Some countries have implemented a new work schedule with a four-day work week and three-day weekends. What are the advantages and disadvantages of adopting a shorter work week?

A new trend is surfacing: nations have applied an unprecedented working routine, where employees have to work for shorter durations during weekdays and weekends. This essay will discuss the merits and demerits for working for fewer days.

To start with, a lobby propounds that such arrangements make workers feel relaxed as they are not over-burdened with work, hence, making them more productive and efficient. Moreover, less travelling aiding the environment is another benefit of this practice. This is to say, one travelling to work tends to use fossil fuel-driven vehicles, which release colossal amounts of carbon dioxide into the air, and hence, augmenting air pollution. However, with this the impact on the environment will be mitigated when commuting to the workplace for a limited number of days.

Having said that, this phenomenon is also laden with cons too. A shorter working week means limited salaries. In other words, wherever regimes permit hourly wages, personnel get paid by days, and imposing a cap on the working schedules will precipitate a dearth of money. This will incapacitate many to fulfill their basic needs: food, clothing, and shelter. As a result, pushing many to look for a second job to manage their expenses. For example, in Japan, this policy is facing a public backlash since many are forced to find supplementary jobs in order to meet their expenses as the first job has a 3 days a week working routine, reducing their disposable incomes.

Nevertheless, there are many industries that rely on continuous service: healthcare, retail, and customer support, which may find it difficult to operate efficiently with fewer working days. This could lead to staff shortages, delays, reduced customer satisfaction, missed deadlines, and slower responses. To corroborate, a recent survey revealed that hospitals and emergency services must function around the clock, and deploying this arrangement could create serious staff shortages, or force longer shifts, and hence, this schedule might result in chaos for service-based and essential sectors.

In conclusion, the benefits are increased productivity and reducing environmental pollution through less commuting, but this is likely to impact sectors relying heavily on continuous services, where reduced working days could lead to staff shortages and operational inefficiencies.

Most people try to balance between work and other part of lives. Unfortunately, not many achieve this delicate balance. What are the main problems people are facing? What is the best way to overcome them?

A common challenge facing almost everyone, in contemporary times, is the inability to create a harmony between personal and professional domains, which often leads to umpteen challenges in various walks of life. This essay shall elucidate these issues and suggest some plausible remedies to surmount these.

The  most prominent complication resulting out of this phenomenon is the impact on physical and mental well being; most of the day is devoted to jobs, either by undertaking extensive travelling, or remaining stationary at work, leaving little time to focus on appropriate nourishment and exercise, and increasing vulnerability to variety of ailments: type-2 diabetes, hypertension, insomnia(sleeplessness), and so forth. Most urbanites, world over, highlight this factor by admitting that they have been predisposed to several diseases and disorders, owing to their failure to establish a synchronization between their work routine and other areas.

This does not stop here, as the ramifications of this can be felt in the families. Devoting time to spouses and children becomes nearly impossible, precipitating marital discord and alienation with the little ones. To illustrate, ninety percent of divorces in cities like London are attributed to imbalance between employment and familial time, causing differences and clashes among married couples

Nonetheless, although there is no panacea to this miserable condition, things can be improved if certain judicious measures are adopted: a clear line should be drawn between the time devoted to work, and personal realm; the family affairs should not be taken to office and vice-versa; and the working hours should be explicitly defined in conjunction with employers.

In hindsight, engendering an equilibrium between work and life is an arduous  task, and can result in numerous impediments in various spheres of life; therefore, prudence should be practiced to let distinct boundaries between two essential realms.

In some countries, it is illegal for employers to reject the people are applying for job because of his/her age.  Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

Being denied a job based on age is a quite ubiquitous practice worldover. However, some governments have come down strongly to discourage this arrangement and have laid strong fundamental rules, ensuring denying an application based on age is deemed unlawful. This although has been extolled as favorable, the set-backs it can cause to businesses cannot be overlooked.

It is becoming exceedingly evident that organizations have been coaxed into espousing a liberal approach related to hiring people: hire personnel meeting the selection parameters based on the required skill sets, regardless of their age. This policy has opened up a big horizon for those in the post retirement age, or freshers, wanting to offer something to the world, based on their talent. This major change in the job world has led to more satisfied employees, earning them financial security. Similarly, this is helping individuals circumvent mental afflictions, and inclination to engage in crime.

Having said that, a school of thought lambasts this policy and asserts that this can impact organizations adversely. It can lead to selection of candidates incongruous with the prerequisites of destined work, by virtue of lack of industrial experience, physical abilities, and so on, which could directly impact the performance of the organization. Many times, the consistently incrementing demand of staying up-to-date with technology has a potential to hinder the performance of aspirants short listed through this policy, impacting productivity, and consequently, the bottomline, proving to be a great disincentive to continue with their operations. Moreover, this could deprive institutions from selecting appropriately qualified and able-bodied aspirants, harming their interests in the long run.

Overall, dispute aside, despite fetching certain benefits for the affected individuals, this edict can undermine the efficiency of employers and wrest the authority from them to hire adequately suitable workers. I feel the state, instead of enacting such statutes,  should opt for more prudent policies.

When asked to choose between a life without work and working most of the time, people would always choose not to work.

When asked to choose between a life without work and working most of the time, people would always choose not to work. Do you agree or diagree?

When asked to choose between a life without work and working most of the time

Disagree

  • Earning money to subsist is a crucial activity which makes it imperative to work - this also affords freedom
  • Comforts and luxuries can only be afforded if one has enough money which can be obtained by employing oneself
  • Working is the best way to broaden professional and social circles and also perspective
  • It is good way of using time productively, idle mind is devil’s workshop, staying without work could lead people into pervert mindsets, taking up crime
  • Good for mental well being: keeps people away from depression and a feeling of being unproductivity
  • For some, attaining professional goals fetches eternal happiness
  • Humans have been subjected to working ever since they appeared on this planet. In ancient times, they spent most of their day, hunting for food, the only livelihood they had, in modern times they must work to earn food.

Agree

  • Many feel that life is not subject oneself to unwarranted stress and strife of chasing professional goals and raising desires, but spending it in the bliss of peace
  • Working many times involves spending more than the required time, which exposes one to ailments and sufferings, and also spoiling family relations

Whether one will choose to lead a life that sans professional engagements is a debatable issue that has fetched strong arguments both in favor and against.

A strange perception seems to be emerging among a specific section of social theorists who profess that if given an opportunity a majority would choose to stay jobless. This notion can, however,  be countered by quoting a strong rationale behind this aspiration not being a metaphor for a life most would like to inhibit, owing to their critical requirements and professional aspirations.

Barring a few, most would surely hardly enjoy a life  that sans professional obligations for long even if they elect to do so. A majority can rarely think of surviving without having a professional ambition to pursue. Being a gregarious  creature, man longs for professional and social associations, which can only be effectively afforded if one engages in fruitful endeavors – that can only be laid at disposal by undertaking professional pursuits. Even though one would still have social contacts when not doing work, they will remain confined to a few people and boredom would set in fast, making one feel useless.

Moreover, it is undeniable that a majority is quite enthusiastic about embracing a professionally active lifestyle: it can greatly help in not only making available basic amenities such as food, shelter and clothing  but also rendering resources to bestow upon them and their loved one several luxuries, besides helping amass enough for the rainy days, as well as twilight years. On top of that, one can also pursue their dreams of earning professional accolades and acknowledgment by exhibiting their skills and finesse, a far cry for their counterparts who choose to remain workless.

Overall, it can thus be said that the notion of choosing to remain unemployed is merely a figment of imagination promoted by some who are exhausted from chasing their ambitions. Therefore, I fail to subscribe to this statement.

Alternative Introductions

The contemporary  public discourse is founded on a notion that most would opt to be jobless if rendered an opportunity, which is strongly contested by a lobby that quotes that humans were not created to lead an idle and unproductive life; thus, few would like to inhabit such a lifestyle.

In an era when most are found striving to attain their professional goals, a perception seems to be emerging, across several quarters, that if rendered an opportunity, most will opt to remain jobless. However, this notion holds little substance as per another opinion.

Directors of large companies often receive much bigger salary increases than ordinary workers. Employers' organizations say that in the global market this is necessary to attract the best management talent. What are your views?

In contemporary times, several businesses have started following the practice of greater hikes to those working at director level, than common personnel in the pretext that this arrangement is essential to lure high fliers at global level. In my opinion this prospective needs to be critically analyzed

At the outset, the Rationale driving this policy  suggest that professionals engaging in directorial endeavors subject themselves to  the daunting task of not only managing the whole organization efficiently but also deriving tangible outcomes from their functions, whereas a worker employed at a lower level is only responsible for a limited scope of duties. This difference makes the former the deserving candidates for steeper pay raises

Moreover it is hard to deny that individuals working at such levels are equipped with extensive seasoning about dealing with diverse situations, formulating and implementing appropriate policies to surmount challenges and capitalize on opportunities, something that can only be effectively handled by a highly experienced professional. On top of that, they also bring along an expansive network of their global connections that helps enrich the experience of the organization that allows them to explore new markets and also grow their business footprint. Therefore they must be remunerated accordingly.

Having said that, there is some skepticism about this approach even though it is not so well-founded, that this disparity might cause disgruntlement among those employed at lower levels since they too have to bear extreme stress, and are responsible for implementation of policies and strategies. This could precipitate into lower productivity and higher employee turnover.

In hindsight, disputes aside, I vehemently opine that this method of engaging experienced seasoned professionals for assignments at director level is completely justified by virtue of their experience and contribution to the organization.

The performance of staff can have a significant impact on the success of a company. What can companies do to increase staff productivity?

The performance of staff can have a significant impact on the success of a company. What can companies do to increase staff productivity?

Employees are an asset to the company since their efforts guarantee productivity and profit; therefore, it is essential to ensure that they remain motivated to churn out continuous improvements. There are several methods that can help attain such goals.

To begin with, the workplace and the working conditions should be appropriate. Businesses should provide a safe and conducive work environment with adequate facilities - that can let workers be mentally and physically content, clean washrooms, proper lighting and cafeterias as comfortable surroundings can prevent workers from getting distracted. This, as a consequence, can bolster their focus on work and let them deliver excellent outcomes.

Moreover, organizations should render assurance about job security: this will offer a sense of security to the personnel about their future and they  will be able to devote their energy towards enhancing their performance. Also, other non-monetary inducements such as  health and medical support for the employees and their families can also be considered as an appropriate way of making sure that they remain committed to their work goals since such things will augment their feeling of belongingness to the organization.

Apart from that, the most commonly used method that has been termed as a panacea for boosting the morale of the workforce and persuading them to work harder is the financial stimulus. Undoubtedly, everyone works for the sake of money, and if they can obtain more than they usually earn - in the form of performance-based incentives,  bonuses and increments, they feel motivated and  encouraged to invest all their energy in helping their employers achieve unprecedented heights.

Overall, it is the sweat and blood of employees which helps companies to reach heights. Therefore, the staff productivity should be increased by keeping the workers motivated by appreciating their work and productivity.

It is quite common for both parents in a family to work. Sometimes this is because they need two salaries to survive whereas at other times it is their choice. What problems do you see in this situation? How does this affect the children and family life?

In the concurrent era, it has quite often been observed that both mothers and fathers are working professionals. Some opt to do it just to earn a living while others consider professional ambitions to be their utmost priority. This essay will discuss the issues engendered by this trend and find out how this phenomenon influences children.

Nowadays, mothers and fathers are intensively indulge in their professional endeavours, in order to realise their aspirations by virtue of which they fail to devote adequate time to their wards who get deprived of care as well as attention, which results in the creation of a void in their relationship that mitigates the mutual understanding between them, thereby leading to the weakening of ties. Such an evolution, as many fear, might cause alienation among them due to lack of emotional connection.  Moreover, parents fail to impart the numerous skills and values to their little ones, owing to which they fail to turn into rational adults in life later on.

Due to the gruelling work regimes, parents can ill-afford to keep round the clock vigil on their wards and in the process, entailing some severe repercussions such as distortions in the conduct of their latter. Since in the contemporary era, children are dominated by technology which plays an imperative role in shaping their personalities because these unchecked youngsters consider technology as their mentors, and sometimes expose themselves to the material meant for mature audiences which affects their psyche adversely.

To reiterate, due to the engagement in professional pursuits, parents are unable to strike a healthy balance between their work life and family which leads to the numerous severe outcomes by causing detrimental effects on the growing years of the young ones which might be irrevocable.

Many organisations and companies ask their staff to wear a uniform. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this? What kind of jobs should have a work uniform?

Many organisations and companies ask their staff to wear a uniform. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this? What kind of jobs should have a work uniform?

There are a plethora of enterprises that mandate their employees to follow a particular dress code. This essay shall discuss the merits as well as drawbacks of this trend and also discuss the occupations which must have uniform in their company policy.

There are certain failings of this arrangement. Incorporation of uniforms restricts the staff to demonstrate their true self, consequently affecting their moods and behaviour at work, since attires serve as a reflection of personality which also aid in boosting confidence. Furthermore, it becomes quite monotonous to consistently carry the same outfit.

However, deploying a work uniform extends safety at the workplace as this practice renders an ease in recognising outsiders among the crowd which helps in avoiding an unforeseen menace for the company as well as for the personnel. Moreover, this trend acts as a social equalizer by obliterating social fault lines between the haves and have-nots, and provides a healthy working environment exempt of all sorts of prejudice, thereby enriching the productivity of working professionals.

A predefined official attire code is indispensable for a wide array of jobs such as in the manufacturing industry where the staff may face jeopardy while dealing with hazardous chemicals for churning out a rich profusion of products. Similarly, electricians are intensively exposed to danger without safety gloves, shoes, and so on which are imperative to avoid the peril of getting electrocuted. In such occupations, dress code serves as a protective shield against a plethora of life-threatening risks.

To reiterate, despite some negative aspects of adopting uniform at a workplace for the staff, its positive aspects entirely eclipse/exceed/surpass the downsides since it is the onus on the organisations to prioritise safety and render a positive space to its employees.

Ielts Essay Uniform

Organization specific dress codes have become ubiquitous and almost all businesses, regardless of size, comply with the trend. This has led to an intriguing but a fierce debate about the benefits and downsides of this practice besides. One does wonder, however, about what work should follow a dress code.

Undeniably, standardized clothing patterns facilitate blurring differences and promoting harmony among personnel, hailing for diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. This makes colleagues abandon discrimination and  embrace homogeneity and instead pursue common objectives.  Also, corporate clothing is considered to be a highly acceptable method of rendering a distinction between levels of authority of those working at various levels of organizational  hierarchy, and role sets of those handling diverse jobs such as blue collar and white collar jobs.

Nevertheless, not many are convinced with the currently in vogue trend of sporting organization specified gear; they consider is disparaging. Their view is founded on beliefs that this acts as a mechanism that impedes, rather obliterating, creativity, and  promotes mental slavery and extreme reliance on following procedures, making people uneasy. Such an organization, as this lobby assumes, seldom sees productivity augmenting at every level, and is caught in procedural delays.

Despite the squabble about merits and demerits, the use of company defined attire code is a must in organizations that have specific role-sets such as armed forces, law enforcement agencies which help afford reassurance to citizens, and those which rely on public relations and outreach since the outfits of their personnel exude approachability and friendly attitudes.

In hindsight, wearing or foregoing a predefined ensemble has been eternally argued for ages though practice continues to thrive unabated, even in the modern emancipated world, in a new manifestation though. I feel it exudes unity, homogeneity and sense of obligation; thus, outshining alleged pitfalls.
