Some people believe that in the future, most cities will become unlivable due to pollution and overcrowding. Others think technological innovation will solve these problems. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.

A general perception is emerging among the environmentally conscious that urban locales will turn uninhabitable; they are bursting to  their seams, and are plagued by pollution, but others exude optimism about the-state-of-the-art technology helping surmount these issues, turning this matter into a debatable issue.

To start with, many feel that laden with carbon dioxide exhaust fumes from vehicles are augmenting, due to  the burning of colossal amounts of fossil fuels; consequently, the air is becoming unbreathable, precipitating respiratory ailments: asthma, lung infections and so on, and the circumstances are  likely to  exacerbate in next few years. Moreover, an ever-growing population is demanding space for accommodation, engendering a dearth of land for housing, and as things are progressing, the competition for living space is going to become steeper, making it hard  for future urbanites to afford reasonable dwelling.

Having said that, some see  light at the  end of the tunnel, and propose that umpteen scientific and research endeavors are being undertaken to ease the pressure on cities and improve living conditions. In Japan, automobile companies are foraying into new technological realms and working on air-propelled engines, which will be cheap; and operate on renewable, and non-polluting natural material.

Similarly, vertically-oriented buildings: skyscrapers, for residence are fast becoming a new normal in major metropolises, superseding the conventional space-intensive horizontal arrangements,  promising rendering homes to remarkably larger demography than today, without forcing policy makers and urban authorities to resort to unsustainable practice of deforestation, and helping restore greenery and mitigate pollution.

To conclude, I believe that paranoia being promulgated by pessimism should be brushed aside;  the upcoming years seem to be holding brighter prospects, by the virtue of being fueled by technological advancements, and it can be said urban surroundings will be a better place to live in.
