The age of Information Technology has taken a lot of people by surprise. While it has become a way of life for some, others know very little about it and may be unlikely to learn. Eventually we will have a polarized society and this will lead to serious social problems. To what extent do you agree with this statement?

It is a plausible conclusion to draw that fissures resulting from some being able to cope with information technology successfully, and others being unable to embrace it will take a turn for serious, resulting in social discord.

To embark upon the discussion, IT education begins at school, but not all institutions can afford to impart it, especially the public schools with skeletal facilities. The learners in such establishments are more focused on learning basic life skills in order to sustain a livelihood as adults. However, as reliance on IT increases substantially, such youth will find it implausible to secure  jobs since their technical knowledge would be extremely limited. Consequently, they would end up being a part of the unskilled labour, fueling jealousy for those who are computer literate, which may result in clash of professional objectives, precipitating into conflicts and hostilities.

Moreover, it is also feared that the things will not stop here. The gap in learning will also cause a great disparity in the amount of earnings, resulting in widening the divide between the rich, and the poor – where the privileged section will progress in an era that relies heavily on the Information Technology fueled work, whereas the poor will continue to be unable to afford opportunities made available by this technology.  Furthermore, this may have a cascading effect on the future generations of the less fortunate as they would have lesser chances to pave their own path to success; consequently, causing a permanent wedge in two classes.

Overall, I fully second the opinion that the possibility of social fault lines surfacing between those capable of adapting to the IT environment and those unable to, seems imminent which might have unwarranted outcomes.

Nowadays people live longer after they retire. How does this affect individuals and society? What can be done about this?

Nowadays people live longer after they retire. How does this affect individuals and society?

What can be done about this?

Nowadays people live longer after they retire

Better life expectancy has brought numerous benefits, it has also resulted in an unusual problem with people surviving long after retiring from work.    This phenomenon is adversely impacting not only the individuals but also the society. Thus, discovering practical solutions to this challenge has become imperative.

The elderly living longer after being relieved from jobs tend to suffer not only financially but also emotionally. Several senior citizens subsisting on their own find it hard to make their both ends meet due to the dearth of money. The pensions they receive are not enough to pay for their living. Even the ones living with their extended families often feel abandoned since they are considered to be a hindrance in freedom. These factors often leave them emotionally drained making them vulnerable to mental disorders.

Moreover, the ones having enough money to survive comfortably are exposed to age related disorders and ailments which necessitates frequent medical intervention and support, lowering the quality of life, and making it burdensome. The society also faces ramifications of such longevity: it must bear the obligations of extending appropriate health care besides the pensions, which is funded by taxpayers.

This issue needs quick redressal and practical solutions to render relief to ageing people, as well as others impacted by this trend. It will be quite reasonable to suggest either raising retirement age or engaging retired individuals in some kind of work that could support them financially and also help them evade the feeling of loneliness.

Overall,  a longer life that continues well in the autumn years is rather a boon than a bane, and any detrimental impact resulting out of this should be mitigated with the help of judicious planning. After all, everyone is going to get old and face a similar situation.

Some believe that schools should give prizes to children for their academic success

Should schools reward pupils for their academic feat? Or

1.   Acknowledging learners for their feats in academic realms will inspire them to invest themselves more dedicatedly, and find studies more interesting.

2.   This will act as an inducement for other learners and push them to compete for such rewards.

3.   This could also be of a great help for the learners hailing from economically weaker sections to continue with their studies

Should schools reward learners for achievements in other areas?

1.   Every accomplishment should be recognised; that way achievements in other fields like sports, arts and good conduct also become worthy of appreciation.

2.   These areas have a great contribution in defining and polishing the overall personality of growing individuals; thus, acknowledging success in these area will inspire young individuals to perform better in all areas

There are disparate views when it comes to prioritizing different areas - academic and non-academic - for which many feel that rewarding learners can help greatly, but should this arrangement only facilitate those excel in academics, or should be for others areas too.

Acknowledging achievements is an imperative practice in the contemporary educational arrangement. Many institutions follow the norm of rewarding those performing well in examinations, but many also suggest that these should be extended to those who excel in  various areas of co-curricular activities.

A school of thought favors acknowledging academic attainments, for they believe that such an arrangement can act as a catalyst in encouraging recipients to work harder and try to  touch pinnacle in their area of study. Ones receiving awards for their academic feats tend to find their studies even more interesting. Many studies carried out in schools across the world corroborate this notion that rewards act as major stimulants for every student who strive to achieve higher and higher to become beneficiaries of such awards.

Moreover, besides stimulating achievers, such an arrangement can also inspire other learners to attempt and become capable of achieving such accomplishments. In a way, as several educationalists suggest, the learning environment becomes competitive with everyone vying to outperform each other, reducing the  amount of efforts faculty and management have to invest in persuading pupils to study dedicatedly.

Nevertheless, there is another view that is inclined towards recognizing feats in extra and co curricular endeavors besides the conduct. Formal tuition, in its current manifestation, is vested with the responsibility of fostering the overall personality of learners, and thus, it makes it imperative to grant recognition to those attaining excellent outcomes in domains like sports, art and exemplary behavior, to name a few.

In hindsight, after assessing both the sides of the coin, I can safely assert that formal tuition, having been made responsible for the all-round development of young individuals, should appreciate all attainments: be it academic or non-academic.

Modern lifestyles mean that many parents have little time for their children. Many children do not get as much attention from their parents as children did in the past. This is having a negative impact on the children. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Modern lifestyles mean that many parents have little time for their children. Many children do not get as much attention from their parents as children did in the past. This is having a negative impact on the children. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Child rearing has always been an arduous task. With the changing times, the way of leading lives has transformed drastically; pushing people to abandon the conventional ways of fostering their wards and leaving young ones bereft of care and attention in the process. There is a common perception this has a detrimental effect on a majority of children.

Nowadays, over  engagement of mothers and fathers in their professional pursuits is causing them to neglect their little ones. This is creating a void in the relationship between them and their wards by mitigating the understanding between them, thereby weakening the ties. Such an evolution, as many fear, might cause alienation among them due to lack of emotional connection.

Moreover, this isolation deprives the growing minds of opportunities to embrace numerous skills and values. They do not get a chance to learn social, as well as moral values, and by virtue of which, some of them become introverts when they grow into adults, and due to the lack of confidence, they find it difficult to muster courage while approaching others.

Furthermore, parents fail to monitor the regular activities of their children which results in severe repercussions, leading to distortion in the behaviour as well as affecting the psyche of tender minds prominently since in the contemporary era, these unchecked youngsters are indulging extensively in the technology and consider it to be their mentor which plays a prominent role in shaping their lives.

To reiterate,  parents should consider child upbringing to be the utmost priority by rendering adequate time to their wards and monitor their conduct meticulously, otherwise neglecting them will leave a long lasting negative impact on the immature minds which would be irrevocable. Thus, I concur with the statement.

Some people think it is better to educate boys and girls in separate schools and some others feel they benefit more from attending mixed schools. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Some people think it is better to educate boys and girls in separate schools and some others feel they benefit more from attending mixed schools. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

There is a lobby that believes imparting knowledge to both genders in the same formal settings is constructive for their personalities; however, the critics consider this practice to be counter-productive though I concur with the former view.

Co-education plays a prominent role in shaping individual personalities. This arrangement renders equal opportunities to both genders by obliterating several gender disparities which would aid in removing bias and fostering respect for each other, as well as making them more adaptable to sharing responsibilities in professional realms later as adults. Moreover, this practice helps them to boost their confidence to muster courage while approaching opposite genders since some children turn into introverts and feel comfortable staying with the same gender throughout their endeavours.

However, some parents outrightly reject this notion. They believe by studying together in the same formal settings, their wards would get distracted from their academic pursuits which would adversely affect their outcomes, thereby putting their future aspirations at stake. Also, the conservative view rests on the challenges tutors might face while educating both the sexes under the same roof.

In hindsight, despite some negative aspects of pursuing formal tuition together, its positive aspects would be of great afford for both the genders and render them an opportunity to learn several moral values which will help them when they grow into adults.

Do the advantages of private means of transportation such as cars and motorbikes outweigh the disadvantages, of public transport (trains, buses and taxis)? Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own experience

Do the advantages of private means of transportation such as cars and motorbikes outweigh the disadvantages, of public transport (trains, buses and taxis)? Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own experience

An eternal public discourse  seems to be doing round among various quarters regarding the choice of transit, between owned and public. Both the partisan factions cite benefits and pitfalls of both,  but it is to be seen if the advantages of these  modes outshine failings of the other, or not.

When it comes to travelling, many prefer their own means over the public ones, citing several benefits of these. This  has fetched flak from supporters of mass transit who in turn highlight the advantages of these modes.

Whether the benefits of commuting by own means outshine the pitfalls of using public means, is an  intriguing question which has fetched mixed reactions. It is necessary to delve deeper into this issue to determine the facts.

The noise due to incessant honking of horns, as well as hustle-bustle, caused by the crowd in the public transport turn the journey of passengers into an extremely stressful and exhausting experience, thereby leading to severe headaches. Nevertheless, the personal means of the transit system renders an opportunity to people to enjoy lighter moments with their nears and dears without any disturbance simultaneously helping in making memories together.

Similarly, in case of urgencies people are required to wait for the public vehicles which leads to the wastage of time and makes it difficult for the travellers to reach the destination on time while round the clock availability of personal conveyance at their disposal is quite conducive in such situations. Moreover, in the contemporary era, a plethora of crimes has witnessed a spike, which has made travellers quite apprehensive, often pushing them to contemplate before commuting in public transport, particularly during off-peak hours; however, private vehicles render safety to individuals travelling at any point of time.

However, the mass transit system is quite economical, and the maintenance of such vehicles is not a matter of concern for the travellers, whereas private conveyance fails to offer these advantages to its owner. Furthermore, these vehicles aid in alleviating social disparities by eliminating the bias from the society by rendering similar services to all, irrespective of their social status.

To reiterate, the positive aspects of the personal transport system entirely eclipse the negative aspects of public means owing to the safety, convenience and several other benefits rendered by the former means of transit.

In some places stores are open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Do you think it is good for customers, shop staff and community?

Nowadays, in some areas, shops remain open round the clock to cater the needs of the inhabitants. There is a lobby that believes this advancement is advantageous for the buyers, the personnel and the society. This essay will justify the rationale behind their perception and explore whether this is favourable or unfavourable development.

Many have hailed this arrangement and this can be attributed to several causes. In the contemporary era, where people are busy in their professional and personal realms due to the gruelling schedules, this development renders them an opportunity to shop according to their convenience without pushing them to take out time from their hectic regimes for the auxiliary activity like shopping. Furthermore, the access extended especially by medical shops at the wee hours proves to be extensively conducive in case of emergencies, thereby serving the community in adverse situations.

Moreover, the facility of shops available round the clock is of great afford for the employees working/deployed at the stores since in addition to increased salaries, a rich profusion of perquisites are bestowed on them in the form of money as well as gifts due to the rotational shifts and job at wee hours.

However, the primary purpose of earning more which is to make their family content gets perturbed since they fail to devote time to their loved ones owing to the regular job without a respite, resulting in the reduction of family time. This entails twisting of relationships, thereby leading to home related stress.

To reiterate, despite some negligible negative aspects for the store staff, the round the clock availability of merchandise extends numerous benefits to shoppers, employees and society in the form of convenience,  effectiveness and amelioration of the financial health of many.

Air travel is cheap these days, allowing ordinary people to travel further. Some people say that airfare should be increased because this leads to environmental problems. Do you think raising airfare can help reduce air pollution?

Nowadays, people belonging to all socio-economic strata have started travelling across the globe for numerous purposes by air owing to the inexpensive tickets which is affecting the environment adversely. There is a lobby that believes emerging air pollution can be addressed by increasing the airfares. This essay will justify the rationale behind their perspective and discuss that of others.

Many have hailed the proposal of raising the air ticket prices for curbing the ecological disaster prevailing in the society. Since people would not be able to afford the phenomenal prices of air travel for fear of tumbling their budgets, and by going beyond their financial feasibility, entailing a decrease in the number of passengers, thereby minimizing the colossal amounts of air pollution, by virtue of reduction in the number of flights.

However, there are many detractors of the idea of creating an upsurge in the prices. As per them, hike in the prices of air tickets would be of little avail since a major chunk of travellers, especially affluent ones would continue to travel as air transport helps them to save the most imperative commodity which is time. Moreover, in the contemporary era, most are using air travel to negotiate extremely long distances: undertaking overseas or journeys to distant locals, which cannot be substituted; thus, barring a few, most will continue flying. Additionally, this lobby also asserts that such a move will do little to reduce pollution but simply shift it from one mode to the other. Those who can ill-afford air travel will be using surface transport, thereby causing pollution elsewhere.

To reiterate, the idea of raising the airfare would not bring in any improvement in the situation of deteriorating environmental conditions since people would persist to travel by airplanes owing to its time-effectiveness.

Nowadays the most important task is the environmental protection of our planet for future generations. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Nowadays the most important task is the environmental protection of our planet for future generations

The contemporary public discourse is aligned with the view that prioritises preserving the planet for the succeeding generations. Several politicians and environmentalists endure this opinion though some are quite cynical about this concern and term it ridiculous.

The dizzying speed at which the natural resources are being exploited, many have started feeling that the day is not far when the habitants of this planet will become bereft of naturally occurring minerals, rendering perpetuation of development in the future impossible, making things extremely burdensome for those who will populate this planet in the time to come. This makes it imperative for the current generation to take steps  now before it is too late, which may force the future inhabitants to suffer and survive in extremely harsh conditions.

Moreover, the environmental pollution is already at alarming levels, and many fear that the situations will exacerbate, and the planet will become inhospitable, if nothing is done right away. There is a good chance that the upcoming generations  will have to struggle to breathe clean air, and find clean drinking water, the basic necessities of life. Thus, it is highly desirable to put the things in order for the sake of the children.

However, a lobby of skeptical strongly feels that every generation has faced its own set of challenges, and has found ways to surmount those. Hence, the current generation should focus on their own stumbling blocks and continue development, only accelerating it will create venues and mechanisms to not only address the current set of problems but also find ways to support the future.

Overall, controversies apart, I completely concur with the statement and feel preserving the environment for the next generation is a task of paramount importance. Since the damage being done  may be irreversible later.

Cycling has many benefits, yet in some countries there is a decrease in the number of people using bicycles as their main form of transportation. Why is it happening? Give suggestions how to encourage people to use bicycles again.

Cycling has many benefits, yet in some countries there is a decrease in the number of people using bicycles as their main form of transportation. Why is it happening? Give suggestions how to encourage people to use bicycles again.

It has often been observed that in several countries, the utilisation of active travel has plummeted tremendously and people have started relying on other means of transport by shelving the advantages associated with cycling. This essay will find out the reasons behind this new phenomenon and suggest some solutions to surmount this problem.

The idea of abandoning cycling as the main form of transportation can be attributed to numerous factors. The mushrooming population of some countries has engendered a rise in traffic volume entailing colossal amounts of pollution due to which commuters are bereft of the appropriate space, and they do not want to forego their safety by pedaling on congested roads enveloped in contaminated air, thereby deploying active travel in their regular regime has become a thing of the past.

Furthermore, urbanisation has brought along a spike in traffic snarls, and the utilisation of bikes make it difficult for people to reach their destinations on time, by virtue of which they fail to accomplish their personal and professional endeavours. Similarly, with the changing times, the lifestyles are also changing owing to which many have started enjoying more outings with their nears and dears, and bicycles fall short of rendering an opportunity to the former to spend the lighter moments with the latter by travelling together.

However, the panacea for this predicament can be found by the efforts of the policy makers since they are equipped with the resources, they should take initiatives, like building separate lanes for cyclists to afford them space and safety on roads, which would help create inclination among enthusiasts to ride this humble mode again. Moreover, the state should create awareness campaigns to enlighten the masses about the health benefits of riding a bicycle by organising cycling drives.

Overall, it is true that this 19th century invention is losing its shine and popularity, it can be made a common sight on the roads once again provided governments take the imperative measures by framing policies to render the surroundings to the inhabitants exempted from ecological disaster.

Technology, it is believed by some, has created more problems than it has solved. To what extent do you agree with this opinion?

The advent of technology has revolutionised all spheres of lives. However, there is a lobby that believes its emergence has done more harm than good. This essay will justify the rationale behind their perspective and discuss that of others.

Many are in favour of the claim. Technology has turned people into its slaves since they prefer to remain glued to the latest innovations for hours by relinquishing all their social connections. Besides this, it pushes them to lead a sedentary lifestyle which makes them vulnerable to a plethora of health issues such as obesity, weakening of eyesight, back pains, and many more.

However, there are those who outrightly reject this perception. As per them, technology has enabled the world to evolve into a global village by exposing the global citizens to a wide array of opportunities in the field of education, business, entertainment, and so on, across the length and breadth of the globe rather than being confined to their political and geographical boundaries. Moreover, this advancement has engendered more interactions across the globe by curbing possibilities of conflicts as well as disparities, thereby fostering bonhomie by establishing harmonious relationships among people.

Furthermore, due to the technological intervention, people are no longer required to engage themselves in the tedious and repetitive procedure at workplace; consequently, saving the most precious commodity, that is time, which can be further utilised for other imperative functions where the staff could augment productivity and efficiency; thus, boosting the economies.

To reiterate, I hardly subscribe to such a notion, since despite having some negative aspects of the integration of technology in the lives of the people, its positive aspects prevail since it has prompted numerous opportunities, has mitigated the discrepancies around the world, and has strengthened the economies.

Compare the advantages and disadvantages of three of the following ways of learning a foreign language. State which you consider to be the most effective.

-   studying on your own

-   taking lessons with a private tutor

-   taking lessons as part of a class

-   taking lessons online

-   going to live in a country where the language is spoken

In the contemporary era, due to the globalisation people are more inclined towards learning foreign languages for umpteen reasons such as education, employment and business. This essay will discuss the merits and drawbacks of three methods: formal classroom sessions, online learning and traveling overseas, of imbibing an overseas tongue.

Attending formal foreign language classes renders an opportunity to learners to grasp a new language through interactive and fun activities with their peers and help them to clarify doubts involved easily, owing to the physical presence of the tutors under the same roof, thereby escalating their comprehension. However, classroom language sessions are quite expensive which often push people to spend beyond their financial feasibility to afford the tuition fees and to purchase study material.

Learning foreign languages by dwelling in countries where they are spoken exposes the students to cultures and traditions associated with tongue, aiding them in grasping linguistic skills effectively since dialects are closely entwined with the ethnicities hailing from the area. Moreover, they obtain an unprecedented experience by interacting with the natives which would help them assimilating and instilling the accent in themselves swiftly. Nevertheless, such an arrangement can only last for short durations due to which people find it quite demanding to adapt to alien surroundings, and barring a few, some encounter cultural shock.

The Internet driven online classes have become a buzzword, by virtue of numerous parameters such as flexibility, cost-effectiveness and also, saving the most imperative commodity that is time, being wasted in commuting. Nevertheless, pupils fail to concentrate in online tuition due to the lack of discipline as they are not under the constant vigil of teachers, consequently, leading to the distortions in the foundation.

Overall, I feel despite certain failings, online language courses can be extremely productive for foreign language learners, and if they pursue their objectives with devotion, they can derive unprecedented benefits, in terms of speedy learning and also exhaustive knowhow.

Some people believe that in a city cars should be used, whereas others believe that bicycles are better than cars for travelling in a city. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

There is a lobby that believes people should use cars in the metropolitan areas. However, there are a few voices of dissent suggesting that cars can cause more harm than good so they should be substituted with bicycles. This essay will discuss both the views and share a logical conclusion.

Many have hailed the proposal of utilisation of cars in urbanised locations owing to several parameters. Such vehicles enable the commuters to save the most imperative commodity which is time. Since nowadays, people in urbanised locations have overburdened themselves with professional engagements which leaves little time with them to devote to their families, and if they go for other means of transit system, it will exacerbate the situation. Moreover, this mode of transport renders an opportunity to the individuals to spend lighter moments with their nears and dears while travelling together and fostering a plethora of memories to cherish.

However, there are those who outrightly reject this inclination. As per them, riding bicycles results in saving the natural resources for the future generation by mitigating the devastating impact on the environment by virtue of fossil fuels which expands the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere on combustion, and in cities there are consumption and pollution galore due to these vehicles. In the contemporary era, people in urban centres are leading sedentary lifestyles which makes them vulnerable to a plethora of diseases such as obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular problems, and so on, deploying active travel in the regular routine can help travellers to incorporate some kind of exercise in their lives which will keep them fit, healthy and active.

To reiterate, after assessing both the views, I strongly feel that the motor vehicle can be substituted by active travel since it would help in safeguarding the environment by alleviating the level of ecological disasters and milking of resources, and preserving them for future generations.

In most developed countries shopping is not only about buying the goods you need, it is also perceived as entertainment. Is it a positive or negative development? Give your own opinion and examples based on your experience.

There is a lobby that believes nowadays, people in the developed nations are more inclined towards shopping since they consider this activity as leisure time engagement rather than simply purchasing necessities. This essay will justify the rationale behind their perspective and find out whether this is a favourable or unfavourable evolution.

In the contemporary era, people are engrossed in their gruelling work regimes intensively, so undertaking such activity helps them to break the mundane by escaping their monotonous schedules and mitigating the stress involved. This enables them to derive pleasure by spending time with their nears and dears, and fostering moments to cherish, which assists them in rejuvenating themselves as well as keep their scheduled tasks interesting. Besides this, such practice allows them to experience excitement, generally missing from the life of those leading a cloistered life, saving them from falling prey to mental disorders like depression.

However, there are many detractors to this evolution. As per them, this new human propensity engenders a spike in consumerist behaviour prevailing in the society since shoppers have started indulging themselves in buying unnecessary goods in order to amuse themselves, which sometimes pushes them to spend beyond their budgets, thereby ending up landing in a financial crisis. Furthermore, this tendency fuels the use and throw culture leading to the social wastage, which affects the environment adversely owing to the pollution emitted by the industries which churn out products in colossal amounts to satiate the growing needs of the consumers.

To reiterate, I strongly feel that despite some positive aspects of integrating shopping into lifestyles for entertainment and relaxation, the negative aspects of this development prevail since this tendency entails tumbling of budgets of the buyers and distorts the ecological balance.
