There is a lobby that believes nowadays, people in the developed nations are more inclined towards shopping since they consider this activity as leisure time engagement rather than simply purchasing necessities. This essay will justify the rationale behind their perspective and find out whether this is a favourable or unfavourable evolution.

In the contemporary era, people are engrossed in their gruelling work regimes intensively, so undertaking such activity helps them to break the mundane by escaping their monotonous schedules and mitigating the stress involved. This enables them to derive pleasure by spending time with their nears and dears, and fostering moments to cherish, which assists them in rejuvenating themselves as well as keep their scheduled tasks interesting. Besides this, such practice allows them to experience excitement, generally missing from the life of those leading a cloistered life, saving them from falling prey to mental disorders like depression.

However, there are many detractors to this evolution. As per them, this new human propensity engenders a spike in consumerist behaviour prevailing in the society since shoppers have started indulging themselves in buying unnecessary goods in order to amuse themselves, which sometimes pushes them to spend beyond their budgets, thereby ending up landing in a financial crisis. Furthermore, this tendency fuels the use and throw culture leading to the social wastage, which affects the environment adversely owing to the pollution emitted by the industries which churn out products in colossal amounts to satiate the growing needs of the consumers.

To reiterate, I strongly feel that despite some positive aspects of integrating shopping into lifestyles for entertainment and relaxation, the negative aspects of this development prevail since this tendency entails tumbling of budgets of the buyers and distorts the ecological balance.
