Damage to the environment is an inevitable consequence of worldwide improvements in the standard of living. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
A prominent section of environmentalists suggest that strivings for registering progress has precipitated unavoidable destruction of the ecology. The following paragraphs shall critically analyse this notion, and elucidate and justify disagreement with this perspective.
An army of people connected with environmental initiatives fear that attempts to log unprecedented progress has predisposed nature to reckless and indiscriminate exploitation, and irreversible harm. For example, rampant deforestation is still being carried out to create space for farming-to grow food; factories for producing goods; residential, commercial and institutional facilities, to accommodate growing/expanding population, businesses, shops and hospitals, among others, thereby destroying numerous natural habitats.
Similarly, emissions from factories, automobiles, besides the residual trash being dumped and discharged into all three spheres of the environment: land, water and air, are turning the Earth inhospitable, incapable of supporting life. To corroborate, global warming is speeding up, affecting the flora and fauna, and distorting their behaviour. Moreover, the marine environment is being impacted by high carbon content, plastic, and so forth, jeopardizing aquatic life.
Nevertheless, despite the concerns being expressed being justified, a turn around is being brought by innovative and sophisticated tools in methods that will change the fortunes of the planet. Vertical cities and farming are being aggressively promoted, and fortunately gaining acceptance, which will allow rewilding. Additionally, governments are committed to make greener fuels and recycling, the mainstay of activities carried out in industrial, commercial and household sectors. These factors cumulatively will ensure delinking development from the environment, and promise a sustainable future for inhabitants and surroundings.
In hindsight, while the concerns raised about the planet becoming vulnerable to rapid deterioration are justified, the scenario has been rapidly transforming due to the advent of up-to-date technologies that will ensure mitigation of environmental complications and allow advancement autonomously.
