Because of the global economy, many goods including what we use as daily basics produced by other countries have to be transported for a long distance. To what extent do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
In contemporary times, one of the major benefits of globalization is the easy import and export of various goods. Some people opine that such an arrangement carries more merits than demerits; however, a lobby does not concur with the former notion and thinks otherwise. This essay intends to discuss both sides.
Trading of goods between nations is helping fetch umpteen favourable outcomes, the primary being people are able to enjoy a plethora of products: high quality almonds that are rich in nutrients from California, dates from UAE and avocado from Mexico, to name a few, which cannot be produced locally due to various factors such as climate and kind of soil. Similarly, exports of several products to other countries is opening scope for local vendors to scale up on international platforms. As a result, it is supporting economies by bringing overseas markets within their reach. Also, it is assisting in building stronger bonds with other countries.
However, a few dissent with the aforementioned statement and assert that trans global transportation of commodities is causing humongous pollution, generated from various modes of transport such as airplanes, trains and ships. On top of that, in some cases, where certain food items are being exported, manufacturers add preservatives in order to increase the shelf life of those products, thus making them unhealthy to consume. A survey conducted by University of California concluded that most of the food products which are imported from other countries consist of high levels of preservatives which could lead to several ailments when consumed for a longer duration.
Overall, although there are some disadvantages of international trade, its pros definitely outshines its cons as this phenomenon is making available goods not produced in various parts of the world besides creating harmonious relationships between nations.
