The age of Information Technology has taken a lot of people by surprise
Ielts Essay - ITtechnology

The way the IT is spreading its wings across, many have started fearing outcomes of this rapid proliferation; many fear that this may lead to creation and widening of fault lines between groups of those who are fast adapting to this innovation, and those who are critical though there are some who find this idea to be ridiculous

The fears of the wedge growing between the ones who know and those who do not have anything to do with information technology seems to be quite real. This may, as feared, lead to friction among workers at work places where each group may find itself guarding its position jealously – considering their way of working to be more useful, in order to sustain its superiority over their rivals by impeding work of each other.

However, there is surely a lobby that harbors a more realistic view on this issue and rules out any kind of social discord among the people. Today, when many are adopting use of information technology in every sphere of their personal lives, others, nears and dears, are also  getting influenced since having ability to use this innovation is considered to be a mark of sophisticated lifestyle and intelligence. This is inspiring other too to pick up skills of using IT based facilities.

Moreover, the chances of social conflicts due to being and not being IT-literate are remote. Even in work places, the ones who resent use of this new technology are due to retire in near future, and the companies now are employing only those who posses IT skills. It has, thus become imperative for all aspirants to become tech savvy.

Hence, I completely disagree with the notion of social discord occurring due having and not having knowhow of using information technology.

Some universities now offer their courses on the Internet so that people can study online
Ielts Essay - Online University Course
Ever since certain varsities started offering courses online, they have been in the eye of storm: many are quite enthusiastic about this, they consider it to be quite favorable, while there are others who see an adverse impact of this.

Rendering online courses to knowledge seekers is undoubtedly laden with numerous positives: more and more students can now take up courses offered at universities – there is no restriction on number of seats offered in any typical course unlike in the past when many had to forego the idea of seeking admissions in universities which could only offer limited places in study programs due to space and resource constraint.

Furthermore, an increasing number of learners formerly dissuaded from the idea of joining higher education, due to distances and costs involved, can now study in a varsity. Pursuing academics is not difficult now, as students can remain in their home towns, where they enjoy emotional and moral support of their friends and families, and study from their comfort zones.  Moreover, pursuing online academic courses also help make things affordable; pursuing a study on internet sans costs involved on travelling, accommodation and food in an alien environment.

However, a cynical view suggests that everything is not rosy with the online courses: it is leading to deterioration in the quality of skills being generated. Students find it hard to bridge the gaps in their knowledge since they do not enjoy a real time interaction with their tutors; thus preventing them from seeking clarifications on their weak areas. These gaps tend to widen with every passing day; thus affecting capabilities of learners.

In a nutshell, I consider university internet courses to be an unfavorable trend that will eventually have an amplified effect on working abilities of future generations.

Nowadays the most important task is the environmental protection of our planet for future generations
Ielts Essay - Saving Environment For Future
Environment has become a major cause of worry for the politicians and environmentalists alike, as some say conserving it for the future generations is of critical importance. There are others who are quite cynical about this concern, and feel that this is simply a misleading claim and consider it to be an absurd idea.

Saving surroundings from further deterioration, and keeping them clean, and passing them to the next generation is the responsibility of the current generation. This narrative is based on the belief that the people living in the contemporary times have borrowed  the resources from their children; and hence it is necessary to take care of what they have loaned from the inhabitants who would use it in the time to come – perhaps a century later from now.

Furthermore, preserving nature for those who would populate this planet in times to come, is surely a task to be handled now. The way the environment, in all its spheres, is being destroyed, cleaning and bringing it back to a state  which could be termed as fairly favorable for living conditions, is surely going to be an uphill task later since it is feared that things might become insurmountable, and salvation may be a far cry.

However, there is a lobby that sees selfish motives behind this – the most prominent view that surfaces is that the worries being expressed are overstated, and  just a pretext to siphon off public money. Every generation, as per them, has had its set of challenges, and it is only them who have found out the way to negotiate those difficulties.

In a nutshell, I am of the view that ensuring a favorable environment for the upcoming generation is of critical importance at present.

society should be blamed for any anti-social activities
Ielts Essay - Society and blame for anti-social activities
Increasing lawlessness has intrigued social theorists and criminologists; and they seem to be scrambling for finding causes for such a trend; many even blame the social set-up for such an upward trend in crime though there are some  contrasting views on this issue.

A school of thought feel that the current state of turmoil the human society is experiencing is rooted in the consumerism. Every individual craves for almost every comfort and luxury, but many can hardly afford everything due to insufficiency of resources. This prompts criminal behavior: people try to attain their objects of desire through unethical means which is leading spurt in illegal activities.

It is firmly believed by many, and in fact it has also been proven by many experts that society is to blame for an increase in such a deviant behavior. The class struggle and the attitudes of various social groups towards each other are the primary causes for a rise in instances of criminality. Aggressive responses to action of and constant apathy towards each other, the social groups, is often a reason for sulking emotions and sentiments which incite people to seek revenge; thus resulting in unlawful behavior.

However, another lobby of social theorists hold politicians and elite class responsible for the current chaos in the society. These people, in order to perpetuate their influence over the commoners, patronize and protect anti-social elements. The community and people are in such a case are on the receiving end who have to bear the brunt of the malpractices encouraged by such highly placed class of the rulers and the rich.

In a nutshell, I personally feel that although social-order is surely responsible for the current rise in illegal activities, there are other factors too that are increasing instances of illegal activities.

Some people think that hobbies should be linked with technology, while others believe that it is not necessary for hobbies to be involved with technology. Discuss, what is your opinion? Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your experience.

Ielts Essay - Hobbies and Technology
With technology influencing almost every walk of life, some have started suggested extending the involvement of this in even the past-time activities though there are some who hold contrasting views. Even I support the latter opinion: some past-times need not be dependent on technology.

The narrative of involvement modern techniques in free time activities rests on a commonly held belief: use of modern innovation of practicing one's past-times can help save time, money and efforts. It has become extremely easy to make resources of past-times available at one's disposal: one does not need to travel to distant locations for collecting certain materials, as in case of amateur collectors of various items; and one does not also need to wait for the things to be made available at a certain place, like ones going shopping as a part of leisure time.

Moreover, today, recent forays into the realm of recreation and free time activities have come in as a respite for most of those who can seldom spare time for anything except their work: now such enthusiasts, carrying some kind of hobby, need not deprive themselves of this pleasure since they can practice their past-times in parts as per their convenience.

Nevertheless, those deriding the intrusion of modern means into the pastimes: they feel that this new development is dampening the exploratory skills of humans, a natural instinct. Everything becomes so tad easy and predictable, when people use modern methods, that excitement tends to fade away. For instance, use of modern rock climbing techniques and tools has killed the very spirit of adventure what  this activity was known for.

Hence, influence of modern means and tools in the sphere of pastimes is undesirable, as it would mean adding just another routine to mundane.  i feel that this realm can only remain an exciting engagement if it sans technological intervention.

Currently there is a trend towards the use of alternative forms of medicine
Ielts Essay - Modern Medicine and Alternative medicine
Health has always been a cause of worry, it has forced experts in field of medicine to find ways to treat illness. This has although helped discover diverse systems of treatment: mainstream and alternative,  it has also raised a bizarre debate, as some consider alternative medicine as worthless and, in fact, hazardous. However, others support non-mainstream interventions.

Choosing interventions that are not a part of a proven modern medicine is considered to be extremely harmful and laden with several risks since such systems, as some experts propose, do not have any documentary proof of how the practitioners diagnose and detect ailments; how they devise their strategies of treatment and prescribing medicines. This, in an age of well-documented experiments of causes and effects of ailments and medicines, makes the whole system quite precarious, and bereft of any concrete evidence.

Moreover, many professionals openly deride use of other medicines: ingredients and methods utilized in alternative medicines and therapies are often questionable of grounds of safety - use of poison, heavy metal, untreated needles and pressure seldom help in recovery, or bringing around any kind of relief, but instead stretch the tenure of illness, often severely impeding recovery of patients.

However, there are others who are outrightly positive about the outcomes of  traditional medicine interventions: the alternative methods of medicine target the very root cause of a disease, and strive to eradicate  the disorder or ailment completely instead of giving a temporary relief; these concepts use natural ingredients as these therapies regard a human body as a part of nature rather than a machine, which eliminates any chances of unpleasant side-effects.

Henceforth, I personally feel despite portrayal of alternative medicine as being evil, non-mainstream medicine is effective and can instead prove to be complimentary to the modern medicine.

Too much education is dangerous. If people receive more education than they need to function in their job,
Ielts Essay - Over-education
Educating oneself appropriately to raise chances of grabbing good employment has been a primary objective of every individual today, but some people profess, in this pursuit, some tend to get more than what may be needed to fulfill professional obligations that can fuel discontentment though others consider this idea to be quite bizarre.

Pursuing and completing academic qualifications that exceed requirements of employment in a given domain does sometimes instill discontentment. Individuals, after years of studying, tend to become too ambitious and unrealistic; hence failing to derive fulfillment and end up feeling disenchanted, and in fact disgruntled. Such people will not settle for anything lesser than a  job that offers them a smart remuneration, as well as a post of consequence; and any work they do, that is not strategically critical to an establishment, appears to be an impediment in their progress.

Moreover, workers with knowledge that outstrips demands of work also find it hard to cope with their co-workers whom they consider to be 'Lesser Mortals' and  virtually a no-match. In such cases, it has been observed that overeducated individuals are always out of sync of aspirations and expectations of rest of workforce; and tend to stay aloof and feel alienated; and thus unhappy.

However, there are others who outrightly ridicule this pessimist view: education can never be in excess, and it rather, if an individual grabs more of it, helps broaden mindsets and equip people with abilities to innovate, and come out with radical solutions to every problem. Such workers derive pleasure by outperforming their colleagues in performance that makes them feel proud of their abilities.

In a nutshell, I feel, the notion of excessive education leading to discontentment at work has no firm grounding and baseless

Some people think that new houses should be built in the same style as older houses in the local area
Ielts Essay - Old Houses of New Designs
Urban planning is surely a difficult job, as it must take care of how the construction of dwelling units, in a locality, is undertaken. Right now, these professionals have a task on hand: whether to allow people to build their houses as per individual wish, or to follow pre-established by-laws.

Permitting  people to construct residences as per their own discretion is justifiable: modern architectural conventions focus on saving space and energy. With fast changing times, requirements of households have undergone dramatic transformations: more and more people, per family, need to be accommodated  within a given space which is almost impossible to achieve with obsolete design parameters. Allowing individual households to carry out construction as per their discrete needs will help save time, efforts and money otherwise expended on finding alternative solutions, like looking for additional residential units.

Moreover, design of dwelling units is an individual prerogative since people tend to spend, most of the times, a lot of their hard-earned money, sometimes even savings of their whole life, on building their dream houses: they deserve an opportunity to fulfill their dreams and expectations, and authorities have no right to enforce upon will on free citizens.

However, there are others asserting that no deviation should be allowed from a prescribed modular design. Allowing heterogeneous designs would fuel dissent in large numbers; thus allowing all sorts of weird designs and facades to come up and spoil the outlook of surroundings and make neighborhoods look ugly. Moreover, design bye-laws suggested by urban bodies conform to prerequisites necessary for ensuring a good quality of life for citizens of an area.

In a nutshell, I personally vouch for a modular designs as it will help promote a homogenous look that will help giving a neighborhood a pleasant look even though some freedom should be afforded, as far as, interiors is concerned.

Some people believe that it is better to live and work in a vertical city with multiple tall buildings
Ielts Essay - Vertical or Horizontal Cities?
As urban town planners struggle to discover ways to resolve issues facing modern cities - in terms of accommodating population and sustenance of environment, the society stands divided in two partisan groups: ones supporting life in cities with horizontal development, and others vouching for urban areas that have grown vertically.

Most urbanites prefer residence and employment in metros that have a plenty of high-rise buildings. Such locations are quite compact and self-sufficient in almost all aspects: they offer much shorter commuting times between homes, offices and places of leisure, that are often located within a close vicinity of each other. This leaves people with ample time to allocate to each part of their lives, professional and personal. Moreover, such settings also offer a sense of security, as due to being compact, locals are familiar with areas and each other.

Similarly, vertical cities are known to be environmentally friendly. More and more populace - bitten by environment protection bug, is choosing such areas over others; locations having lesser multi-storey buildings predispose deforestation. Furthermore, most of high-rises are also designed with an aim of conserving and, in fact, generating own energy, by use of non-conventional methods and fuels, like solar power, etc.

However, conservative lobby still favors horizontal urban settings: they feel, horizontal arrangement offers a good quality of life: the pressure of population is far lesser which aids in better utility services; having green front and back yards offers superior comfort due to availability of abundant sunlight and fresh air; surroundings and skyline are a very pleasing sight, unlike the street canyons in the concrete jungles of high-rises.

In a nutshell, both the vertically and horizontally developed urban metropolis have their own benefits and shortcomings; hence judging which is a better place to live is impossible.

Young drivers are careless and overconfident, and too many are killed in accidents. To eliminate this problem, we could teach children the skills of safe driving while they are at school. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Dramatically rising instances of fatalities involving  young drivers is fueling relentless efforts for a reliable solution to address the growing menace. A proposal has recently surfaced, among numerous quarters, that young people should be imparted skills of safe driving at school though this view is not bereft of derision.

Formal tuition is being seen as a right place to train young minds about sensible driving; institutions imparting education shoulder the responsibility of nurturing all-round personality of young people, and today when safe driving, that requires  self discipline and control, is being increasingly regarded as an essential trait of a responsible and rational citizen, schools should don the mantle of training youth to be safe drivers.

Moreover, schools can provide conducive environment of learning: they have the resources and all the time to ensure an effective imparting of the content, using various tools and strategies equip students with the necessary knowhow. On the top of that, it is a general belief that when kids learn something among their peers, and that is imparted as a formal education under the guidance of aptly trained teachers, they tend to retain information for a long time.

However, these suggestions are not free of drawbacks, as critics point out. Schooling is a phase that primarily focuses on academic competence, that will help as kids professionals: there is no place, and in fact time, for a skill, like safe driving in an already overloaded schedule. If schools were to take up this task, it would be prove to be a distraction from primary objective, and futile - this knowledge cannot be applied until the legal driving age.

Overall, I feel that tutoring young minds about how to drive safely at school is an idea that is bereft of substance, and will largely remain ineffective, and cause distraction instead. Thus I disagree with this completely.

Life in the 21st century is better compared to the previous century. To what extant do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own experience in not less than 250 words.

Life in the 21st century is better compared to the previous century
Ielts Essay - 21st Century or previous century?
Even since humans settled down, they have made tremendous progress, often regarded as great achievement as per contemporary expectations. But, every next generation has tried to establish their superiority over predecessors. Continuing that tradition, many propose that current century is better off than the preceding century: though this is worth delving deep into.

If the current state of affairs is closely assessed, humans have taken big strides in ensuring a better quality of life: there have been prolific improvements in living conditions since there is enough food at last, and humans are rarely dying of hunger; life expectancy has improved substantially owing to availability of clean drinking water, and a phenomenal improvements in the field of medicine -  lesser and lesser people are being afflicted by terminal diseases and ailments.

Similarly, innovations in technology, especially introduction of  internet and better means of communication and travelling, have paved way to make globe a smaller place to live, and people can be seen trotting the globe for disparate purposes such as tourism, employment and education, and interacting with others across the planet without any inhibitions. This may well help foster better relationships among people of various parts of the planet.

However, current era has also generated its own set of problems; the most prominent are rising pollution, in all spheres of environment, and threat of nuclear war, which, if not dealt with appropriately,  would lead to a holocaust that may threaten not only the very human race but also bring the whole life on the planet to the brink of extinction.

Henceforth, I feel, despite many advancements in the current era, it is not correct to compare two periods, as every generation has done something to bring the human race to its present condition.

Physical education and sport should be compulsory for all students in all schools
Ielts Essay - Physical Education And Sports
An ever increasing concern over health of kids has prompted many to mull possibilities of making sports and physical education mandatory for each student in every school though this has prompted some to ridicule such a suggestion too.

Making physical education obligatory at formal tuition seems to be a practical idea since formal tuition are places where pupils spend most time of their day: the kids would follow the routine as a religion. A PE class will help rendering daily dose of physical activity, and help kids not only get a much required escape from the monotonous academic routine, but also help ensure fending off several ailments and maladies, like obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes that are afflicting children quite early on these days.

Additionally, intergarting sports with formal curriculum can help bring in multiple benefits: upteen studies have proven that involvement in some of team, or individual sports can prevent yongsters from engaging in drug and alcohol abuse; learn to lead a healthy life; promoting a sense of belonging towards  the team, and later towards the society that eventually help foster social skills required for a successful life as an adult.

However, a lobby publically derides making sports and PE binding for all students and schools by pointing at failings of such a egime: these extra-curricular activities would act as an unwarranted and a worthless distraction that may rob kids of their valuable time; distract them away from their studies, and eventually affect academic outcomes. As they propose, schools are primarily meant for instilling academic excellence, and not physical prowess.

In a nutshell, I personally feel, including gym class and sports in school study programs is surely a very constructive move: it will help bolster physical and mental wellness, and should be applied exhaustively.

Some people believe we need to pay higher taxes
Ielts Essay - Should we pay more Taxes?

Growing concerns regarding satisfying needs of populace has encouraged many to suggest that governments should charge more  taxes from citizens, whereas, there are others who are quite skeptical of this. But, what the state should do is a matter worth delving deep into.

Levying higher taxes seems to be quite justified. Inflation  is riding out of control that is making everything dearer, thus severely  hampering ability of authorities to lay even the basic goods and services at the disposal of inhabitants. Raising, or creating new provisions will help generating revenues to ensure appropriate funding for various welfare schemes for public support. It is firmly believed whatever taxpayers shell out accrues back to them in form of benefits.

Moreover, the proposal of raising collections by way of increasing levies is based on the fact that over the past few years, population, especially that of elderly who completely rely on government support,  has been rising exponentially which is clearly offsetting any attempts made in sustaining and improving the level of public support network. Everything costs money, and hence, as the governments are run on public funding, people must readily part with some more to compensate for the pressure created by an increased number of people.

Nevertheless, there are others who feel that such a step will be too harsh a treatment for already over-burdened tax-payers. It would make it hard for them to make adjustments in their budgets; and the authorities should instead focus on other innovative ways to raise money such as participating in commercial activities; running their own concerns that  foray into  profit making exercise.

Henceforth, I personally feel, exerting pressure on inhabitants by increasing burden of taxes will surely prove to be counter productive, and hence taxes should not be raised.
