Many people believe in the idea of school children wearing a school uniform, but should Teachers as well be required to conform to a dress code?

Yes?

  1. Teachers following a preset dress  code will be able to set precedents for students to follow who will in turn stop complaining about uniforms

  2. This could help foster equality among the teaching staff, regardless of the subjects   they are imparting and also the socioeconomic background they hail from

  3. This will help also bring a discipline among the teaching staff and they instead of competing for better looks will be focused on performance

  4. This will also not distract students as many times dressing sense of teachers becomes a topic of gossip for them

NO

  1. Teaching is a creative profession and mandating a uniform for the teaching staff can curtail/impede/cull/ kill their creativeness

  2. They surely must look different and distinct from the others working in the school, it is their privilege

Should the faculty be mandated to follow an official dress code, or not, is an intriguing question. This matter, in my view, needs to be critically analyzed.

The teaching staff wearing a predefined official ensemble would send a positive message across to the learners and persuade them to follow the precedents of their tutors and stop complaining about the clothes worn in the school. It has been often observed that pupils harbor  a reluctant attitude when it comes to complying with strict dress code. However, when they find those teaching them also sporting the mandatory attire, they will be left with little to complain about the school dress.

Similarly,  this arrangement could help fetch another benefit in the form of augmenting the focus  of students towards their studies as they will not pay attention to gossip surrounding  the dressing sense of teaching professionals, strengthening respect for the latter in turn. Moreover, this would also afford an environment of equality among colleagues in the teaching department as everyone will don a uniform look, regardless of their socioeconomic background, encouraging discipline and cohesiveness as a consequence.

Nevertheless, despite carrying certain benefits, there are few takers for this policy. Undeniably, those engaged in imparting knowledge are deemed to be highly respectable and considered to be deserving candidates for special privileges such as being rendered the liberty to dress up in the manner they want, so that they look different from the rest of the crowd. Additionally, forcing them to follow this rule will cull their creativity and turn the work environment monotonous for them.

Overall, I strongly feel that even though the arguments in favor of this arrangement seem credible, they fall short of providing a true rationale for confining teachers to stick to an official dressing etiquette.

Intro I

Of late, a suggestion has been surfacing that the faculty must also be obligated to don clothing defined as official, just like the learners. This notion has fetched mixed responses.
