All types of advertising should be banned because they are damaging to society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
A general perception of contemporary times is aligned with a view that there should be an embargo on all kinds of adverts since they provoke harmful practices. I partially agree with this perspective and shall discuss in the following paragraphs.
Some propound that adverts have an unfavorable influence, especially on the younger generation. This is to say, young minds are beguiled by the virtual and tempting presentation of fast food, laden with high levels of saturated fat; consequently, pushing them into over-eating, making them corpulent. Moreover, the multitude of ads being pushed to the consumers are unregulated, forcing many to squander money on purposeless and unintentional purchases. For example, a recent study revealed that there has been a dramatic increment in the mindless spending; similar products are portrayed on screens repeatedly making them buy unconsciously and without need.
However, many debunk these allegations, and feel that adverts hold an imperative place: they act as a medium of disseminating information. The campaign of Polio vaccine national televisions and newspapers in India, helped engender extensive awareness, persuading citizens to join hands in eradicating this deadliest disease. Thus, proscribing ads will make people oblivious of this ailment, allowing it to bounce back. Similarly, the world of media creates employment for many: directors, acoustic technicians, actors, and so forth; consequently, augmenting the employment index every year. To corroborate, in Japan, The House of Usher, a multinational advertising company, renders employment to thousands, thereby decreasing unemployment levels.
In conclusion, considering the aforementioned views, one must weigh the consequences of prohibiting publicity since these act as information channels and support many by providing jobs. Therefore, only unnecessary adverts promoting unhealthy habits and extravagance must be curtailed, while the ones that fulfill the purpose of spreading awareness should be allowed to continue.
