Some people say industrial growth is necessary to solve poverty, while some believe it should be stopped due to the environmental problem it creates. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Industrialization is the only key factor that can help alleviate penury
It is creating venues for employment and survival
Creating mediums for human skills development that guarantee better incomes
It is supporting innovation in every domain and making equitable distribution of the outcomes to everyone
Driving a shift from agrarian economy to an industrial one, and laying foundation for a prosperous society
Should be halted
Leading to rampant pollution in every sphere through release of effluents in every domain
Causing deforestation and robbing flora and fauna of their habitats, which could be prove to catastrophic
Reckless exploitation of resources, thereby hampering nature.
Industrial progress alone can guarantee prosperity, but some vehemently argue that it should be halted in order to protect the planet. This mandates critical analysis of this debate before drawing a justified conclusion.
Those lobbying for arresting industrial sprawl to avert environmental catastrophe, assert that this has extensively damaged all the spheres of nature: land, air, and water. Large swathes of land have been cleared to make way for farming, manufacturing, and other commercial activities, resulting in rampant deforestation, and wiping out several natural habitats. Moreover, the effluents being discharged into the air and water bodies, have engendered deterioration in the quality of air, and jeopardized marine life, raising fears that its unabated continuation will turn the planet into inhospitable.
However, although concerns highlighted by the environmental protection groups carry substance, discouraging industrial footprint is unlikely to help. The current pollution levels are more attributable to the past industrial forays, than to recent developments, and can be countered only by deploying cutting-edge technologies. However, decelerating this progress will impede creation of innovative mediums - critical for revitalizing the planet, and rob people of their earnings - industry is the major employment generator, which justifies continuation of this advancement.
Similarly, proliferation of industry has also ensured equitable distribution of resources by facilitating mass production, thereby laying affordable qualitative goods and services at the disposal of even the most marginalized: food, healthcare, education, communication, and so forth. This has helped make lives easier and create opportunities for a more secure future through better nutrition, skill generation and healthcare support.
Overall, while it is justified for the environment enthusiast to worry about the impact of the progress being made to enhance the quality of life, it cannot be put on the back seat because it is pivotal to a sustainable future.
