Nowadays most information is available online, whereas in the past knowledge used to be stored in books and on paper. Do you think the advantages of this situation outweigh its disadvantages?

In this modern era, there is a greater reliance  on virtual means to gather and retain information, while in the past, printed materials used to serve this purpose. This essay shall discuss merits and demerits of this shift and assess whether the former outstrips the latter.

It is evident that the information available online is  easily accessible and one can retrieve it in any part of the world with reliable resources: mobile, laptops and so forth. To corroborate, if one likes a Shakespeare novel, they do not need to carry printed material anymore; they can view and read the needed content on their phones while journeying  to work, and so forth, without needing to carry a burden along. Moreover, those traveling can forgo paper maps; they have a modern version of GPS-driven maps installed in their phones which can help them during their journey.

However, it is also true that the information stored in printed form is the most reliable source, and hard to replace; data available on websites can be hacked and manipulated. Similarly, the virtual medium heavily relies on electricity, network and tech literacy, and if one does not have these at their disposal, they cannot store, recover and peruse material. For instance, one could fetch details from online resources only when their devices have enough power to function, besides having network availability, otherwise it is impossible to get information, whereas this is not the case with books. Nevertheless, these complications can be surmounted through prudent steps.

In hindsight, there is little iota of doubt that the technology has helped eliminate human drudgery by allowing one to save, retain and retrieve data conveniently, and despite posing some limitations, this state-of-the-art facility can prove to be sustainable. Thus, its advantages overweigh its disadvantages.
