A school of thought has stated that, number of issues related to the rise in population and environmental factors will create inhospitable conditions to those who are residing into urban areas. However, opposition to this notion believes technological advancement will tackle these obstacles. This essay will delve deeper into both arguments before arriving at a plausible verdict.

On the one hand, every developing city has enormous opportunities for every individual. Which is the major reason behind rising migration towards urban areas.  However, this is turning into a potential burden on urban infrastructure such as housing, and cost of living. For example, average apartment prices and rents in Vancouver have doubled within a span of 5 years. In addition to this, pollution is a very common issue  in the most advanced cities, caused by industry and automobiles. Major cities such as New Delhi, India are already facing these consequences where air quality has become extremely poor and harmful.

On the other hand, even though technological development in recent years has introduced some drawbacks, these are eclipsed by advantages. The focus of scientists has shifted toward improving living conditions. For instance, EV cars such as Tesla hold great promises for environmental damage mitigation, and it will make a huge difference in the future as well. Furthermore, modern housing designs, primarily vertically-oriented with small but all the amenities are rendering solutions for current housing problems. For example, Singapore has  shifted to building skyscrapers that house affordable dwellings for every individual, and are becoming popular with the local populace.

To conclude, there is no doubt modern cities are dealing with a number of problems even in well-developed countries. However, technological innovation has given greater hope of overcoming them in the future that seems promising.
