In many countries the proportion of older people is steadily increasing. Some think this is good, while others believe this is a problem for a country. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

The demographic trend of a plethora of nations suggest that they are heading towards greying society. There is nowadays, an intriguing debate brewing up since a lobby believes that this evolution/prevailing phenomenon is beneficial while others believe that it is posing a menace to the countries. This essay will discuss both the views in the following paragraphs.

Many are in favour of this phenomenon since the increasing section of older people is helping in amelioration of the human development index of the countries due to the improvement in the life expectancy of the citizens by virtue of which such nations are gaining visibility across the length and breadth of the globe.

However, the rising population of the elderly is affecting the economic growth of the nation since to sustain them, the state is required to channelize funds from the public budget to cater to their needs by rendering them pensions and a wide array of other services such as healthcare, security, and so on, thereby hampering the further imperative developments in the country owing to dearth of the financial resources.

Moreover, owing to the rise  in the elderly population, nations are experiencing the scarcity of the workforce, consequently, deferring/holding back a rich profusion of assigned projects. Similarly, this increase is proving to be a liability on the shoulders of the younger generation as they push themselves to slog hard professionally as well as pay colossal amounts of taxes in order to extend subsidised services to senior citizens  which affects their productivity as well as efficiency, thereby impeding the progress.

To reiterate, after assessing both the views, I strongly feel that the mushrooming growth in the population of the senior citizens is accompanied by a plethora of negative aspects since this evolution is posing numerous challenges for the country and imposing immense pressure on the youngsters.
