In many countries, coffee chains are expanding rapidly, which some claim threatens the survival of small local cafés.To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The growing ubiquity of giant coffee house brands  has propounded the notion that these are forcing their local competition to close. However, some do not concur with this, making it imperative to analyse this matter critically before delivering a justified conclusion.

To begin with, established cafes have a comfortable ambience along with facilities  allowing people to sit there, and spend their time lair time, as well as do their work there. For instance, in Canada Tim Hortons having more than 4000 outlets at several locations allow students to work there for hours without any disturbance. This has made them immensely popular among their customers and overtake their smaller competitors.

In addition, big coffee brands make huge investments and they are following the concept of aggressively promoting their brands. Besides advertising, they offer uniform taste and prices, which compel people to choose their brand over others. For instance, Starbucks, whether located in India or Dubai, would offer the same aroma and tastes of coffee.

However, some people believe that authentic tastes that small cafes offer cannot be matched by big cafe houses. Moreover, the flexibility in their location attracts customers, they are located in unique environments and atmosphere which make people avail their services. For instance, small cafes comfortably placed in various parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and so forth,  tend to offer genuine local flavors which can never be replicated by big coffee brands. These factors allow them to survive in the face of stiff competition from global brands.

In conclusion, I partially subscribe to this notion. Even though global brands have established themselves firmly everywhere, the genuineness offered by the small cafes are allowing them to endure the stiff competition successfully, and survive.

In many countries, coffee chains are expanding rapidly, which some claim threatens the survival of small local cafés. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There is a noticeable trend in expansion of coffee chains in various countries around the globe, while some lobbyists believe that this growth is jeopardizing the survival of local cafes. This essay will critically analyze this perspective and deliver a well-reasoned conclusion.

Many well-established coffee chains are increasing rapidly due to their effective pricing strategies. They maintain standardized prices across all their outlets. Likewise, they offer frequent discounts and special deals, particularly through specific bank cards. For instance, popular coffee chains like Starbucks provide discounts and special offers on payments made through certain bankcards, luring more customers and helping their business grow quickly. Consequently, they are snatching business from local brands.

Moreover, these chains offer higher customer satisfaction as compared to local ones, through additional services: free wifi, complementary cookies on birthdays, and so on. Additionally, they provide a better ambience, which leads to greater customer retention. For example, many students in Vancouver prefer studying in Tim Hortons due to its comfortable seating, free Wi-Fi access, and relaxing environment. Consequently, this encourages longer visits and repeat customers, supporting expansion of such chains and closure of small businesses.

However, cafes having regional presence cannot disappear as they have their own unique characteristics like authentic  local tastes and personalized experience, which large chains often fail to replicate. Additionally, small cafes can survive because they have lower operational costs and can easily change their menu and prices. This flexibility helps them to compete with big rivals.

To conclude, although the rapid expansion of coffee chains offer several merits such as standardized pricing and enhanced customer experience, it does not necessarily pose a serious threat to local cafes, because the latter  continue to attract customers through their unique authentic tastes and flexibility

Some people think that climate change could have a negative effect on business. Others think that climate change could create more business opportunities. Discuss both views and your own opinions.

Some people think that climate change could have a negative effect on business. Others think that climate change could create more business opportunities. Discuss both views and your own opinions.

It is often perceived by many that altering weather patterns is likely to deliver devastating impact on commercial activities, while some are optimistic about the outcome of this phenomenon. I will analyse both views and draw a plausible conclusion.

Those fearing severe ramification of shifts in climatic behavior feel that businesses in many regions could face droughts and flooding due to the unpredictable weather phenomenon due to unannounced prolonged dry spells and excessive precipitation, especially those involved in agriculture will be the hardest hit. Other industries such as fishing will also encounter loss of marine life as rise in temperature will also erode the coral reefs. To cite, the WHO has in its report stated that regions with temperatures greater than 45 degrees Celsius, or higher will face severe water shortages, and 70% farmers, and the companies involved in processing food, in those areas will likely lose their livelihood.

On the flip side,  some see abundant opportunities in this evolving scenario  as the need will arise to move away from fossil fuels and look for alternative energy sources, like Solar energy, and this would prove to be rewarding for those manufacturing equipment, and possessing expertise, for such technologies. Simultaneously, many other industries like automobiles will be moving toward fully electric vehicles instead of combustion engines, creating new business venues. Moreover, other businesses will have to adapt to the newer conditions. For example, agriculture will be moving towards vertical farming and mimic the environmental conditions to grow fruits and vegetables throughout the year.

To conclude, undeniably, despite climate change creating possibilities for commercial endeavors, this is bound to prove to be a recipe for disaster since it might fetch windfall profits for some, but it will bring miseries for a majority, leaving them high and dry.

Many people argue that restaurants should be required to disclose the nutritional information of the dishes they serve. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

Many people argue that restaurants should be required to disclose the nutritional information of the dishes they serve.  Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

A debate has ensued about whether eateries should disclose the contents being used in their preparations. Some assert that it would promote healthier eating habits, while others reject and assert that this idea will complicate things. This essay shall discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this notion.

Divulging nutritional value of food will afford umpteen benefits: the clients can decide their meals as per their typical requirements such as choosing higher intake of more protein and avoiding carbs; consuming low cholesterol food and sugar free diet, in case one suffers from ailments: heart and diabetes. Moreover, those allergic to certain material: peanuts, or lactose can make informed decisions regarding their meals. Thus, making adherence to this system will help consumers make well-informed food choices, and ensure their well being.

Nevertheless, despite affording benefits, there are potential drawbacks of this rule. This might pose a financial burden on the food sector; they would have to conduct extensive nutritional assessment. Although behemoth establishments can cope with such laws, small business owners will be predisposed to a struggle to comply with norms, impacting their business unfavorably.  To corroborate, in India, trial implementation of this policy resulted in shutting down thousands of small eateries within the month due to extra financial burden, precipitating unemployment, forcing policy makers to roll back the policy. Similarly, recipes of signature dishes will no longer be secret, robbing them of their charm, and diminishing the distinctiveness, and thus, the value of food joints, impacting  the competitiveness of the food industry.

To conclude, undeniably, although there are challenges attached to this proposal, the rewards fetched overshadow its shortcomings - commercial benefits cannot be allocated precedence over the public health; this will allow people to follow healthy lifestyles, and make them aware about their diet.

Many companies now use artificial intelligence to make hiring decisions. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Many companies now use artificial intelligence to make hiring decisions. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Benefits

  • Time efficient
  • Cuts down on the time required to arrange for interviews, this can also be activated at a short notice
  • Mitigates traveling times required for interviewers and interviewees
  • Allow quick hiring
  •  Money efficient
  • Saves money of both the employers and the applicants, otherwise spent on arranging things and traveling to the venue
  • Lesser workload for administration
  • Candidates can appear for interviews in a relaxed environment
  • May help overcome bias
  • Can create records and prevent repetitive tasks
  • Make a better match of requirements and qualifications

Drawbacks

  • There is great likelihood of qualified candidates being rejected
  • Judging body language and facial expression is not possible for machines
  • Cannot judge emotional intelligence and resourcefulness of applicants
  • Lack human touch
  • Technical glitches and data theft

Although the advent of automation has made choosing the correct candidate for jobs convenient, there are some drawbacks of this system which cannot be overlooked. Therefore, it is imperative to evaluate whether the pros of this system exceed its cons.

Undeniably,  the self-driven system of talent acquisition has helped make things uncomplicated for recruiters as they are spared of the daunting tasks of planning interviews, arranging resources and venues, and creating a synchronization between different departments to allow a smooth flow of events. This up-to-date medium can perform all functions single-handedly without needing a special space for evaluating job applicants.

Nevertheless, despite this state-of-the art mechanism offering unprecedented convenience, its utility is extremely limited to selecting people for jobs that are straightforward; it is likely to misjudge the depth of experience of aspirants by virtue of operating on the basis of certain algorithms. To corroborate, surgeons and pilots can only be assessed on the basis of their successful surgeries and flying hours respectively with negligible errors and flaws.

Moreover, this medium is incapable of accurately examining soft and interpersonal skills because even the most advanced systems lack emotional intelligence, and thus, can never evaluate ability to communicate effectively, mental resilience, and persuasive acumen, the critical traits of capable professionals today. Several large hotel chains had to embrace the traditional system of interviewing prospective workers after the AI-assisted recruitment system failed to hire qualified people. These aspects assertively highlight that rewards offered by automated recruiting systems are scanty, while there are detriments galore.

In hindsight, notwithstanding the benefits  like the ease of operations, the AI-driven hiring process is severely restricted to selecting employees for simple tasks, by virtue of its inability to determine critical traits of job applicants; thus it should be used restrictively.

In many countries, coffee chains are expanding rapidly, which some claim threatens the survival of small local cafés. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Agree?

  • Uniform pricing, wherever one goes will pay similar amounts

  • Uniform products

  • Large scale operations which make these ubiquitous

  • Bigger investments, aggressive advertising and marketing

  • Offers in collaborations with other domains

  • Provide comfortable ambience and allow people to spend time there

Disagree

  • Unique atmosphere and environment allow them to survive

  • Cater to local tastes

  • Are more flexible with menus and can tweak things quickly

  • Their location and existence for long brings them loyalty

Undeniably, the growing ubiquity of large cafe chains is fueling cafe culture, but  is this pushing smaller stand-alone establishments out of business, is a matter worthy of deeper pondering, to ascertain whether this fear is well-founded or unwarranted.

Large organizations with multiple outlets boast of colossal investments in extensive and aggressive advertising strategies, helping them to enhance their visibility and outreach, enticing more and more consumers, persuading them to engage with these brands more frequently. For example, gigantic enterprises can afford to run promotional schemes, and enter into collaboration with brands operating in other domains, such as clothing, to engage their audience actively. This is something out of bounds for the small-scale companies; consequently, forming a notion that they are losing out to their bigger rivals.

Similarly, large chains stores have become a vogue, especially among the youth, due to their charisma: they offer extensive range of beverages and food - sometimes international, and not available locally - of homogenous quality, but unique, and at uniform prices, helping develop a taste among their customers for these offerings, and fetching brand loyalty. This is making some abandon their affiliation to regional options, and follow the universal companies.

Nevertheless, in the face of stiff competition, many locally known cafes are still able to hold their ground well, owing to the niche they have been able to create for themselves owing to their exclusive local flavor, something even the best global brands cannot replicate. To corroborate, several cafes world over: Proud Mary in Portland and Bercos in Delhi, have continued to co-exist with global giants.

In hindsight, although international and large cafe chains have overwhelmed the market, numerous establishments have endured this rivalry, and held steadfast, and their loss is extremely limited to some youngsters seeking broader  experience beyond coffee

Some people think that climate change could have negative effect on business. Others think that climate change could create more business opportunities. Discuss both views and your own opinions

Many people believe that alterations in weather patterns can harm business, while others think that this phenomenon can create numerous opportunities for commercial activities. In this essay, I will discuss both of the perspectives along with my opinion.

To begin with, there are myriad reasons why people believe that a shift in climatic patterns  can bring mega opportunities for their business. To start with, tourism establishments can afford more advantages due to weather change, like in many countries during hot summer days, individuals tend to spend  hefty amounts just to visit regions with moderate and cold temperatures, and in that sense, the leisure industry can register more profits. Also, during summer seasons the demand and supply of air-conditioners increases and similarly, in winters supply of geyser and heaters boost up the business for both manufactures and suppliers.

On the other hand, others believe that this shifting weather can have a negative effect on their trade. Like during the rainy season, heavy rainfall can negatively impact farmers. For example, due to extreme rainfall, the crops may get damaged and the complete farming activity gets affected, making farmers poor. Another drawback is for roadside vendors. The more than normal rains can impede their business and affect their earnings. Furthermore, the cities that experience higher than usual temperatures - as high as 47 degrees in the months of May, June and July and during peak summer months - dairy products and green groceries stand the risk of getting  spoiled.

To recapitulate, some businesses may be able to gain from the altering weather phenomenon, but in reality, small businesses may be impacted quite adversely, affecting a majority of the populace.

The leaders of most organizations tend to be older people. However, some argue that younger people make better bosses.

The leaders of most organizations tend to be older people. However, some argue that younger people make better bosses.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Do younger people make better boses?

Yes

  • They are better equipped with the knowledge of their surroundings, by virtue of being educated in an environment that is influenced by modern concepts

  • They are energetic and can set precedents easily for their subordinates  and sometimes are not authoritative

  • They are tech savvy and can use modern technology to make decisions

NO

  • Leadership qualities, like creating strategies and alternatives plans,  only are augmented with seasoning: those who have been through the thick and thin can only plan effectively and lead their team

  • Their attitude sans Experience that builds temperament and an attitude that teaches to manage resources well - every worker

  • Exposure also provides with a pragmatic vision, allowing near accurate predictions, which they lack

  • Are not unbiased

The modern school of thought believes that individuals in their younger years are better suited to occupy leadership positions than their older counterparts. In my opinion, this perception can be deemed as appropriate in certain cases.

Those  leaning in the favor of this arrangement found their argument on the fact that young bosses are energetic, and participate in every organizational endeavor from the front rather than simply passing orders from their cubicles. This aspect helps keep the workforce motivated as they feel that their seniors are sharing the burden instead of simply shifting it to the juniors, helping derive optimum outputs. There are abundant specimens(examples) of such setups, especially in construction, shipping and marketing wherein managers selected must be below a certain age, so that they can play a participative role and persuade their subordinates to emulate(copy).

On top of that, the modern generation is quite tech savvy and capable of using state-of-the-art concepts and tools to assess the situation, discover and implement solutions, and evaluate the performance of every component and resource under their control, effectively, fetching them the ability to manage operations more efficiently and decisively.

Nevertheless, even though the former claims are valid, taking ownership is a highly complicated task that can only be achieved by those having seasoning, pragmatic vision, and patience by their side, something that the youth lack. This is the only reason why commanding positions in military, expensive research and development undertakings, and gigantic corporations, have people in their middle ages since they have the right temperament to guide the whole organization.

In hindsight, managerial positions in contemporary times require energy, knowledge of technology together with the right approach. The first two factors need youthful exuberance while the third can only be handled effectively by the experienced.

Some people think that when recruiting, companies should aim to take on people who are innovative and able to work independently while others consider they should recruit people who are able to work in a team and follow instructions. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Some people think that when recruiting, companies should aim to take on people who are innovative and able to work independently while others consider they should recruit people who are able to work in a team and follow instructions. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Work in team
  • Effective management- Collaborative skills, decision making
  • Completing tasks on scheduled time

Work individually

  • More concentration on work- less mistakes

  • Implement enhanced problem solving methods

  • Better marketing ideas

A fierce debate has ensued regarding the factors that the businesses should consider while hiring personnel: some advocate opting for those who are resourceful and can operate autonomously, whereas others vouch for ones with ability to engage as team members. I feel both the perceptions hold substance; selection depends on the typical organizational needs.

Appointing employees with the ability to execute tasks, using their imaginative traits, independent of any external guidance, can help an organization to run independent profit centers. Such individuals are internally motivated, capable of making decisions, and completing the work without needing continuous supervision. They are generally well-adapted to functioning in remote locations, project based undertakings, and carrying out research in disparate areas, where autonomy plays a paramount role and obstacles: consistent control and interference from other departments, are missing. To corroborate, Elon Musk admits  Tesla benefitting from this model by engaging creative people in independently-managed endeavors aimed at discovering new technologies: their premier product, the electric car.

Having said that, barring a few venues where inventions are targeted, most other departments of modern undertakings must be populated by the staff that can synchronise their jobs with their counterparts in other divisions, by virtue of their operations and productivity hinging on the efficiency churned out by others sections. To exemplify, the business turnover of the sales department heavily relies on efficient execution of tasks by manufacturing and planning, supply chain management and after sales service. In these cases communication, collaboration, and sharing of responsibility take the center stage, mandating employing efficient team players.

In hindsight, selecting personnel with ingenuity and capability to operate independently, or opting for ones to function in a group, depends on distinctive requirements: their aim is to create the best fit that can help attain organizational objectives.

Some people believe that it is better for company decisions to be made only by managers, while others think that it is beneficial to involve employees in the decision-making process. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Some people believe that it is better for company decisions to be made only by managers, while others think that it is beneficial to involve employees in the decision-making process. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Only Managers should take decisions

  • They will make decisions from a broader perspective: departmental or even at an organizational level

  • Those at management levels carry rich exposure  and also the qualifications that afford them the ability to gain a deeper insight into various aspects of a matter

Employees should be engaged also

  • They are better apprised about the ground reality of the working conditions and also impediments facing them in smooth operations

  • This will make workers feel acknowledged and more attached to the organization, inspiring them to devote themselves more profoundly

As per a common perception, the task of devising plans, and future course of actions should be confined to those working on managerial positions, whereas some commentators suggest that personnel should also be a part of this exercise.

Undeniably,  those responsible for managing sections, departments, or even the whole establishments, should be vested with this task, the policies defined by them are based (founded) on a much broader perspective than ones employed at the middle, or lower rung(level), of the organizational hierarchy; they have access to information on requirements of disparate factors: human resources; financial and operational constraints, and strengths; and timelines, to name a few, making them more capable of resolving the issues, or embracing adequate strategies for seamless operations. This also helps circumvent confusion, and chaos, resulting from involving multiple layers of an entity. To corroborate, most of the large organizations such as, Delta Airlines, and so forth, with branches spread world over deploy this method  to allow faster planning, and implementation, thereby deriving efficient operational outcomes.

Nevertheless, using the intellect, opinions, and suggestions of workers engaged at operational levels, or in blue collar occupations, can help surmount challenges posed by the real issues facing them, and inform decision-makers about the ground realities of the actual functional aspects. This can facilitate a detailed insight of how resources are used in each department, inefficiencies, and hurdles impeding smooth work. Companies like Google, and various renowned hotel chains, encourage interaction with all the staff, aiding them in discovering comprehensive remedies, and defining goal-specific plans.

In hindsight, both the arrangements have distinct rewards to offers, where the former can ensure a flawless overall functioning of the business, the latter can assist in removing bottle-necks, and finding quick solutions targeting specific operations.

Introduction 1

Organizations run efficiently on effective decision-making, but should this process be the domain of higher management only,or should personnel be also made a part of this, is a matter that evokes mixed responses.

In this tech-savvy world, a group of people propound that young minds are best decision makers and more suitable for managerial roles; however, others believe experienced supervisors are more proficient for such tasks. This essay shall delve deeper into this matter and draw a plausible conclusion.

Many believe young adults are broad-minded, energetic, tech savvy and quick decision makers. They can effortlessly set precedents for their subordinates, and are open to feedback from their juniors. Similarly, by virtue of being educated in an environment influenced by modern concepts and technology, they can engage modern methods and technology for making quick decisions and ensuring well-being of working staff. To corroborate a survey by Times that reveals that a majority of personnel are comfortable working under young individuals; they experience better workplace culture, and their suggestions are welcomed by top management.

Nevertheless, some  argue that leadership qualities can only be augmented with seasoning: those who have been through the thick and thin can plan and manage effectively. Old executives are well-organized and possess expertise in their subject matter, which is a boon for both organization and human resources. Moreover, they have a pragmatic vision and their accomplishments help them make accurate predictions. Workers supervised by them feel assured, inquisitive and gain valuable experience from by operating under their aegis. According to one study, organizations facing operational challenges prefer to hire personnel in their forties or fifties, in principal roles as their involvement can be beneficial for the growth of business and staff.

Overall, I partially concur with this notion, for where the business needs to embrace modern technology like IT, those in their young age can effectively lead from the front, but when it comes to strategic forays, older workers are more suitable for governance.

Nowadays, companies are trying to increase the sales of their products in various ways. What are the different methods that they use? Which one is the most effective?

Modern industries are profoundly concerned about raising their sales, and they attempt to figure out various alternatives to multiply these numbers. Thus, I will be discussing the different approaches being followed by organizations and the most feasible  amongst them.

Myriads of strategies are adopted by the companies: the most prominently used these days is advertisement. This is not only done offline - through printed media and hoardings - but has also captured online platforms such as social media. These days manufacturers are producing goods as per the demands of the consumers to enjoy an upper hand in the market supply.

Similarly,  to win over the competition, an ever-rising number of companies are tempted to invest humongous amounts in packaging – whether it is primary, or secondary - since  nowadays, packaging plays a major role in bolstering the sale of the product. It has been observed that it is a human tendency to become fascinated by something that appeals to the eye, and packing does wonders many times.

Out of the slew of various strategies being deployed to lure consumers, adverts have emerged as the most potent policy. This is underpinned by a survey conducted at the international level; it clearly shows that publicity is the most effective way to gain lead over the competition. There is a psychological reason behind this. It has been seen that people get more attracted to the products which they see more frequently on social media or other mediums. As a result, they end up buying them whenever they go shopping. Thus, increasing the product turnover.

Overall, almost all businesses are highly focused on the consumer needs, and therefore, making changes in their marketing tools accordingly - to remain in the competition. Also, investing huge amounts in promotional policies, R&D etc. helps sales grow.

Some people think that climate change could have negative effect on business. Others think that climate change could create more business opportunities. Discuss both views and your own opinions.

In contemporary times, a drastic change in the climate in all regions of the world has been observed. This phenomenon has alarmed some experts who fear that this would fetch an umpteen number of disadvantages for businesses; however, the other lobby dissents and thinks otherwise. This essay intends to discuss both views.

To embark upon discussion, the change in weather conditions could have adverse effects on several businesses which could lead to enormous amounts of loss on the economic front. To exemplify, crops require specific climatic conditions in order to yield a rich harvest. Increase in temperature or water content in the atmosphere could result in harming the crops, affecting the overall agricultural productivity, and leading to financial loss to farmers. Moreover, this shift has caused several glaciers to melt due to notable rise in the temperatures, which has increased the sea levels to a great extent, exposing many coastal cities to a threat of submerging and endangering several businesses dwelling in those areas.

Nevertheless, there are a few who claim this process to be beneficial and propound that it would help several businesses to prosper. Due to change in environmental conditions, many companies would endeavour into innovating new products to address the transforming requirements; hence, creating several new job opportunities and rendering more profits. For instance, to deal with the deteriorating quality of air because of change in climatic conditions, a company started building large air purifiers which have been installed in many countries to decontaminate the air. This has fetched enormous amounts of revenues to the organization.

Overall, despite both views being justified, I personally side with the view that such change in weather would be more disastrous to businesses and will result in greater economic loss to the many.

The growth of online shopping will one day lead to all shops in towns and cities closing. Do you agree or disagree?

The growth of online shopping will one day lead to all shops in towns and cities closing. Do you agree or disagree?

It is an incipient reality that digital stores are becoming immensely prevalent across the globe and may certainly develop into a peril for local shops to exist. I agree with this notion and will discuss my views below.

Ecommerce portals are strongly based on artificial intelligence, constantly collecting colossal amounts of data every second about inclination of consumers and are bombarding users with a surfeit of choice of products along with price comparisons and real reviews that help the audience make an informed purchase decision. This phenomenon is going to gain momentum in coming days and lure more and more into buying from these webstores, which makes the future of markets look gloomy. Furthermore, the ease of buying from comfort zones with minimal or no efforts is going to go in the favor of such e-portals, as predicted that drained of energy people who also would lack time to visit stores, would chose the former over the latter, thereby depriving shops of their business and forcing them to close

However, as  those skeptic of this possibility suggest that there still will be a section, who will be impervious to the new age digital transactions for reasons of cyber security and personalized consumer experience. Irrespective of superlative assurances and guarantees by the E-stores, it will be impossible to eliminate the bespoke, touch and try experience and transactional safety for any kind of merchandise. Also, the traditional familiarity of exploring a range of shops coupled with a leisure getaway would continue to engender people to engage in physical shopping endeavors.

Overall, despite optimism being expressed by the supporters of physical stores that these shall never cease to exist, there is a conspicuous rationale  behind the opinion that online shopping will dominate and push markets out of business.

Some people believe that manufacturers and supermarkets should minimise the packaging material used. However, others think that consumers should avoid heavily packaged goods. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

There is nowadays an intriguing debate brewing up, due to the material used in wrapping things, that who should work to put a halt to this practice. There is a lobby that justifies that this initiative should be taken up by producers and retailers, while others believe that shoppers should refrain from buying such goods. I will discuss both the views in the following paragraphs.

The appealing material used in wrapping leads to the depletion of natural resources. By minimising the utilisation of packaging material, ones producing the merchandise can help nip the evil in its bud, and contribute towards the environment; saving energy used in the production process. As a result, this will aid in curbing the pollution emitted in the procedure. Furthermore, promoting such an act would instil a sense of responsibility in them towards safeguarding the environment.

Similarly,  manufacturers could save a considerable amount of money by reducing the usage of wrapping material. This cost-cutting would result in generating a rich profusion of profits, thereby, flourishing several sectors like manufacturing and retail. The benefits accrued will be in form of lower operational costs, the benefit could be also passed down to the consumers in form of lower prices, augmenting  business in the process.

However, the other lobby suggests consumers should don the mantle of such a task, they rule the roost and carry the power to bring in changes quite rapidly. If the buyers start abstaining from over-packed goods, the producers and sellers will be forced to spring into action: they unsold stock will bleed their resources and cause them losses, persuading them quickly to surrender to the will of their audience and stop this wasteful practice.

To reiterate, after assessing both the views,  I feel that such initiatives, like curbing over packing, should be jointly handled by both the parties. When the objective involves the noble cause of protecting the environment, everyone sharing and exploiting it, should join hands.

The growth of online shopping will one day lead to all shops in towns and cities closing

The onslaught of online shopping portals has raised the likelihood of these overwhelming shops, and thus the latter might cease to exist. But will this really happen, or not has profoundly intrigued many.

The opinion of retail outlets shutting down their business in wake of fast becoming ubiquitous e-shopping is based on the assumption that as people are becoming more and more engaged in the professional and social pursuits, they are likely have lesser and lesser time for an auxiliary activity like going for shopping.  They may prefer saving the efforts of visiting shopping districts or even nearby outlets and get the things delivered at their doorsteps.

However, many commentators consider this probability as a mere illusion. In their view retail stores can never shut their shops due to the trust they enjoy among billions of shoppers, who cannot imagine buying anything without physically inspecting the merchandise. Besides this, one can hardly discount the impatient shoppers who cannot wait to lay their hands on the goods as soon as they buy. For such people online buying shall always remain a distant dream, thereby letting the stores continue.

On top of that, the charm of visiting retail outlets will refuse to fade because of those innumerable buyers who perceive this activity as a leisure. Visiting shopping centres allows them a healthy distraction from the daily humdrum and break the mundane; and socialize with their nears and dears, and peers. For such people going shopping is a ritual which fetches immense pleasure and that is irreplaceable by online shopping.

Overall, I fail to concur with this statement that stores will be superseded by online shopping. Despite rapid spread of new ways of buying things the retail outlets will never cease to exist.
