuous tasks. To illustrate, most modern urban youngsters, across the world, are found to be increasingly out of shape owing to them choosing to engage with computer-driven games and activities.

Additionally,  they will lack social exposure, something  critical for their holistic development of personalities. Interacting with others in the physical world has been a historical practice, also bolstered by scientific studies, that has helped shaped human mind, and helped it garner experiences,  helping it inculcate resourcefulness, and also equipping it with problem-solving capabilities using precedents of others.

In hindsight, youngsters must involve themselves in the physical undertakings; this will help them maintain their physical well being by metabolising calories, and afford them healthy social exposure that will be beneficial for them in future.

Children should play Indoor games on the computer more than outdoor games

Why play computer games

  • This will keep them safe from unsafe outdoors

  • Protect them from pollution and infections

  • Making youngsters tech savvy: this can prepare them for the future professional endeavors

  • This can also help improve their reflexes - quick thinking and decision making abilities

  • Teach them about solving complex  problem

Why not

  • Indoor activities expose youngsters to indolent (sedentary) lifestyles and make them vulnerable to disease

  • Hampers their mental and physical growth

  • They miss the chance to earn a healthy distraction

  • Impedes personality development - life skills and other important traits

  • They never learn about social interaction and behavior, and also about critical life skills

Many feel that young ones should devote more time to playing computer games at home rather than engaging in outdoor ones. However, there are critics of this proposal.

To start with, some strongly lobby behind this notion since virtual games can prove to be extremely useful when it comes to grabbing pivotal skills required by one to become tech savvy for the future life. Most young individuals are about to step into professional, social and familial realms where they will need to use the modern methods to negotiate a myriad of responsibilities, and these games can help familiarize them with the latest introductions of technology.

Notwithstanding the former view, even though virtual games do have certain benefits to offer,  persuading youngsters to engage with these can expose them to more drawbacks. They can turn into addicts simply gluing themselves to these activities and overlooking every other essential task required to fetch crucial learnings about various domains such as academics, meeting people in person and also interacting with surroundings.

To corroborate, this can be supported by citing the outcomes of  a survey conducted by the University of Waterloo to assess the detrimental impact of ignoring outdoor games in favor of computer-aided ones, on the young minds. The findings were startling as  most children had turned apathetic to their surroundings, and tended to avoid meeting others in the real world, engage in their studies and also ignore the need to get proper sleep. This, however, failed to benefit them academically and professionally.

In hindsight, despite computer games being promoted as highly beneficial for youngsters, I fail to concur with the idea of preferring these over outdoor engagements since the latter are laden with umpteen benefits. Striking a balance between both is highly desirable.
