Some people think that climate change could have a negative effect on business. Others think that climate change could create more business opportunities. Discuss both views and your own opinions.

Some profess that a shift in climatic patterns is bound to prove detrimental for business, others believe that this could create more business opportunities. Both views are discussed in the following paragraphs.

Weather changes are largely harmful for business, as per several experts. Taking the example of extreme weather conditions like excessive rainfall, or drought can destroy the crops and cause a big loss to farmers. Similarly, heavy rainfalls can cause damage to roads, impeding transportation of goods from one place to another. Apart from that, this change in the form of global warming is also causing snow to melt at poles, resulting in higher sea levels, submerging several coastal cities, leading to displacement of people, factories and business, which are rarely able to re-establish themselves in new locations.

However, this occurrence is proving to be favorable for certain industries, especially where on one hand, those manufacturing aids and equipment to render comfort from unannounced weather changes: the sales of air conditioners in areas that are experiencing unusually extremely hot temperatures are witnessing a rise in sales of equipment like air conditioners, on the other,   those regions  witnessing longer and colder that usual winters are seeing a spurt in sales of heaters.

Moreover, this phenomenon is also persuading many to start new businesses as the demand for certain food, such as ice creams and hot desserts, is registering a steep rise. People, to cope with the prevailing weather, attempt to comfort themselves with the food that soothes their woes and get over the miseries of unbearable weather.

Overall, despite optimism being expressed by many about such a phenomenon  being rewarding for commercial activity, the long term impact will not leave any realm of business untouched, and all businesses - in any area - would be affected adversely.
