It is commonly believed that family immigration with an intention of seeking greener pastures, can fetch umpteen benefits, but do these eclipse the challenges this process poses, is a matter that needs a critical analysis.

The exodus to  the other parts of the world, generally affluent, to realise professional ambitions, along with spouse and children, can precipitate  ease in settlement in alien surroundings by preventing  the feeling of homesickness among settlers. Where those working are spared of lonely surroundings haunting their homes, and the desire to be with their loved ones, family members also do not have to worry about the safety of those shifting to other countries. The skilled family immigration programmes hosted by countries like Canada and Australia are the true specimen that highlight the relevance of such a propensity, allowing effortless integration with the host society.

Similarly, it becomes uncomplicated to monitor the rearing of the little ones; they can get all the attention of both the parents, together with the guidance. Moreover, this can deepen the trust and the bonding between two generations since youngsters have no one to rely upon other than their families.

Having said that, one major complication that is cited quite often from such relocation is the next generation becoming detached from their native ways of life, rituals, and extended families. Some migrant families have reported experiencing such difficulties, wherein their wards find it hard to embrace their own traditions, and communicate with their cousins.

In hindsight, I concur with the statement that the rewards of relocating with family members to other regions of the globe, in search of work, outshine the drawbacks, and firmly believe that the latter can be overcome by engaging children in cultural activities of their home country, available in the destination society.
