Film stars and celebrities often share their views on public matters that have little to do with their profession. Is this a positive or negative development?
Yes favorable evolution, why do you think so
They represent a diverse set of occupation and segment and they generally mirror the feelings of their fraternity
They have an overwhelming influence over the public and can inspire people to do acts of nobility.
No,
Most of the people are ill-informed about about the subject they express views about: this has got a potential of creating wrong notions among the masses: recently vaccination hesitancy was fuelled by stars from Hollywood
Sometimes these people use their celebrity pull and capitalize on that trait and express views that are biased
Contemporary times are witnessing a strange phenomenon where the noted public figures are observed voicing their opinions about issues concerning society even though they are not being even remotely connected to their occupations. This has ensued/started/fueled/led to/evoked/galvanized a profound debate whether this is a favorable or an unfavourable evolution.
A lobby of devoted followers of these widely acknowledged public icons is all praises for such actions. It is suggested that when these personalities manifest their opinions about certain critical challenges facing society such as rendering relief and assistance to those marooned/affected by natural disasters, or those surviving under extreme situations of impoverishment/destitution, hordes/scores of people join hands to support such noble causes, helping promote such messages rapidly across the length and breadth of the society.
However, there is a strong critical view about this phenomenon which considers it to be counterproductive. Barring a few instances, utterings of such accomplished individuals tend to either create/form misplaced notions about issues of critical nature, or cause embarrassment to self and others. A majority of these widely acknowledged/acclaimed individuals are ill-informed about the subjects they are seen blurting out judgements. This seemingly harmless practice can have severe consequences that can cause social discord and also jeopardise public safety. To corroborate, a survey carried out to gauge the reasons that led to vaccination hesitancy in the times of covid revealed that it was mindless expression of views by Hollywood stars that caused a scare in the public and most got scared of the promoted side-effects post vaccination, and evaded anti-covid vaccines.
Overall, despite the apologists painting a brighter picture of this evolution, I feel that the pitfalls of this propensity are far more profound than the positives; therefore, it is hard to consider this as a favorable development.
