To be successful in education, it is more important to be a good student than to have good teachers. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The great public discourse of contemporary times is aligned with the elements that fuel success in education. Where some hold learners responsible for their academic achievements, others counter this by arguing that outstanding teachers  are vital for academic  feats.

A lobby propounds that pupils should be focussed towards studies: a trait that  drives them to explore and harness their abilities, on  their own, in this field. It is generally said that it is easy to take a horse to the pond but hard to force it to drink water. Likewise, if learners are reluctant to commit themselves to the task of their studies, there is little tutors can do to convince them. Moreover, those enlightened about pursuing education seriously can  easily grasp the concepts taught in the school swiftly, and excel in their pursuits. To corroborate,  A survey carried out by University of Toronto has revealed that over 90% of the elite students had performed brilliantly due to their own initiatives. Teachers, in this case, acted only as advisers rather than mentors.

Nevertheless, some go against the former view. Teachers, as per them, influence the academic innings of every pupil profoundly, starting from the first day in the school to the university. Proficient teachers are adroit at the art of assessing, determining, strategizing delivery plans of lessons, and guiding every student to help them attain their academic goals. Teaching professionals have a knack to derive brilliance even out of mediocre students by donning the role of mentors, and guiding them in a positive direction.

To recapitulate, I partially agree with the notion; I feel that to attain success in education, both the brilliant students and good educators are important. Where intelligence is needed in students, the proactive and pragmatic approach of tutors bolster every learner.

It is being noticed that students do not study as intensively in university as they used to do in schools. What are the causes of this change? What could be done to improve the situation?
