The astronomical sales being achieved by the consumer companies depicts the power of advertisement, rather than the need of the society where they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The astronomical sales being achieved by the consumer companies depicts the power of advertisement, rather than the need of the society where they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Of late, it has been observed that companies are increasing their sales of products through advertisements, while others dissent with this notion. In my view, publicity has little to do with increment in business turnovers.

It is assumed that businesses use celebrities to endorse their goods through ads, by virtue of which, many procure the promoted material by seeing their idols, and follow the latest trends on the face value without realizing their real need. For instance, youngsters purchase gadgets of latest technology and discard their old ones despite being in ideal condition. However, such instances are confined to a limited section of impulsive buyers.

Similarly, some also suggest discounts publicized, such as buy two get one free, attract many and create a niche for products. Furthermore, specific ads are made to target certain segments of the society, and the agenda in those commercials connect the viewers emotionally and morally. For example, insurance agencies focus on the life of family members after the death of bread earners, and hence, achieve humongous sales.

Nevertheless, the real factors driving sales include the spurt in population, the demand for the merchandise is directly proportional to the number of buyers, and the current circumstances have precipitated  (led to) humongous requirements for manufacturing. Additionally, with the advent of technology, devices are constantly incorporated with updated features, promoting a habit to use and throw, a chance to flaunt prized possessions. This culture is partially attributed to banks that provide loans in minimal EMIs, and in this scenario, advertising has little role to play except informing consumers.

In hindsight, advertisements play an insignificant role in boosting sales, instead, demographic rise, constant innovations, consumerist behavior, and affordability predominantly determine the consumer needs, leaving publicizing out of the picture.
