It is generally seen that tourist attractions such as monuments, historical sites and various cultural places impose higher entry charges on overseas travellers. I do agree with this notion and believe that similar access free shouldn’t be charged from everyone.

Many are in favor of this arrangement. When tourists are charged higher, this will help in boosting the economy of the host country and developing the tourism industry. As this access fees will help local governments generate money for the maintenance of the heritage sites. Otherwise, they will have to channelize funds from the public budget. From this perspective, having higher fees for foreign travellers has a better impact.

In addition to the above, imposing higher fees will also help in maintaining the novelty value that means when people pay for something, they value it more. For instance, the Louvre Museum in Paris costs a lot to enter, attracts a cluster of people every year while the Cathedral de Paris has no entrance fees thereby, doesn’t experience such an influx.

Similarly, the local people must be aware of their national cultures and the past associated with historical sites. The government should keep low access fees to encourage them to visit such places and imbibe the knowledge regarding their country. Furthermore, the residents cannot be charged higher since they pay taxes and are the true owners of such locations, along with being informal ambassadors of such locations.

To conclude, having the same ticket fee, both from local people as well as foreign travellers to visit various cultural and historical places like monuments, parks, regional fests and so on, will be unfair to the natives and unfavourable to the economy as well. Hence, I concur with the statement.

It is generally seen that tourist attractions such as monuments, historical sites and various cultural places impose higher charges on overseas travellers. I do agree with this idea and believe that similar access fees should be charged from everyone.

When tourists are charged higher, they take back the impression of discrimination towards them. This act discourages foreigners from visiting places of tourist attraction, whereas if levied equally, they would persuade their immediate family and friends to visit such places which ultimately helps increase the tourist inflow, resulting in phenomenal growth in the earnings of the tourism industry and thereby, boosting the economy.

Furthermore, this will help in spreading the culture around the world: more and more alien visitors will be willing to explore the culture and traditions of the host society. Thus, making a society and its culture appear more prominently at the global level. For example, Dilli Haat in Delhi India, due to its nominal access charges that are similar for all, has gained visibility across the world and attracts a great number of travellers every year who gain an enriching experience by visiting this location.

Moreover, due to the surge in the number of overseas travellers, the local nearby vendors get profited. This astronomical revenue benefits the government as well through the taxes. The government can use these funds in the maintenance of historical places. From this perspective, equal entrance fees would be of great advantage and have a better impact.

To conclude, having the same ticket fee, both from local people as well as foreign travellers to visit various cultural and historical places like monuments, parks, regional fests and so on, will be more beneficial. Hence, I fail to concur with the statement.

Foreign tourists must be charged higher fees
Ielts Essay - Foreign tourists must be charged higher fees
Levying foreign travelers with higher entry fees at various historical sites and other places of tourist interests has been a common trend world over. But, this has sometimes drawn flak from the various sections who feel that this practice is unjust.

Levying higher than locals, charges, at various locations of tourist and cultural relevance, for alien tourists seems to be justified. The local inhabitants contribute a lot, through taxes and other levies, a share of which also is used to maintain historical locations. This contribution makes natives deserving candidates for special treatment. Furthermore, whatever money governments collect from the alien travelers is often used to cover up the deficits in maintenance of such locations, and improve tourism infrastructure that targets foreign tourists.

Moreover, locals are the true owners, and unofficial ambassadors of such locations. Furthermore, it is also important to make young generation appreciate its national heritage. Creating parity between charges paid by natives with that of aliens would defeat the whole purpose; locals would not visit if they have to bear a heavy entry fee. Citizens are a quick medium of carrying around the word of mouth, which can create awareness in the world, e.g. when nationals upload pictures and write blogs about their experiences about tourist locations, the word spreads around the globe quickly.

However, charging alien travelers more has some serious drawbacks since this move may be considered as a bias towards the foreigners. This is bound to dissuade many travelers from visiting these locations who would be unwilling to pay exorbitant fee. It may also become difficult for travelers hailing from poor countries to afford visit to these destinations due to unfavorable exchange rates.

Hence, I feel imposing higher charges on entry of aliens visitors at tourist locations is fully justified, and the contra view  lacks substance since no parallels can be drawn between locals and foreigners.
