Tobacco and alcohol are drugs that cause addition and health problems. Should they be made illegal? Or should all drugs be legalized?
A school of thought states that drugs like tobacco and liquor should be banned as these lead to addiction which is difficult to reduce. The following paragraphs will state reasons to justify proscribing these products.
To commence with, alcohol can significantly affect the mental and physical well-being of individuals; consuming these products makes users impulsive and hamper their productivity as well. For instance, an experiment conducted by John Bavo, a doctor at AIIMS, Delhi between two groups, one that consumed alcohol and others who did not. It was revealed in the test that the former group was not able to accomplish the task on time and depicted aggressive behavior, whereas the latter showed an assertive approach and completed the task before time.
Furthermore, substances such as tobacco contain harmful ingredients such as carbon oxide; using these for a longer period of time will create health problems: cancer, liver failure, heart disease, and so forth. A recent published article, The Times Of India, stated that eight out of ten individuals consuming cigarettes were prone to lung disorders which are impossible to cure by medicines.
Having said that, drugs should not be allowed at all, as these cause addiction, and an increment in crimes committed by the addicted. To corroborate, when one consumes these substances even in small amounts, they are emboldened, lose their sense of direction, and harm others, leading to sometimes fateful outcomes. In a report, revealed by Delhi police, it was shown that after consuming narcotics such as heroin, almost every user acts dangerously, and jeopardizes the safety of others.
In conclusion, alcohol and cigarettes should be outlawed as these cause immense harm to not only those consuming these but also others around them, besides resulting in lower productivity and health complications.
