Most high level jobs are done by men. Should the government encourage a certain percentage of these jobs to be reserved for women?

Should certain jobs be earmarked for females? Yes. Why?

  • Women do deserve equal opportunities for top jobs, as they are equally gifted, in terms of taking ownership

  • They are better operators in certain difficult conditions as they can remain calmer and judge better

  • This would enhance diversity of talent and also offer solutions from diverse perspectives that also include that of women

  • Let females earn their due and break the  stereotype image by even persuading their families to take up these roles

  • Society is bound to benefit when the half of the population gets to contribute to economic and social progress

No. Why?

  • Although a misconception that is disjointed from reality; conservatives feel men make better leaders

  • This might leave some top jobs deprived  of able leadership if some able women candidates are not found

The suggestion regarding earmarking a certain proportion of leadership posts for women invites mixed reactions even though the proposal holds great substance, that shall be elucidated in the following paragraphs.

The suggestion regarding earmarking a certain proportion of leadership posts for women invites mixed reactions. The following proposal shall be profoundly analyzed in the following paragraphs.

Many schools of thought vouch for the notion that females are equally gifted and sometimes prove to be better leaders; they have been excelling in any roles allocated to them in disparate domains - ranging from leading profit centers to prospering businesses, but their candidature is seldom considered due to the orthodox views harbored by those at the top. Embracing this arrangement will help ensure that they get their due.

Also, women do deserve equal opportunities for top jobs, as they are effective motivators. They act as beacons for their family, children and acquaintances, and have always inspired others to attempt to attain pinnacle. Thus, reserving some places needing one to take ownership, for them will help society harness this talent and derive excellent outcomes in terms of productivity at organizational level. Similarly, this would enhance diversity of talent and also offer solutions from disparate perspectives, both male and female, allowing a better mixture of energy that the former are known for, and the patient observations that latter are bestowed with.

Having said that, there is some skepticism regarding such settings. It is feared that this might precipitate unfair treatment to the better qualified, simply overlooked due to their gender, eventually, leading to resistance and backlash from both the genders who believe in opportunities being offered on the basis of abilities rather than sexes, causing tensions and divisions in the workplace, affecting the work environment unfavorably.

In conclusion, the scheme of  keeping some percentage of top management slots aside for women cannot be deemed acceptable by most because it will lead to gender-based conflicts, fetching chaos in return.

Nowadays many people are trying to earn more and more to get rich. What are the advantages and disadvantages of being rich?

Nowadays many people are trying to earn more and more to get rich. What are the advantages and disadvantages of being rich?

Benefits - upsides -pros

  • One can afford a comfortable life to self and their families

  • One can lay all the luxuries at the disposal of their kin

  • One can plan for future well

  • One can also prepare for emergencies

  • Visibility in society and one enjoys a clout even in government

Detriment

  • Stressful

    • One is susceptible to crimes like robberies, kidnapping for ransom

    • Tax raids

    • One is engaged in an eternal race to sustain their status

    • They become victims of disdain / criticism also since they might be inflicted of depression due to this

  • One becomes arrogant

  • One becomes greedy and starts chasing affluence

  •

Rich - affluence - prosperity - elite - wealthy - deep pockets

Wealth has always enticed humans, making them crave to get the biggest bite of the apple of Adam; everyone is prepared to step out of their comfort zones to attain prosperity.  However, riches never arrive alone, for they bring along favors and detriments as companions, making it imperative to weigh both.

On the effulgent side, deep pockets afford a feeling of self-sufficiency as it becomes possible to lay every imaginable facility and amenity at the disposal of family and self, one does not have to struggle to make both ends meet. Similarly, prosperity also affords a lavish lifestyle, letting one enjoy the exploits of their financial abilities procuring swanky cars, luxurious mansions, going on expensive and exotic vacations, something that others can only imagine in their dreams.

Similarly, the wealthy are emancipated of worries about dealing with exigencies of disparate variety such as medical or other, by virtue of having enough savings by their side. In a similar manner, their tomorrow is as assured as today as they can invest into quality education of their offspring, aiding the latter in carving a bright  future, and also securing twilight years by putting money into secure investments.

However, the thorny bushes also greet the elite in abundance since vulnerability to the criminals for extortions, ransoms, tax complications - often unleashed on them by insidious taxation laws - can predispose them to sleepless nights and inflict them with afflictions such as depression in extreme cases. Additionally, pressure to sustain the status is overwhelming, making chasing an endless mirage  imperative.

Overall, despite fortune yielding desirable outcomes, one must be prepared to taste the sour fruit too lying embedded deep in the box. Thus, it is extremely essential to practice judiciousness suggested in annals, to enjoy riches and surmount shortcomings efficiently.

Childhood obesity is becoming a serious problem in many countries. Explain the main causes and effects of this problem, and suggest some possible solutions.

Introduction

The incidence of corpulence/obesity  among youngsters has  startled many health experts. They not only highlight the obvious grounds for such a phenomenon, as well as its impact, but also advise on the ways to stem this disturbing trend.

*Mention the solutions of the causes

Causes

  • Parents are the primary source of this physical condition among children. They follow faulty food habits; consume calorie rich food; watch television and play video games without engaging in any kind of physical activity. Children follow their precedents.

  • Parents pampering their wards by allowing the latter to consume anything they want, and introduce them to video games to compensate for the absence, young ones are confined indoors and seldom perform physical activities.

  • Peer pressure. Young minds also follow each other.

  • Glamorized promotion of fast food and  games that overwhelms young ones and pushes them to engage with such food and activities

Impact

  • Corpulence impedes mental and physical growth

  • They become lethargic

  • Exposes young ones to lifestyle diseases which usually hit them much later in life. Solutions

  • Parents should mend their habits - sparingly engage with games and television and take their children out

  • Parents must also adopt healthy eating habits and make it point to have at least one meal with their little ones.

  • Monitor and motivate their young ones

  • Schools should make it a point to regulate what can be brought as food in the school, and also promote physical activities.

SIMRANJEET

Nowadays, it has been seen that childhood corpulence is becoming alarmingly ubiquitous. The following paragraphs shall discuss the genesis behind this malady; its impact on the wellness of juveniles; and the plausible solutions to surmount this appalling challenge.

To start with, a school of thought believes that parents are the primary root source of this physical condition among youngsters: they are following the precedents of their elders by consuming rich calorie food, and follow indolent lifestyles by sitting at the same place for long hours watching television shows and playing electronic games; and following irregular sleeping patterns, causing them to gain weight and add to girth of their waists since the calories consumed are never burnt.

This physical state is precipitating some serious impact on the way of living of youngsters; being overweight hampers mental and physical well being as they become vulnerable to a myriad of lifestyle ailments - diabetes, hypertension and cardiac complications are more commonly found among such youngsters - at a very young age. Similarly, they are found lacking in  self esteem while engaging with others due to them becoming a butt of jokes for their friends and peers; consequently,  hampering their mental health.

However, there are some remedies to overcome these issues: parents should mend their habits - sparingly engage with games and television and take their children out for curricular activities. They must also adopt healthy eating habits and make it a point to share at least one meal with their little ones, teaching the latter to cultivate healthy eating habits and gain knowledge about good nutrition.

Overall, I personally believe that by monitoring young ones can easily help them to adapt to healthy routines: eating nourishing meals and engaging in physical endeavors, and consequently, evading corpulence.

Safety standards are important when building peoples’ homes. Who should be responsible for enforcing strict building codes – the government or the people who build the homes?

Safety standards are important when building peoples’ homes. Who should be responsible for enforcing strict building codes – the government or the people who build the homes?

State. Why?

  • They have the authority and resources to ensure strict compliance. Almost everyone will follow since they do not want to be penalized

  • They have the expertise to also cross-check and update the norms according to the requirements - they can create area-specific requirements such after conducting seismic studies

  •

People building homes

  • They are the ones who are actually doing to the construction

  • This will ensure smooth deployment without any bias

  • They will be directly impacted by any mishaps

Of late, a fierce argument has been doing rounds about who should take the onus of deploying building by-laws to oversee appropriate construction of dwelling units. While some believe lawmakers should be responsible for this, others lay the onus on those undertaking such activities.

To begin with, an army of experts believes that people should take the onus of following security regulations; they are the ones who actually construct homes. Moreover, they can ensure the smooth development of their residential places without any bias to ensure the safety of their families and the surroundings. Adding to this, they will be direct victims of any mishaps happening due to even their minute negligence. For example, people using substandard material in building residential units create hazardous conditions for themselves and their neighbors and heighten the chance of humongous damage to material and life in case of any  natural or man-made accidents.

Nevertheless, some defy the former notion and propounds that since policy makers possess the power to create the laws for the welfare of the public at large, and can take strict actions against the defaulters, even penalizing them to ensure that everyone follows the implemented norms without any reluctance, they should this mantle. Also, they have all the resources to provide appropriate guidance and even modify, or update them with changing trends and requirements of the world. Similarly, they can form area specific rules to bolster the protection level of the individuals, affording them conventions that can ensure appropriate safeguards against unwarranted events like natural calamities.

Overall, I opine that since governing bodies have the authority and funds to form the laws to ensure welfare of the citizens and everyone follows the enacted norms willingly, they should don the mantle to ensure adherence to building norms.

Shopping habits depend more on your age group than anything else. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Shopping habits depend more on your age group than anything else. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Shopping has manifested itself more broadly, and many are scampering to discover the attributes that drive this propensity. Some feel that it is the age that has  a major influence, while others blame it on numerous factors. In the forthcoming paragraphs, I will analyze both the sides of coins and share my inclinations.

To start with, a school of thought harbors a conventional belief that age is the primary factor that influences every individual. To corroborate,  young groups crave fashionable clothes, new gadgets and keeping themselves updated. It has been seen that a majority of people are constantly changing their smartphone to stay in sync with the vogue, while those in middle and old age tend to focus on basic needs of their families, in which most of them are found prioritizing their monthly budgets rather than spending their earnings on something that does not serve their direct purpose.

However, the other lobby has different perspectives and believes that wealth is the motivational force behind shopping approaches, for it has  turned this undertaking into a leisure for the elite, and a way of fulfilling their requirements for others. A survey carried out by the Hindustan Times found under eighteen students who had a penchant to collect the smartphones of Samsung brand had almost more than fifty devices. On the other hand, those from average income groups had only enough budget to afford not more than one mobile phone. Moreover, availability of resources in the market also influences the public to buy new products, especially when their famous celebrities endorse something in adverts.

In hindsight, despite the fact that age has some influence on buying attitudes, I align myself with the notion that multiple factors such as wealth, advertisements and surroundings are the driving factors.

While recruiting a new employee, the employer should pay more attention to their personal qualities, rather than qualifications and experience. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give your opinion and include relevant examples.

Several commentators profess that recruiters should prioritize personal traits while selecting personnel over educational qualifications and experience. This notion needs a critical evaluation to extend a plausible conclusion.

Some propound that the concept of working has evolved over the years where simply academic qualification and experience do not suffice; one must interact with external and internal clients effectively, and carry the right attitude towards job responsibility. Also, it helps businesses to assess the aspirants correctly whether they are fit for the specific operations that organization is engaged in. To exemplify, for the roles of customer service representatives in the financial industry: managers tend to ask the situation-based questions and assess the attitude of jobseekers towards roles and responsibilities of customer care representatives in handling queries related to monetary matters, and determine their suitability for the job.

Moreover, it affords employers opportunities to assess whether one can manage stress and work under pressure through background checks. For instance, the multi-national companies like HCL, AXA XL, and so on, use techniques: comprehensive evaluation, and past references of selected candidates to assess their performances in the previous engagement. It aids in presenting a clear picture about the abilities of prospective workers, in terms of performing under pressure.

Nevertheless, the critics vehemently opine that the credentials and work experience play an equally significant role; there are several professional roles that require educational qualification: Chartered Accountants and Company Secretaries,  among others, these designations require technical dexterity, and appropriate seasoning, considered critical for resolving the difficult situations, and negotiating complex tasks efficiently.

To recap, academic background and professional exposure, and personal traits go hand in hand, these are the basic elements that are instrumental to successful engagement of personnel in an organization. Thus, all these factors must be allocated equal weightage.

Whether the age of shoppers plays a crucial role in defining purchasing propensity, or are there other attributes influencing this pattern, is a matter of profound debate. This essay partially agrees that all factors have a significant role in the behavior of shoppers, and shall elucidate its inclination in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, those who lend their support in favor of this tendency being underpinned by age harbor a conventional belief that  how old one is, is the driving factor that cultivates differences in shopping attitudes. Youngsters and people in middle ages, or even in twilight ages have disparate approaches when it comes to buying, where the former usually get inclined towards fashion, and are overwhelmed by peer pressure, the latter are driven by a motive to satisfying basic needs of families and keeping this endeavor within their budgets.

On the contrary, some propound that other factors also play a significant role in defining purchasing attitudes. This view finds its roots in umpteen causes; wealth and circumstances, with prosperity being the prominent factor of demarcation between the needs and wants. The affluent are passion driven and are able to adapt to lifestyles in vogue, whereas the impoverished always shop for fundamental essentials like bread and butter. Similarly, some are selective and wait for the appropriate opportunity, consider others things when going shopping. To corroborate, people wait to move into their own home and then buy furniture and fixtures rather than buying these for a  rented house.

Overall, undoubtedly, young ones and elderly have divergence in disbursing money for shopping purposes, but other elements do influence purchasing proclivity such as income and timings, it can be asserted that all generations do consider these factors while going shopping.

Telecommuting refers to workers doing their jobs from home for part of each week and communicating with their office using computer technology. Telecommuting is growing in many countries and is expected to be common for most office workers in the coming decades. How do you think society will be affected by the growth of telecommuting?

In contemporary times, many have started working from their homes. This new arrangement has been hailed as a path breaking technology that has  brought numerous benefits along for the society. However, one cannot deny that there are some failings associated with this new concept.

The growing prominence of working from home has affected all the stratas of the society positively. Many have benefited by being able to forego the pain of commuting, helping them achieve better work-life balance, consequently, augmenting their efficiency. Moreover, the establishments have also gained immensely in the form of reduced operational costs, in the form of lesser outlay on electricity and transport. Additionally, this setting has proved to be a  boon for the environment. A recent research has  revealed that since one million people in Delhi are working from home, it has taken approximately five million cars off the roads, thereby  reducing the emissions of harmful gases, and tremendously improving the quality of air.

However, it will be too naive to ignore failings of this concept. People have become prone to sedentary lifestyles which is taking a toll on health. A recent study has suggested those working remotely are more likely to develop fatal cardiovascular disorders. Also, man being a social animal, long term confinement to the home can hamper mental wellbeing too. Similarly, this setting has left many feeling despondent and depressed as they are unable to socialise and interact with the outer world which earlier was a source of relaxation for the most.

To conclude, in my view,  although telecommuting has  certain serious pitfalls, it is highly incumbent for personal and economic development of a society. Therefore, if the associated challenges are  addressed effectively, the sky will be the limit for making work and life happier and healthier.

Shopping habits depend more on your age group than anything else. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Shopping habits depend more on your age group than anything else. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Why age defines the approach towards shopping?

  • A conventional belief that age is the driving factor that makes people embrace distinct shopping attitudes: young people go for fashionable clothes, new gadgets, while the people in middle-aged and  old-aged group and tend to focus on the needs of their families and budgets

  • The shopping forays of youngsters are  fueled by peers, public icons and are frequent, whereas that of older people is need-driven and occasional

What other factors are more relevant

  • The wealth: there is a clear demarcation between the affluent - passion driven or a hobby, the middle income  and low-income groups a means to fulfill the requirements,  and the  impoverished - an endeavor to fulfill basic needs.

  • Availability of resources and circumstances is also influencing buying practices

  • The attitude of being a spendthrift, or prudent spender it is rather an innate skill

  • In contemporary times, people are adopting buying patterns that are in vogue

  • With the technology developing and companies releasing upgrades regularly, people are embracing consumerist attitudes - use and throw, regardless of their age and economic background.

  • Conventional and dynamic attitudes

  • Gender dependent - women shop more than their male counterparts

The debate around factors that define shopping patterns is the most heated. While some think that the age of shoppers is the influencing factor, others think differently.

A large lobby of people believes that shopping has become a critical part of the society which totally depends on the age of shoppers, while some suggest that there are other factors underlying this propensity.

To begin with, a school of thought propounds that age plays a crucial role in the shopping approach of individuals. For instance, young people are more inclined to purchase brand new products to keep up-to-date in the fashionable era and flaunt their possessions among their peers, while the people in their middle age and golden years try to buy something that aids them in fulfilling their basic necessities. Also, the shopping list of youngsters are more influenced by well-known celebrities, seniors and neighbors, which include modern clothes and latest gadgets. However, this is not the case with the older shoppers as they shop for medicines, food items and home equipment.

Having said that, some commentators believe that wealth plays a pivotal role in ascertaining shopping tendencies. The affluent buy what they like, but those with average incomes always go for the things that are high on priority; similarly, the underprivileged section shops to fulfill their basic needs. Moreover, buying attitudes are also sometimes influenced by genders as women shop more as compared to the men. Additionally, advertisements, especially ones featuring celebrities, are also an essential attribute that many times propels audiences into a buying spree. Adding to this, businesses keep releasing new versions of equipment such as mobiles, creating an inclination to use and throw and one repeatedly shops them, despite not having enough money to buy.

Overall, I fail to concur with this notion partially that shopping depends on the age alone, but also directly, or indirectly pivots on the amount of money, time and need to buy something.

Some people feel that equality between the genders has already been achieved while others feel there is considerable progress to be made. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Why do some feel that gender equality has been attained?

  • Women are touching new heights in every profession even in the challenging ones such as military and other hazardous work

  • They are leading from the front in many fields, in businesses, politics and some have also ruled the countries

  • They are switching roles with men with the former becoming a earning hand and the latter looking after household chores

Why do some feel that gender equality is still a distant dream?

  • Barring a few societies, many communities, especially the orthodox ones, are still to transform their thinking process and allow women some freedom: like letting them out of the homes alone, affording them education and privileges at par with males.

  • The conventional perception of women being responsible for child rearing is still to be abandoned

  • * Even though women are getting jobs in many organizations, they still face a gender bias when it comes to deciding about leading positions: they are rarely afforded top management positions

A school of thought believes that concurrent society has attained gender equality, but some commentators assert it is a long way to go in this direction. The following paragraphs shall delve deeper into both the arguments and draw a plausible conclusion.

Those supporting the notion of lack of discrimination on the basis of gender profound that females do not play a second fiddle (subordinate/less important) role to their male counterparts anymore; they have been empowered by the regimes through various statutes that bestow upon them the right to vote, gain education, engage professionally in any domains per their choice and make their own decisions without interventions. Consequently, their participation in various walks of life: professional and social, has incremented tremendously, making them share rights and privileges at a similar level with their male counterparts.

Similarly, sex-based egalitarianism(equality) is clearly reflected in the conspicuous (visible) presence of women in leading positions, sometimes the top, such as Indira Nooyi heading Pepsi, Mary Bara leading General Motors, and many more, highlighting dramatic transformation in the approach of society towards its almost 50 percent population, wherein it is rendering more space to the women.

Nevertheless, the other section professes that this is just the beginning of a long uphill journey that targets age-old conservative attitudes, and attempts enlightening society about the evils of this social stigma(shame) that constraints females from stepping out of their homes, and their traditional roles, depriving them of even fundamental privilege: voicing their opinions. Their complete emancipation(freedom) cannot be attained until all are benefited and given equal rights.

In conclusion, even though the progress made in the direction of affording level playing field to both the sexes, more intense efforts need to be invested to ensure that discrimination against women is permanently erased from the human memory.

INTRO

The great public discourse of contemporary times is aligned with the issue of gender equality. While some profess that concurrent society has attained, some remain unconvinced and opine that it is still a long way to go in this direction. The following paragraphs shall examine both the perspectives and emanate plausible conclusion

Intro 2

The debate surrounding gender equality is the most heated in the concurrent society; on the one hand, an army of people is convinced that it has been achieved. On the other, a host of social theorists believe that it is still a long way to go.

Some people think that young people should be ambitious. Others believe that it is fine to not to have big aims in life. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

Some people think that young people should be ambitious. Others believe that it is fine to not to have big aims in life. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

Why some think having goals is essential for youngsters

  • In personal, social and professional paradigm, this provides a purpose to life

  • Teaches about devotion to a goal

  • It keeps one motivated

  • One learns to find ways to attain those,

    • bringing them knowledge,

    • experience and broadening their perspective by facing thick and thin,

    •  and of course making them creative

  • Brings financial, social and personal affluence

Why some think about not having goals

  • It can make one self-centered

  • Chasing objectives exposes one to hardships; facing stress or overwork,

  • Go into a disconnect from those around: staying away from nears and dears, abandon social relations

  • If one fails to accomplish their goals, one feels dejected and lost

  • Expose one to physical and mental ailments

Intro 1

When it comes to defining objectives for the future, many feel that this should be a mandatory practice for young individuals. However, the other lobby exhibits its disinclination towards the former suggestion. The following paragraphs shall delve deeper into this matter and share a justified conclusion.

Intro 2

Some people suggest that it is essential for the young generation to define what they want to attain in their life, whereas the other lobby is disinclined/disinterested in subscribing to this practice. This essay intends to delve deeper into this debate and emanate a justified conclusion.

Intro 3

While it is true that the young generation should establish some objectives to give a purpose to their life, some are averse to this practice, for they fear this might deprive them of enjoyable moments.

To start with, determining  (discerning) aims at a young age affords a clear vision for future in all walks of life: personal, familial, social and professional, and act as roadmaps that one uses to tread to fulfill aspirations and expectations of diverse realms/spheres, and experience satisfaction. To exemplify, Dr. Nikita Dudeja, a famous human behavior specialist, professes that the youth with an eye on the future are more organized and content since they get to see things happening as per their expectations, and enjoy the exploits of their planned efforts. Such  individuals are known to lead a happier life than their directionless counterparts.

Similarly, this propensity can make one vulnerable to new skills, inventiveness and a hard working approach. To corroborate, Professor Uroosa Khan, University of Technology, Toronto professes that, the goals persuade the energetic young individuals to find ways to surmount barriers obscuring their targets, garner proficiency, and discover radical solutions to reap their desired outcomes.

Nevertheless, there is some skepticism about this habit; some fear that this might predispose them to hardships, and mental and physical afflictions, tying them to their obsession of gaining access to things they dearly crave for, and making them work recklessly, thereby detaching them from their families, social circles and surroundings, robbing them of the opportunities to enjoy their life, and making things miserable for them.

In hindsight, even though the reservations against harboring ambitions might hold some substance, a life without aspirations, and expectations, is bound to be without direction and structure, and make things chaotic in the long run.
