It is commonly perceived that policy makers should restrict content, portraying brutality, being shown on audio-visual media, to stem unlawful acts of violent nature. I partly concur with this notion, and will be elucidating my stand in the following paragraphs.

To start with, television and motion pictures enjoy a profound influence on society,  and the way illegal acts exhibiting savagery are glamorized, viewers, especially juveniles,  try to emulate whatever they see on the screen. They consider such acts being taken as normal, and in the process, expose themselves, and others harmful consequences.   To exemplify, in 2010, a student of Delhi Public School, Bhopal, killed a classmate, and during the police investigation, the child said that he was performing an act from a DXY movie where the actor killed the negative character by pushing them from a 21st floor building for a stunt.

However, violent crimes cannot be controlled just by monitoring entertainment media, there are a myriad of other factors which play an important role such as poverty, mental-health issues, unemployment, well-being, lifestyle, locality, and most importantly,  lack of education. In most cases, it has been observed that those threatened by society, suffering from psychological issues, get involved in criminal endeavors that are brutal in nature. Curtailing such content on visual media will instead make society oblivious of such incidence of law breaking, and make it vulnerable to dire outcomes.

To conclude, restricting the television and movies access may help reduce crime and violence to some extent, but I think this is unlikely to completely eliminate criminal undertaking aimed at harming others unless policymakers take prudent steps like educating society, rendering social security, employment, which will play a major catalyst in mitigating such a malady.
