Television has become an integral part of modern childhood, and its influence on the young minds has sparked considerable debate. While some individuals argue that watching TV is harmful to children, others contend that it can be beneficial if used appropriately. This essay will analyze both perspectives and present a plausible conclusion.

Critics believe that television can have negative effects on the development of juveniles  - excessive screen time often leads to physical inactivity, which contributes to obesity and other health problems. To exemplify, a recent survey conducted by Amity University, asserts that 40 percent of youngsters spend more time in front of TV rather than engaging in other activities such as sports, gyms, yoga, to name a few, promoting sedentary lifestyle. Furthermore, there are certain programmes that expose children to violence, inappropriate language, or unrealistic lifestyles, which can distort their understanding of the real world.

Having said that, TV can also be a powerful educational tool when used wisely, channels such as discovery, N-Geographic, or BBC render programmes that stimulate curiosity and enhance knowhow about science, history, and culture - helps develop language skills, creativity, and moral values. Moreover, these mediums could be a means of family bonding when parents watch programmes together with their children, discuss the content, and guide them towards critical thinking. Undoubtedly, it serves as an alternative  to formal education and supports overall development.

In hindsight, watching TV could have detrimental effects on their juveniles but if it is unregulated; nonetheless, if engagement times are limited, only age appropriate content is made accessible, and mothers  and  fathers  engage with their children while watching, television could be an enriching and enjoyable experience, and the  unfavorable impact can be circumvented.
