In recent years, there has been a rise in the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports. What are the consequences of doping for athletes? What measures should be taken to combat this issue?

In the contemporary era, there is an ongoing debate on growing problems of doping among athletes. People who prefer consuming performance enhancing drugs are facing many consequences. I will analyze and share plausible measures which can be adopted.

To start with, people believe that enhancing performance allows better performance in career, which makes athletes use such material even though these pose severe health risks such as heart diseases, and so forth. Apart from that, it could lead to addiction by continuous consumption; eventually, causing mental disorders, aggression and anxiety, along with severe ramifications, in the  form of physical disability or loss of life. To exemplify, many professional wrestlers like Diamen Djordi from Romania, were involved in doping, which severely impacted their lives, and caused death at a young age.

On top of that, other serious impacts include the career facing disruptions caused by suspensions, or coming to an end due to imposition of ban and prohibition. This could lead to damaging the public image and reputation, and loss of sponsorships. For instance, there are many famous players who became involved in doping, their careers are often completely destroyed due to loss of reputation, and health complications.

Having said that, there are many measures which can be opted to combat this issue, making athletes under strict and regular monitoring could help in coping with the doping factor, charging high penalties. To illustrate, in European countries, educational programmes for sports personnel to spread awareness among the athletes about avoiding doping and drug use.

In hindsight, drug users are impacting their career and public image. Additionally, doping is impacting their health, affecting their physical and mental wellness. Thus, strict laws and restrictions, along with appropriate regulation should be implemented.
