Elderly people are nowadays being sent to old aged homes rather than being looked after by a family in homes. Do the advantages of old aged homes outweigh the disadvantages?
The biggest calamity of shifting family settings have been the elderly who are left to fend for themselves, and thus, end up in old age homes, but do these establishments shelter the lonely abandoned from misfortunes, or do these add to their woes, is a matter worthy of being profoundly pondered into.
Such community support services afford all possible facilities to the ones in their twilight
years: medical care and support, and help in performing every chores, to name a
few. They are equipped with systems and surroundings that present little hazard
to the older people: having elevators instead of stair to climb to higher
floors, or not having slippery floors that could cause injury, and also
appropriately designed toilets and showers that are suited to the needs
of ageing individuals, which a family can never imagine providing to their
older family members.
Nevertheless, quite contrary to the veneration which many render, such accomodation is no less than a torment for the ageing inhabitants. These are confinements that are seldom frequented by family members, leaving the senior citizens emotionally drained since they can rarely participate in the merry moments with their loves ones, for which they worked throughout their lives, but are condemned to lead a life of rejection that also in their golden years when they need emotional support of their loved ones the most. Moreover, these locations are not some places that afford merrymaking, but some dungeons that offer traumatic surroundings that are plagued by distressing sights of illness and death.
