Alcohol and Tobacco

Rising incidences of disease resulting out of use of alcohol and tobacco has prompted many health experts to consider both these substances as drugs, and propose banning these of legalizing all drugs though there are voices of dissent.

Using alcohol and tobacco products has been conventionally regarded as being highly injurious to health of not only the direct users but also those around. Where cigarette, a common tobacco article, smoking  can cause more harm to passive smokers than users, alcohol, if consumed in excess, can turn people violent  often resulting in unwarranted consequences. To add to this, the most vulnerable groups to these substances are young, who if become nicotine or alcohol dependent, they are likely to damage to their health due to abuse, which would surely jeopardize the health of future generation.

However,  there are voices in support tobacco and alcohol: these substances have been a part of leisure since ages, if consumed in moderation and in private, they are unlikely to cause any harm to self or public. Moreover, imposing a ban would only help popularize these products, and risk of people buying and consuming spurious stuff would rise significantly, as has been experienced in many countries that tried banning these substances.

As far as, declaring all drugs  is concerned, it is better that narcotics should always remain out of reach of general public. Most of the intoxicants are highly addictive – even a moderate consumption can turn users into addicts. Not only this , drug abuse can permanently damage physical and mental  health, making drug abusers invalid.

To sum up, I personally feel, to ensure better health and safety of majority of populace on planet, it would be wise enough to let drugs continue to be considered as illegal though alcohol and tobacco articles should also be restricted but discreetly.

Can Death Penalty Prevent Violent Crimes?

Ever rising incidence and intensity of criminal activities has pushed many to strongly vouch for continuation of severe punishment in form of death penalties though some feel that awarding death sentence is not required and would prove insufficient as far as curtailment of unlawful activities involving violence is concerned.

Extreme steps, like awarding death penalties to the perpetrators of crime of violence acts as a major deterrent; the offenders always fear execution if found and convicted. The fear of death is the biggest element that pushes one to dissuade themselves from participating in criminal endeavors which might result in physical harm to the victims. For instance, many empirical studies and analysis have revealed that introduction of death by execution statute in early twentieth century in some countries, and reinstatement in others across the globe, resulted in steady decline in the number of incidents involving violent acts. Now, the people feel safer are able to lead a peaceful life.

However, several deride this theory, as per them, the crimes of violence like homicides are in most cases committed due to the inherent animal instincts. For some, carrying out such acts is habit and a passion and no law of any severity can prevent criminals from involving themselves from such activities. Furthermore, brutal acts resulting in physical harm can often be a result of circumstances and not deliberate. This lobby is of  the view that reformation and rehabilitation could help those intending to commit such acts, introspect an think about the impact their endeavors  could have on others.

Overall, I feel that capital punishment is an absolute necessity to ensure a crime free society. All other proposals presented in favor of abandoning it should be overlooked, after all public safety is of paramount importance.

Do the benefits of Eco Tourism far outweigh its drawbacks? Discuss and give your views. - Ielts Essay

Eco tourism - Ielts Essay
Nowadays, Eco tourism is often being quoted as green tourism and it fast gaining prominence around the world. Many environmentalists and governments have started professing about the benefits of this branch of travelling, while there are several staunch critics who feel that Eco tourism is actually generating more problems than providing solutions.

Eco tourism is believed to be beneficial in many ways, as it does not exploit and disturb the sanctity of the location and the areas surrounding the sites being visited by the tourists. The green tourism also proves helpful for the locals living in that specific territory as it strives to involve locals living in and around the site of interest which ensures employment and self sufficiency for the local inhabitants. This in turn also prevents influx of outsiders in these areas thus helping in preserving the sanctity of the area.

Besides this, the eco tourism is also playing an important role in creating awareness about the importance of preserving environment. The areas being explored as part of nature tourist sites and spots are not developed on lines with the commercial tourism, i.e. they are left untouched and untamed. Educational travel based on natural attractions is also proving to be a promising medium of promoting social, economic, and environmental goals especially in developing nations.

However, nature tourism is also leading to destruction of forest and marine habitats and several wild species are being driven to the brink of extinction due to pressures created by of illegal hunting, logging, agriculture, and fishing. Furthermore, the poor nations who are maintaining these locations lack appropriate funding sources to manage and preserve them.

To conclude, I personally feel that although nature tourism has many demerits, its benefits cannot be overlooked and ignored.

Space Exploration IELTS Essay
As the race for exploring outer space gains momentum, a section of critics to this policy have started questioning the rationale behind allocating a huge financial outlay on this exercise. However, there are many supporters of the space programs being undertaken currently by governments across the world.

The Idea of going ahead with discovering the untouched domains beyond the atmosphere of the planet earth has always fascinated the human kind. This curiosity has gained more prominence as the scientists go ahead with trying to uncover the mysteries of the universe. As per them, probing into deeper space would help in unraveling many unknown secrets that have intrigued humanity over the centuries. This would in turn, not only allow us to know about the origins of humanity, but also open up new horizons of knowledge for the future generations.

Moreover, most of the latest innovations are a result of extensive solar system exploration. The biggest beneficiary of this activity has been the humanity itself, which, due to satellites in the space, is now having a better medium of communication and weather forecasting at its disposal. Besides this, many technologies and techniques have been developed or perfected with help of extensive experimenting in space, for instance semi conductor that was developed in weightlessness of space, i.e. out of our planet has assisted in improving the electronics and many other domains.

However, the detractors feel that money channelized into sending satellites or people out of planet could have been spent on better things like providing food, shelter, education and medical support to innumerable poor of the planet.

To sum up, in my point of view, whatever may be the case, the schemes aiming at exploring space has proven to be helpful and it should provided more impetus.

Students Enroll in Universities
With academic excellence gaining prominence, a strange trend is developing among the pupils as everyone is seeking enrollment in varsities. This has given rise to a race of sorts among the younger generation to secure higher grades in the secondary studies. Some feel, this is surely a thing to worry about, while others look at the positive side of it.

Better academic qualifications have always been the objectives of pupils seeking academic excellence. To achieve this, the pupils tend to opt for reputed varsities that are equipped with better faculties and facilities. This has given rise to a stiff competition among the people as the number of seat available in departments of universities are limited which in turn has raised the cut-off percentages in selection lists.

Such neck to neck race would surely cast an unholy shadow on the current education system as other venues of imparting courses may become irrelevant shortly. There could be another negative impact on the education system as courses being hosted by the colleges and other alternatives institutions may not be considered suitable and adaptable thereby rendering the academic pursuits of students of these establishment inappropriate. This could finally lead to a collapse of the whole setup.

However, some educationists and planners feel that this is a positive development as the recent drift of pupils towards university would not inspire them to gain more proficiency in their elementary pursuits, but also help in developing their attitudes to obtain deeper knowhow in any discipline they pursue. Moreover, the institutions clubbed under non university categories would also be encouraged to raise the standards of academics and facilities being offered currently.

To sum up, I personally feel that the inclination for universities would bring around positive results in the long run.
