Politicians are more responsible for the protection of the environment than individuals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Many suggest that it is a duty of the lawmakers to take prudent action towards saving the environment, while others believe that it is also a responsibility of citizens.
To begin with, lawmakers enjoy jurisdiction over the land and have powers to make laws to persuade people into following more eco-friendly policies. They can implement such approach in different reforms like they can mandate youngsters to participate in different tree planting drives to get their high school, college degree, they can reduce taxes on factory owners who follow sustainable and more greener ways, and so forth, or they can levy heavy penalties on individuals who are not following these practises. Furthermore, these policies can also impact the populace at large, as these are implemented as laws, and will be taken seriously like other important laws of the nation.
Having said that, citizens cannot escape this responsibility since they are the source of this mess, and thus, nip the evil in its bud. To corroborate, UNESCO published an article in 2010 stating that seventy five percent of the Japanese population shifted towards public transport and the number is likely to reach ninety percent in 2018, resulting in reduction of carbon emissions. Besides this, they have started using more recycled material reducing carbon footprint up to eighty percent.
In hindsight, I think it is not just the sole responsibility of the regime to save the planet but the public too as they will be badly impacted by the deteriorating ecology. Besides this, it is them who become policy makers.
