Some people believe that manufacturers and supermarkets should minimize the packaging material used. However, others think that consumers should avoid heavily packaged goods. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

In contemporary times, a profound debate has ensued whether manufacturing and retail industry should dissuade from the excessive use of packing material, or customers should don the mantle of restricting themselves from buying such things.

A lobby is of the view that manufacturers and supermarket owners are the trend setters and can change the fashion as per their convenience. Therefore, any action taken at their end will nip the evil in the bud and will act as a permanent solution to this problem. As it has been observed that customers purchase what is offered to them and have very little or no choice when it comes to essential products; thus, prudent actions taken at the level of manufacturers can halt this evil practice and result in miracles.

Moreover, producers and sellers are using packaging as means to attract the shoppers and to gain an edge over their competitors, in order to increase their sales. Therefore, it is essential that they on their part should avoid the packing material unreasonably. Besides this, following the above proposal will turn out to be a beneficial exercise as the amount invested in this segment will get reduced, reducing their cost per unit.

Nonetheless, there are a few who feel that it is consumers who have the potential and power to turn things around faster and discourage this wasteful practice by abstaining from purchasing such products. If they adopt such measures, those involved in producing and selling will have to respond quickly, and transform their packing strategies, or bear the unsold stocks.

To sum up, by analyzing both the views, both manufacturers, supermarkets, and customers should forgo the heavy use packaging. This will have an enduring  impact since the unreasonable use of raw material and energy will be curtailed.

There is nowadays an intriguing debate brewing up, due to the material used in wrapping things, that who should work to put a halt to this practice. There is a lobby that justifies that this initiative should be taken up by producers and retailers, while others believe that shoppers should refrain from buying such goods. I will discuss both the views in the following paragraphs.

The appealing material used in wrapping leads to the depletion of natural resources. By minimising the utilisation of packaging material, ones producing the merchandise can help nip the evil in its bud, and contribute towards the environment; saving energy used in the production process. As a result, this will aid in curbing the pollution emitted in the procedure. Furthermore, promoting such an act would instil a sense of responsibility in them towards safeguarding the environment.

Similarly,  manufacturers could save a considerable amount of money by reducing the usage of wrapping material. This cost-cutting would result in generating a rich profusion of profits, thereby, flourishing several sectors like manufacturing and retail. The benefits accrued will be in form of lower operational costs, the benefit could be also passed down to the consumers in form of lower prices, augmenting  business in the process.

However, the other lobby suggests consumers should don the mantle of such a task, they rule the roost and carry the power to bring in changes quite rapidly. If the buyers start abstaining from over-packed goods, the producers and sellers will be forced to spring into action: they unsold stock will bleed their resources and cause them losses, persuading them quickly to surrender to the will of their audience and stop this wasteful practice.

To reiterate, after assessing both the views,  I feel that such initiatives, like curbing over packing, should be jointly handled by both the parties. When the objective involves the noble cause of protecting the environment, everyone sharing and exploiting it, should join hands.

Ielts Essay - Over Packaging
The growing wastage production, that is also leading to increase in pollution and exploitation of natural resources, has raised an alarm among the environmentalists. Some necessary steps need to be taken to stop this. To start with, use of packaging material should be minimized. But, on whom onus of taking initiative, consumers or companies, is yet to be decided.

A producer of goods is the source of packaging innovations. It has been experienced in the past that in an attempt to attract the consumers, the manufacturers have started using attractive packaging that involves extravagant use of material. Nobody can do it better than the producers themselves, i.e. the consumers, if rationally analysed, are least bothered about the amount of packaging used, and simply remain focussed on the quality of content. So, if the consumer companies could initiate reduction in amount of packing, the consumers would take a cue and follow the trend.

Moreover, if the companies take a step ahead in reducing the amount of packing material used, it would be interpreted into multiple benefits, ranging from reduction in wastage of resources to bringing down the cost of production; increasing the profit margins; and ultimately reducing the selling price. The benefits accrued on reducing cost of production would also be transferred to the customers, thereby increasing the sales, as more and more goods would be consumed.

However, it has been experienced that when it comes to influencing market trends, buyers can bring around change quickly, i.e. if the buyers stop purchasing goods, the manufacturers would be forced to react rapidly, and implement changes, e.g. in the past consumers forced the producers to start using greener technologies in manufacturing processes.

To conclude, I feel both customers and manufacturers should jointly share the responsibility of avoiding overuse of packing material. Surfeit use of packing material is recipe for disaster for the environment; thus, this evil must be eradicated quickly.
