Recently, teenagers have not been following rules and their parents’ advice. Is this good or bad?

In concurrent times, umpteen adolescents are becoming more aggressive  towards making decisions in their life on their own. In the following paragraphs, I intend to delve deeper and consider various factors before deciding whether this conduct is favorable, or unfavorable.

To start with, teenagers can turn themselves into independent and self-sufficient personalities, capable of developing critical thinking skills and ability to make unfettered decisions. This can be helpful for their personal growth and intellectual  development. Overlooking rules and advice from elders can allow them to explore their values, preferences and beliefs on their own, letting them adapt to changing times rapidly and responsibly, and use their innate instincts for the potential benefits.

However, not following rules and advice of the elders might lead to risky behavior, such as engaging in dangerous activities, or poor academic performance. Also, Some rules are in place for legal and safety reasons, and disregarding them can lead to negative consequences, including legal trouble, or physical harm. To corroborate, a recent spurt in cases of vandalism and incidence of shop-lifting, across the world, is attributed to those aged from thirteen to eighteen.

Similarly, while challenging norms is valuable, completely disregarding advice could mean missing out on important life lessons that adults are trying to impart based on their experiences. Moreover, the approach could strain their relationships with parents, friends and relatives. It has been seen that such young individuals often grow up as being detached from their loved-ones, leading a life that does not comply with social norms.

Overall, despite outcomes of this context completely depending on the behavior and attitude of teens, this attitude can be deemed as positive. But, I do feel discussion between parents, and teenagers is the key to navigate complex terrain.
