Ielts Essay - Clothing and fashion

Apparel and connected trends have always impacted on communities ever since humans started establishing themselves in form of cities and towns. With this a parallel trend of raising controversy about the favorable and unfavorable effects of this phenomenon has also picked up momentum, matching paces with the developing fashion.

There are severe ramifications of this trend: it is generating wasteful expenditure and encourages extravagance. Most of the times, people rarely care for the money when it comes to buying garments that correspond to the modern styles, and aspirations: most will not mind paying double the actual price for a new clothesline that has  just been released as a part of a new collection, repenting later for imprudent spending.

Similarly, this industry is churning out humongous wastage of physical  resources as the clothes that have made and styled as per the latest trends will not last more than a specific tenure, and after these apparel and accessories are out of fashion, they will be deemed useless and they cannot be recycled like other materials. To corroborate, every year almost every clothing company reports creating a colossal deadstock that cannot be disposed with, causing them humongous losses.

Nevertheless, a school of thought deems the impact of phenomenon in apparel as extremely beneficial, and feels that, apart from reflecting fresh attitudes and bolstering creativity, vogues in clothing is associated with changing times, and it helps one realize the changing tastes and preferences. Mankind has survived in close clusters of big and small communities, and the style of diverse attire have reflected the sophistication and uniqueness of individual social groups.

In conclusion, I would say that even though the undercurrents of fashion business and clothes have umpteen detrimental aspects, these have also fuelled style and innovation throughout the ages.
