Reasons

Why to change this trend

Female learners are usually seen opting for the humanities stream, while males prefer STEM.This can be attributed to several reasons, but must be halted as quickly as possible, for such orthodox social stereotyping is harming society.

To commence with, the primary driver of this pattern is the traditional thought process that has created gaps between the expectations from both the sexes.Traditionally, women have been vested(assigned) with the task of looking up to the family and rearing offspring, and thus, if they are expected to engage in professional endeavors, they are persuaded to join domains that require minimal investment of time and efforts. However, males have always donned the rules of begetters (bread earners),so such selection preferences have been hard wired into their brains, and seeking anything else is considered below their dignity.

Having said that, banishing this arrangement holds critical value for the progressive future of mankind;this will help remove misconceptions about occupations being dependent on specific qualities exhibited by each sex,and create equitable opportunities for all, based on their individual aptitude rather than them being males or females. For instance,  female scientists and engineers have proven that  technology and research are not the forte of only men, and similarly male artists have firmly established that art is also their cup to tea. Moreover, eliminating this misconception(ill-conceived perception) will help society tremendously since it will be able to harness the skills of every inhabitant in all fields, whether it is technical or creative.

In hindsight, societal norms are the biggest hurdles in the path of blurring sex-based inequality in the occupational realm;therefore, getting rid of obsolete aspirations is critical for creating a society that optimally utilises its human resources , instead of impeding the progress  of pivotal professional acumen.

A great gender-based variance is observed when it comes to selecting subjects out of formal curriculum, with females opting for humanities stream, and males preferring STEM.This harmful pattern is driven by orthodox social stereotypes, and must be eradicated.
