Innovation is often driven by the pursuit of profit and economic growth.

  • Creation of wealth is an incentive for discovering new ways and methods

  • This is the only way for registering overall development of society

  • Creates employment for skilled labor

  • Churns out more and more business

However, some argue that it should prioritize addressing social and environmental issues.

  • The need of the hour is to preserve the ecological balance to ensure a safe future for mankind

  • Finding ways to alleviate pollution

  • Reduce reliance on artificially synthesized material

  • Mitigating poverty, social inequality, illiteracy

Some feel that  the purpose of discovering new ways is driven by wealth creation and economic progress, others think that the objective of such endeavors/ undertakings/ activities should be to mitigate economic and social issues.

There is a traditional belief that the goal of discovering new ways and  methods is wealth creation and registering economic progress, while the modern perception proposes that such activities should aim at mitigating economic and social issues.

INTRO1

A general view that has endured over the eons(ages,Centuries) about inventions is that these undertakings aim at creation of wealth and registering economic progress, but the modern opinion challenges the former perception and proposes prioritizing environmental and social upheaval. The following paragraphs shall examine both the perceptions and emanate a plausible inclination.

INTRO2

There is a traditional belief that the goal of discovering ground-breaking concepts is wealth creation and registering economic progress, while the modern perception proposes that such activities should aim at mitigating economic and social issues.

Some profess that it is the desire to augment monetary returns that has perennially (consistent/Constant) inspired researchers and businesses to foray into new directions; this can help them to gain lead over the competition and capture the lion's  share of the market. If this had not been the case, equipment like smartphones, LCDs, and colour printers, to name a few, would never have evolved, and consumers would still be forced to use the primitive fixed lines phones invented by Graham Bell, black and white TVs, and carbon papers.

Similarly, novel technologies are deemed as the most potential mechanism of generating economic activity, in the form of employment for millions across section of skills in diverse sectors: R&D, engineering, manufacturing, retail, servicing, and so on; business in the multitude of billions for disparate commercial organizations in related and unrelated trades; and colossal revenues huge for governments that are in turn deployed in various critical economic venues.

However, a large section of environmentalists and social theorists suggest that contriving radical concepts should target mitigation of challenges facing society and ecology: poverty, illiteracy, crime and social inequality, and pollution and conservation of natural resources respectively, as new discoveries will help perpetuate (continue)  livable and harmonious conditions for people and ensure a hospitable planet for continuation of life and survival of all living beings.

Overall, after assessing both sides of the coin, it can be said with certainty that as per the current circumstances, ingenuity should target both  the objectives: resources to motivate inventiveness, and improvements of surroundings to ensure continuity of life.
