It is often said that to become a successful businessman a tertiary education is not at all necessary. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give your opinion and relevant examples.
Several commentators profess that to excel in commercial endeavors one does not need to be professionally qualified, while others dissent with it. I will analyse this matter in upcoming paragraphs and draw a plausible conclusion.
Professional education provides a strong foundation in business programmes such as marketing, risk analysis and finance management, among others. These basics provide all the knowledge to excel in business. Also, these educational institutions provide practical training and workshops in companies, where students consolidate their classroom knowledge, and learn to implement their knowledge in a real time environment. Moreover, networking opportunities are the greatest possibility where trainees can explore meeting alumni, investors, and successful entrepreneurs.
Nevertheless, there are businessmen who do not possess any professional degrees, or even some are college or school dropouts. They run their business empire on their experiences, and on their innate qualities. Ratan Tata, Dhirubhai Ambani, Mark Zuckerberg, to name a few, are a few specimens that support the notion that talent, inborn qualities, skills and creativity do not require any formal education. They just need a place and opportunity to showcase their abilities.
Moreover, triumphant commercial endeavors needs problem solving skills, quick and right decision-making skills, something not taught in academic institutions. A survey conducted in California University revealed that business programmes only teach the basic principles which help individuals to land a good job to lead in a business, but not the traits to initiate a new business at the ground level, or to make it successful.
To cap it, I do agree with the statement as success in business only depends on the experience, qualities, practical abilities. However, there is nothing bad in pursuing formal degrees as one can get to know about the business fundamentals underlying the globalized modern business paradigm.
