Some people say industrial growth is necessary to solve poverty, while some believe it should be stopped due to the environmental problem it creates. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Incrementing environmental challenges are becoming central to every future planning, prompting a proposal that further industrial progress should be halted in order to safeguard the planet, but propose continuing it to help in upliftment of the deprived. However, I believe a balanced approach will be more suitable for a sustainable future.
Industrial advancement is helping create more jobs for disparate skills, ensuring a steady income for the needy, and aiding them in meeting their basic needs. Additionally, this is facilitating boosting production and discovery of new technologies. Growing economies allow governments to amass resources to support improvements in amenities and infrastructure, besides research into discovering greener technologies and fuels that hold great promises for a safe future of the environment. Thus, expanding industrial footprint is critical to meet the needs of mankind and sustain ecological vitality.
Nevertheless, nowadays, environmental complications have surged owing to deforestation. The planet is being denuded to create space for industrial farms, factories, which is releasing carbon dioxide into the air, and speeding up global warming. Similarly, effluents from industry and other sectors are polluting all spheres of the environment, affecting land-based and marine life: fish and other animals die because of chemicals and plastic. Similarly, humans are also being affected adversely due to the contamination caused by chemical fertilizers and waste: they are becoming vulnerable to several diseases like diarrhoea, and skin infections. These factors support the suggestion that it is necessary to decelerate industrial progress for a larger good of the planet.
Overall, undeniably, growth in manufacturing industries creates jobs, but it has also engendered myriad environmental issues which can prove to be catastrophic. Nevertheless, a turnaround is only possible with further advancement. Thus, striking a balance between both the aspects will ensure a hospitable environment and better lifestyles.
